2018 Combine

Yeah, Hubbard should appeal to us with the Schiano connection. I like Lewis the best of the Ohio State guys, but he may be a bit linear. Hubbard can sustain his speed and movement.

Ceiling for Griffen? Bruce Irvin. His speed of the edge is simply too much for a lot of tackles to handle consistently. They might keep up okay, but one miscalculation, and he's getting a free shot at the QB. He's incredibly explosive.

A Bruce Irvin that can drop? How high do you think he ends up going? I wonder if there'll be an emotional element to where he gets picked. And whilst I like the guy, NFL Network are going to be really tedious about him on draft night.

Fatukasi quitely put up an extremely impressive combine for his size:

6' 4"
318 lbs
34 1/8”
10 1/4”

40 Yard Dash 5.29
Bench Press 33.0
Vertical Jump 30.0
Broad Jump 112.0 (9'4)
3 Cone Drill 7.44
20 Yd Shuttle 4.53

I love Griffin's story. It's great that he's overcome so much. But . . . inspiring stories should be left to stand on their own. Overexposure just leads to fatigue.

He's not as big as Irvin, but their rush ability is similar. He's a valuable player if teams can get past the lack of a hand. I'm honestly not sure he'll be drafted, but I do think he'll make a team and be an overall net positive as a contributor.

For what it's worth:

Good grief! I just watched Griffin for the first time against Auburn (the first tape I watched). It was one of the most dominant tapes I've ever seen. And despite all the sacks, tfls and hurries, the best play of his I saw was a block on an interception. His acceleration is lightning quick. The Pats always seem to have a problem with mobile QBs on 3rd down or RB draws. Not with Griffin in the lineup.

Combine Notes: Day 5 | Draft Analyst

- Despite his long injury history, Florida State defensive end Josh Sweat has not been given any failing medical grades at combine exams. Sweat has well-documented knee issues which go back several years, but I’ve been informed he’s been stamped with a middle-of-the-road medical grade, which is not a major red flag.

That is huge for him. Really intrigued now -- he's potentially another Clowney (not a top sack guy, but a hugely talented athlete with the ability to line up all over the place and just cause havoc for multiple blocking schemes).

The one thing that worries me the most about Sam Hubbard, is his sack numbers.

Aside from size (240lbs plus), I don't think there is a specific athletic requirement at LB. Elandon Roberts had a 7.23, 3c, Collins a 7.10, Hightower didn't run the 3cone.

Great, thanks for the comparisons. So the Evans' 3c was very impressive, relatively speaking. Actually I think 6.95 is pretty good for a slot WR!

But I did quickly compare Evans' BJ & VJ to Lorenzo Carter and Carter smoked him.

Bear in mind that he's recovering from a groin injury.

I've been on the Burks bandwagon for a while due to his versatility and experience in space (played FS, SS, LB, and the actual Star at Vandy). You're welcome to join. He's our next Star. Book it. :)

I can't find any film on youtube except for a piece about him and his character which seems top notch. It might also be a bit of a red flag - he's clearly someone who cares about his community which might be fine or it might take his focus away from football (not saying it will though).

The thing I do like though is his eloquence and intelligence - it's something I've talked about before, but when you see a lot of Patriots interviewed, they have those characteristics - McCourty, Harmon and Slater come immediately to mind and he certainly matches up there. Would like to see some tape though. Reid and Burks would add some leadership to the defense for the next generation of Patriots though.

You have to watch full games. Search Vanderbilt, and you can scrub through a few hours of film to find only their defensive snaps. It might take 30+ minutes to watch his 10 minutes of plays, but it's the best way to get a feel for the player.

Here's a gif I cut from one of his games for your viewing pleasure. (EDIT: He's covering the wheel routes, since it's not obvious.)

I really struggle for time right now so I like the shorter cut ups. I'll take your word for it - your work here has been great. I liked his ability to flip and turn on that gif.

Yeah, I just wanted to highlight his movement ability. He's really good in space. Warner is another guy who looks like a corner at times. Turay is also super smooth in coverage. Too bad he tweaked his hammy. That's always been the knock on him, though. Nicked up a lot.

I started a Gif thread recently. I'll try to populate it with clips more frequently, for people who don't have as much time to kill (although my boss probably wishes I did less on the draft and more on my job when I'm in the office).
