ESPN hitpiece on Patriots (Rift with Brady/Belichick/Kraft) - Merged

Who cares? Is Tom not going to play his best because he has problems with BB or vice versa? Just meaningless noise.

I don't think there is actually anything between Tom and BB. I could see something between Kraft and BB though. Bill maybe wanting to Keep JG and Kraft saying No. That would make sense. It's just not in Brady's make up to challenge BB in that way.

If I am Bill I am looking at the reported Gruden deal and scratching my head.
Why? Do you know what Bill makes? He's given him total control of the roster, he just said as much about a month ago.

The fly in the reportage ointment....

"Belichick just said, 'What did you just ask me?" Glazer reported. "[Lynch] said, 'I'm asking if you'd trade us Tom Brady. You said Garoppolo is off-limits. [Belichick] said, 'Did you just ask me if I'd trade Tom Brady? Did you just ask if I'd trade the greatest quarterback of all-time? And John said, 'So is that a no?'"

What is Lynch's response to Glazer's report?

"Is that true? Absolutely, it's true," Lynch said. "And it happened after – I'll preface it – when I asked Bill about the availability of Jimmy Garoppolo (and) was quickly rebuffed. I kind of said it in jest but some seriousness, 'Ok, if Jimmy's not available, how about Tom?' And he kind of spit up through the phone. That's the reality of what happened."

John Lynch discusses Garoppolo trade rumors, asking Belichick about Tom Brady

The reported exchange between BB and Lynch contradicts anything Jimmy G related that is claimed about TB. Which would then rule out any intervention by Kraft as well. The only possible 'disagreement' would be Guerrero's involvement with TB, but otherwise as usual when we approach SB time yet another BSPN-led 'controversy' surfaces. Rinse, repeat.

Looks like the upcoming ESPN piece is shaking some things loose as the local media wants to get out things they've known before being scooped by ESPN. Here's Curran:

How to process ESPN piece on Pats 'dysfunction'

"I was told more than once that Robert Kraft did tell Bill Belichick that he wasn’t allowed to trade or release Tom Brady. However, I was also told that if Belichick had brought it up, he would have been discouraged from doing so. So either the conversation never happened and Belichick knew which way the wind was blowing and moved Garoppolo. Or the conversation did happen and I’m being misled. Third option, the one nobody gives any credence to? The Patriots couldn’t figure a way to work it out. In his press conference after trading Garoppolo, Belichick said, “It’s just not sustainable given the way that things are set up. It’s definitely not something we wanted to walk away from and I felt like we rose it out as long as we could. We over a period of time explored every option possible to sustain it but just at this point felt like we had to make a decision. It’s a very complex situation on multiple levels and this is really the last window we had.”

That last bit – “a very complex situation on multiple levels” – I’m taking that as Belichick’s acknowledgment of the Brady Conundrum. You have the best quarterback in league history playing at an MVP level and he – more than any other player – has ensured your place in the American sports pantheon (as you did for him). And he’s a regional deity. And the owner is sentimental. So you can’t trade him. It’s not like your stuck with Elvis Grbac. It’s Brady.

********

There are people within the Patriots organization who believe Belichick got bigfooted by Kraft on this and are proceeding under the assumption that Belichick may be so miffed at that that he’ll leave. They also believe the Patriots made a mistake gambling that Brady will be able to produce for as long as he thinks he will while moving on from the obviously-gifted Garoppolo."

This is the dumbest **** I’ve read today. Espn is dying and they’ll publish what they can for clicks.
Typical BSPN, keep doing the very thing that is killing you.

And they are struggling, ....why?

Even the average "Pats hater" can see this is "Fluff, yes we hate them too", click bait, watch bait, Whatever...
Reeks of desperation.

.. How abut a segment on how the Ratbirds lost, and why they never found the white suit?

Maybe more interest?

Surprised these quotes never made it out there given the age of that article. Great find by you

Yeah, it's just irresponsible journalism not to deal with that report. A lot of reporters could use some self-scouting.

I just received the news over the wire not one minute ago. Scurrilous tripe.

If you saw the numbers on the NFL, and how big its decline has been in the past 2 years, you can get a big chunk of the "why" picture.

NFL television ratings fell 9.7 percent during the 2017 regular season, according to numbers registered by Nielsen.

A typical game was watched by 1.6 million fewer people this season as compared to last season (14.9 million versus 16.5 million).

The drop comes after the NFL had hoped to stem an 8 percent ratings slide from last season by experimenting with the format for television commercials and trying to speed up the game.

TV ratings for NFL down 9.7 percent during '17

That is a 16.8% viewership decline in two years. The NBA, meanwhile, is up 20% this year, so "It's happening across the board" doesn't really really hold water. ESPN's biggest sports draw is in trouble, and ESPN is paying part of the price for that.
