Ben Roethlisberger: Not Fair

No you said it was a rule change.
The rule was in effect before this year.

I said modified the rule which means they are now enforcing it.

What does "emphasis" mean to you? To me, it means that there was a purposely ambiguous rule but they never enforced it because it was a BS political move and they couldn't call it properly and are now experimenting (and failing).

I am now in the camp that JSS should not have been suspended, only because this does not provide the Murderer-Worshippers the opportunity to cripple him for the rest of the season.

Seriously?
A rule change is when the add or alter (modify) a rule by changing its definition it parameters.

Point of emphasis is an EXISTING rule that they are instructing refs to do a better job of recognizing and calling.

Jujus hit was not a penalty under the rule with it without emphasis.
The rule he violated was the one that says if you hit someone too hard people will think the game is too violent so for PR reasons we are going to punish you even though you didn’t break any rules.

You are taking how this league operates literally. They operate in a way that is anything but to the letter of the law.

Sorry but a rule is not a rule unless there is a penalty which enforces it. Especially with this ******** league.

"Emphasis" is another way of saying, 'We will now enforce a rule that we never enforced'.

It a big crock of poop- just like the Ju Ju penalty

No, no, no.
Saying we want referees to focus MORE on certain penalties does not mean they weren’t penalties before or were never called.
Here is the list of points of emphasis.

Obviously we know the other 3 have all been called for years (just as the one we are discussing has)
What the nfl is saying is that they think these are the penalties the refs most often missed and should put extra attention to.

First you said it was a rule change. Then you said it was a modification. Then you came up with some kind of conspiracy theory that the nfl makes rules they don’t want to enforce.

Why not just admit you thought it was a new rule but were mistaken? It’s a whole lot easier than moving the goalposts in a different direction with every post.

Go back and read my first post. Rule modification = now they decide to enforce it because the game got out of hand because the officials have no idea what to do because there is a total lack of leadership and clear direction from the league office.

I read the NFL Rules and the rules - in my opinion are discretionary. See PA calls, the **** Gronk has been going through with OPI. Ball inflation, stick-ums, taping signals, player misconduct. Its all arbitrary and inconsistent. It is a sham and all the league is interested in doing is leaving enough wiggle room for itself to set the narrative, control the players and win the PR war.

I've already stated that I think the Rules and Points of Emphasis are horse ****.

Yes- it is a conspiracy just like concussions. They put in a rule to pander to the public with absolutely no intention of enforcing it until they have to. The whole doctor spotting players with concussions is also horse ****.

Not directed at you personally as you are just debating the points and my position like we always do and thats cool but I'm done with this topic. The leadership of this league is an inept, evil cancer. They are a bunch of manipulative doochbags

We have GIFs available. Said GIFs will loop a video over and over and over again to infinity. The Sun will enter its red giant phase and said GIF will still be looping over and over and over again. How, when we have such things available, can anyone in their right mind look at it and come up with a completely wrong conclusion?

The helmet to helmet contact is clearly incidental. There is clearly no intent to go high and to the head. He is clearly leading with his shoulder. These things are clear. Watch the GIF again. Watch it again if you need to. It's a big hit. A big block. Nothing more than that. The suspension is a joke. For those of you that need more convincing, here is a still frame...

Case closed. We may not like Ben but he's right in this case. JuJu got suspended for a completely legal hit and the Steelers should be in an uproar about it.

Odd that there are so many dislikes to this statement.

While he did taunt, a 15 yard penalty typically suffices for that (not a suspension).

There are too many sensitive people on this board. If a player hits another player with a helmet, whether by accident or not, they should be suspended.

JSS was trying to make a football play. Gronk was not.

That was my understanding as well, but many here had me starting to think otherwise.
Helmet to helmet is only illegal on a defenseless player. (Spearing is different of course)
One of the definitions of defenseless player is if you BLINDSIDE block a defender while moving parallel or toward your own goal line.

Burfict wasn’t blindsided as jujus right shoulder hit burfict in the 5, his left chest area, which is almost exactly head on.
Juju isn’t responsble for burfict to pay attention to what’s in front of him.

The suspensions were pretty clearly the result of that game spiraling out of control yet again. These clowns have no one to blame but themselves: if you don't want the NFL to come down with over-the-top punishments, don't let the game get to that point in the first place. If either one of Lewis or Tomlin would stop being a "player's coach" for long enough to install some discipline in his team, you wouldn't have multiple flagrant headshots per game and the league wouldn't have to crack down just to send a message.

So cry me a river, Ben - maybe if he spent a little more time being a leader and telling his teammates to cut the ****, and a little less time whining to the media, his team wouldn't be in this predicament in the first place.

Its just crazy how much the game has changed we used to get stars on our helmets in HS and college for hits like these. Not saying that was right, especially with all the data points on head injuries but this would have gotten and Ataboy from your coach in the late 80s.

I think it was boderline but the standing over him selaed the deal on the suspension staying.

I wonder if he, or maybe his parents, really likes Jujubees?
