Matt Patricia likely to take Lions or Giants HC job (UPDATE)

3. Matthew Stafford
If Stafford ever had a coach who was worth a damn, he might be a very different QB. He can certainly make all the throws.

Giants have an aging QB and will draft an unknown at QB. Lions have an elite QB and great RB. Why MP would prefer the Jints is a little curious.

He's the reason they're in the holes they are in. People always talk about how good Stafford is making comebacks, against teams that end the season with a losing record, but he's not making them against teams that end the season with winning record. It's Stafford.

If Patricia is wise, he'd stay the **** away from Stafford. Bob Quinn obviously doesn't get it.

Patricia has a better chance with lucky horseshoe up his ass E-LIE. Yeah I know. That is completely ****ing nuts! But it's true!

And he's never had a decent coach.

I dunno know about Stafford. I can't figure him out.

I don't think he can "carry" a team but I think hes a decent Qb with a ton of talent. Seems like a gamer, plays hard and plays hurt.

I think he needs a running game to take the pressure off and a solid defense.

He might be salvageable with a really, really good coach.

Apologies if this has been posted.

Landon Collins doesn't seem interested in winning

I'm not high on Stafford. But I looked up the 2017 Lions their 2 leading rushers:

Abdullah 552 yards 3.3y/a
Riddick 286 yards 3.4y/a

Defense 21st points allowed, 27th yards allowed

Record: 9-7

Clearly they aren't winning based on their defense or running game. So maybe Stafford is "carrying" them.

The bigger concern to me is I wouldn't want to be in the same division as Rodgers.

Stafford's a (very) poor man's Marino.

I would say the Lions is the better job by a mile. The locker room seems fine, Stafford has to be top 10 in the league and they have a lot of nice pieces overall. Patricia seems like a good fit for them... he can rely on someone else to worry more about maintaining the offense while he fixes the defense. Green Bay looks like they’re on a downward trend and Chicago is starting over too. Minnesota is great this year but it’s too early to tell if that’s necessarily a trend or not.

Meanwhile the Giants are a mess with a QB who is past his prime and a very screwy locker room. Can’t even say NY has better job security because it’s not like the previous HC got much security...

Downside to Detroit is obviously that he has to live in/near Detroit.

I think McDaniels goes to Indy and Patricia to the lions.

I think he does dumb things at key times

I think it’s a big mistake especially in the long run for a HC to come in and leave it to someone else to run the offense while they worry about the defense.

That’s not what a HC is. Being a lead coordinator puts to much of your responsibility in someone else’s hands. Matty P needs to implement HIS offense and HIS defense, not coach the defense and let someone else run half his team.

This is another reason belichick is do successful. While he coached the defensive side of the ball as an assistant he is in charge of everything as HC.
When Tom Brady suddenly became the QB in his second year, who coached him? Bill Belichick did.

That’s my take on stafford. He can make a lot of nice throws and he can puke up stats but dies his play translate to winning? Does he make the 5-6 critical plays that a championship caliber qb makes in games, particularly big games. I don’t think stafford does. He may be jay cutler with a friendlier personality.
