Central Thread For Mourning/Canonizing Jimmy Garoppolo

I am in the "they should have traded him during the draft, because they need talent to help Brady win now"

They have gained nothing by holding onto him and have lost out on value in terms of this season and probably next season.

Imagine if they drafted another pass rusher, a DB or a TE. Any of those positions could have been upgraded.

I agree. I felt that originally because I know TB wasn't going anywhere and I think all assets should be on the field i.e. Dorsett>Brisett even if Dorsett is just a decoy.

There is value in having a great backup. I cant argue that. But putting that aside maybe the Pats wanted to see if they could keep both. Negotiations were at a standstill. Obviously if they could have gotten this figured out by the draft and gotten a blue chip pick in return they could have had an elite player.

Regardless, of any of that, I am interested in Brady so I am not sure what the complainer's issues are since Brady isnt showing any slowdown in his game and JG should have a shot to start.

Maybe Jimmy will get tired of Jed York in 3/4 seasons time like most coaches and players for the 49ers do and come back home after TB12 pushes us ahead of the Steelers. TB12 becomes the Rocky to Jimmy's Adonis Johnson.

I have been saying that since the trade. Do JG a solid and put him in a great position to learn. He can come back in 3-4 years with 3-4 years of NFL experience he wouldn't have gotten here.

Part of the fun is wondering what could have been. Why not wonder if the right move was made? People do that all the time. Why do we have to be passive?

I do get it but I don't see the value in it.

Just because Jimmy is doing well in SF that does not mean he would do well here or vice versa.

I like Jimmy a ton but I just don't feel the need for this board to open threads about him. He's gone.

and why would he do that? by that time, he'll be winning wherever he is.......this place was just a stop on the trip.....he'll make his own legacy somewhere else

It's not completely impossible. I wish him the best though.

The only reason you are here is to talk about Jimmy. Right james87654 (previously banned)

Troll, You have the "I have no friends and have never spoken to a woman" factor
why are you so hostile and angry?

im sorry if i make you feel that way

Hi, im fairly new to Footbal (soccer as you call it) been following pats for two years now. Living in Yorkshire, England the Patriots are my nearest team by mileage.

Anyway, could we have not offered J Garoppolo say 5mil a year just to be a back up for a year, With the salcap going up by about 8 mil next year we could afford it. Or was he unhappy at not playing ?

From the sounds of it, he didn't want to be a back-up anymore and the cost of franchising him would have handicapped the team. It was a bit of a sticky wicket if you catch my drift.

Yeah, my understanding is that he simply didn't want to be a backup anymore. So it was either move Brady, or move Jimmy G.

There would be no reason for him to accept that. He was going to be a free agent and would have had offers for both a lot more money and a starting job. He would have lost in every way by agreeing to that.

i know he could have got more money but being offered say 5-8mil next year and then 20+ years after . Surley would rather be in the pats winning team than the 49ers. Just a thought. I would rather of kept Jimmy but i assume Kraft told bill to trade jimmy and not tom.
Tom is starting to look a bit wooden and i HOPE its his tendon injury

We call it football. Soccer is the sport where no one uses their hands and 2 goals in 2 hours is a ridiculously high score.

Garoppolo will be getting $20+ million a year in his next deal, whether via a long term deal, or a franchise tag (which is a 1 year deal).

Tom's Achilles according to Jeff Howe has cleared up over the last week so that is not a concern.

And I'm not sure about wooden. These facts say otherwise.

Can't be very wooden leading the NFL in most passing categories.

Good work by Kontradiction outing K-Dog. Holy crap, if you post that much on so many NFL boards, I am worried about your state of mental health.

And maybe this thread should be merged with the other Jimmy G thread or at least moved to the NFL forum.

That said, I want to make this point: you can debate the trade all you want, but I feel that any success Jimmy G has reflects positively on Brady. You can see Brady in everything Jimmy G does in that clip in the OP. If Garoppolo had been drafted by any other team, he wouldn't have the success that he's having right now and might have in the future. He studied and learned under the GOAT. His success will be part of Brady's legacy, and as a strong investor in Brady, I'll be rooting for him on the 49ers. I'll be making this point again on here, I'm sure.

its just his movement over the past month, he looks like he cant bend his legs. Granted he has never had a good set of wheels on him but in my opinion his movement looks his age but his arm seems as good as ever
