Bedard raised concern about the TE2 position and its impact on Gronk. He thinks that it's gotten the point where Brady has to get Allen involved in the offense instead of ignoring him. That or they should trade for Jimmy Graham.

I'm inclined to agree. Gronk's health is absolutely imperative. There are two guys whose loss would kill our season and that would be Brady and Gronk.

Waste of a roster spot if you can't trust him to do anything because as things stand right now he's not even Gronk insurance because even if Gronk went down he still wouldn't be a factor.

Throw him on the field and throw him some passes or just end the experiment and cut him.

You are wrong buddy. Do u remember when Gronk missed a game and Allen played 60+ snaps. Did you see all those catches he made when we had to really rely upon him? No? I didn't either.

The streak lives! Woot!

One thing with the goose eggs across the board BB don't have to worry about Allen hitting any salary escalators..he's already getting paid too much for what he does.

There must be some sort of NFL record for most snaps played as Tight End in a season without having a catch?

I guess Belichick played him for 20 snaps because he is useless and adds nothing when he is out there. Or, perhaps Belichick doesn't know what he is doing?

Yes, we overpaid for Allen.

Agreed that Allen can't be counted on to be part for the passing offense.

And no, Allen wasn't ready for lots of reps when Gronk was injured. That certainly doesn't mean that he wouldn't get many more reps if the unthinkable happened after the break, and Gronk missed part of a game or a bit more.

I guess folks think that his involvement is critical given that we have the best passing offense in the NFL so far this year (or one of the top 3).

WASTE OF A ROSTER SPOT?
It seems that Belichick doesn't see it the way pats fans posters see it. It would seem that he is worth his roster spot as a blocker. I didn't check the cap consequences of cutting him now, but there is no need. We need a backup blocking TE (backup to Gronk as a blocker). If Gronk were out, his receiving role would go to RB's and WR's.

And as a longshot, our blocking TE will catch a few passes, if and when he can be trusted.

You don't show off your secret weapon in week 5.

Imagine how surprised everyone will be when Allen goes for 100+ yards and 2 TDs in the Super Bowl

It really is incredible.

126 career catches on 205 targets.
19 TDs.
Over 1400 yds receiving
12 yd average.

Last year he had 35 catches, 400yds and 6 Tds.

Its not like hes been a nobody. Hes been a legit TE2 type player. I'd be perfectly content with his stats last year.

Here....nuthin. Zero Nada. Zip. Jack. Squat.

Way to rub it in robert.

I just can't comprehend how he put up any of those numbers.

Dude, what makes you think BB doesn't see it the way the posters see it? Because he doesn't cut him? We already agreed that Allen is better than a JAG off the street. He's already guaranteed the salary for this year. Might as well use him for whatever we can. BB could be just as infuriated with Allen's play as we were but since he's already paid him for the year, might as well put him in as a blocking dummy when possible.

I really hoped that BB would bite the bullet, cut Allen, and activate Will Tye from the practice squad. There is precedent of a sort. Several years ago, BB traded a mid round draft choice for Albert Haynesworth, a talented but troubled DT. Haynesworth didn't last out the season, due mostly to poor on field performance and attitude problems, so BB cut him and took the cap hit. I haven't heard any talk about attitude problems with Allen, but he is definitely not on the same page with Brady and his contribution to the team appears to be minimal at best. Also, heard that the Texans signed Blackmon off the PS. I assume (hope) that BB let him go because Vince Valentine is close to a return in 2017.

Funny how many people fail to get on the same page with Brady. I've said it for years: this offense is needlessly complex. it hinders more than helps. It's not like teams with the right personnel have a hard time slowing it down.
