Eli Manning: An end of an era....

I suppose that Goober (or is it Gomer?) could be a caretaker for a season or two while his drafted QB of the Future learns the pro game; but if Jimmy G becomes a UFA then Coughlin would be remiss not to make a very, very serious push for him. He'll have whatever cap space he needs to git'er done.
I wouldn't go the Jimmy route either if I was the Jags. I like Jimmy, but he is a bit of an unproven commodity that's high risk, though very high reward.

Jacksonville needs a safe QB pickup that is proven, but not on the verge of deteriorating.

That would be Cousins.

Safe doesn’t win. Cousins is what he is. That may welll be more than jimmy g is but Jax isn’t winning a SB with cousins.

Jaguars with Cousins sounds like a dangerous team.
Jaguars current roster with Cousins is the direct competition for the AFC. They would have a short window, though, since they would have to back up the Brinks truck for him while dealing with the impending Ramsey contract (who is now easily the best CB in the entire league).

Had to delete my post which pretty much parroted yours without the additional detail.

Desperate move by a clueless coach.

If Giants ownership were a classy as everyone claims they would veto this move and fire the clown coach, how do you bench a 2 x Super Bowl winning QB for Geno Smith?

That 2 x Super Bowl winning QB has been a QB in decline for a couple of years. It's time for the Giants to move on, and this way likely increases the chances of the team getting a top draft pick.

Or, in other words,

"Bench Eli" is not "Trade Brady!".

Eli Manning started 210 straight games.
Tom Brady has 217 WINS.

Eli Manning has won at least one playoff game in a season 2 times.
Tom Brady has won at least one playoff game in a season 12 times.

Think about that: a “Hall of Fame” quarterback has won at least one playoff game TWICE in FOURTEEN seasons.

Luckiest SOB on the planet. He’s a .500 quarterback who got hot twice, and even those runs were not historical individually. If he’s in the Hall, they need a second, better Hall for deserving players.

His two SB MVPs are enough...he gets those accolades. Putting him in the Hall is just double dipping.

If 2 superbowl wins and a mediocre/good regular season career gets you into the HOF, then make way for David Givens and Dion Branch.

Eli Manning was a good but not great QB who was part of a team that made it to 2 superbowls and won. He was NEVER the key factor (other than happening to be playing the QB position) on either of those teams. IMHO, other than the great throw he made to Maningham (who made a great catch) in the 2011 Superbowl, Manning did nothing in either of those 2 superbowl games to distinguish himself as a GREAT player.

Maybe they need to change the name of that Canton Museum into the Hall of Great Individual Stats. Because that is the only way Eli Manning should get into the HOF. BTW- I have always liked Eli a LOT better than his brother. He has had a very good NFL career and was a very good QB. Just not close to being a GREAT one. (sorta like Kurt Warner.)

BTW- its the lack of stats that is going to keep Richard Seymour out of the HOF for a long while. Like a guy like Vince, he played in a defense for his prime years, that didn't ask their DL to create "stats". Despite the fact that Seymour was a dominant DLman at several positions during his prime years with the Pats (2001-7), I think he's going to have to be happy with his 3 rings instead of one Gold Jacket.

Edit: I didn't know about Eli's benching until AFTER I wrote this post.

I admit to being a homer. I feel in general it is hard for defensive linemen to get in, those of us that saw Seymour and Wilfork each week know how good they were, but others wouldn't. However, I really don't see how anyone could say that Eli Manning should get in but Randy Moss (really?) is not a lock. Ty Law has been nominated 4 times and still isn't in. If Peyton Manning gets in, then Ty - who had his number - has to get in.

If I’m the Jags, I take him. Eli is declining but he’s still better than Bortles and you can maybe squeeze a competitive season out of him. I would also draft Mayfield were he to fall in the draft. Dude is a bigmouth, but he’s not the next Manziel.

No, I think 2 SBs, plus the Manning name, plus the job location will get him in.

And I think it's an interesting debate as to whether or not the 2 SB wins should be enough to bring up an otherwise mediocre career to HOF level.
IIRC, Jim Plunkett is the only 2 time Super Bowl champion QB who is eligible who is NOT in the HOF.. He is hurt by starting his career with an awful Pats team even though he ended up 8-2 in the playoffs ( vs 8-4 for Eli with 4 one and dones- as in he only won playoff games in 2 years)

Wow that sucks for Eli and Giants fans. Geno ****ing Smith? Good grief. Unbelievable that Mcadoo still has a job. He shouldn't much longer after this idiocy.
