Brady on pace to get sacked a career-high 52 times

i have noticed that he seems a little stiff and statuesque......not as elusive in the pocket

father time catches up with even the GOAT

What are you assuming is going to change?

I assume nothing. I don't think that Brady can survive 52 sacks. Either the issue will be fixed (which I expect) or Brady is very likely to be injured.

And just BTW, sacks aren't the worst of it. Brady is taking lots and lots of hits, even on successful plays.

You ask what I "assume" will change, as if I need to know what the best coaches in the NFL will do to fix the problem.

Perhaps, Josh needs to change his game plans, perhaps having fewer receivers going out (max protect). Perhaps Scar needs to use his TE's and RB's more as blockers and to pick up the blitz. I don't know or assume. Bill, Josh, and Scar are the best. As of now, the offense is the best in the NFL. I expect that the coaches can maintain almost this level and protect Brady better.

They're going to need to or Brady won't last the season. Can't let a 40 year old absorb the kind of shots he's absorbing. He's as tough as they come, but the body simply doesn't recover like it used to at that age.

Brady is taking more deep shots AND the OL is playing worse. This is a recipe for sacks galore. There are QBs who have survived that kind of sack volume and played well (Aaron Rodgers) but doing it at 40 instead of 26-32 is something else.

Soldier has been below average this year

Thuney has been ok nothing great

Andrews is a liability against certain types of styles

Mason is a beast

Cannon has underperformed this year already given up 4 sacks

Allen is getting paid 6 million dollars to only play 9 snaps per game

Defense has to improve first. This way we can run the ball more when we are up, avoiding sacks and hits on Brady altogether.

Find suitable replacements in the offseason.

Is the OL actually playing worse or is it the lack of Edelman and the increased emphasis on deep stuff that's causing Brady to hold the ball longer that's exposing the OL? I think the OL was never as good as it seemed and its deficiencies were covered up by the NE "throw the ball in 2.35 seconds" offense.

Combination, I think. Solder and Cannon are both playing a whole lot worse than last year, but I agree that losing Edelman and the effect on the quick-hitting offense is huge as well.

I think our o-line has been over rated by many of us during Brady's time here. He covers for them by getting rid of the ball so fast.

In 2007 we gave up 21 sacks. In 2008 when Brady was injured for the year we gave up 48 sacks.

Now with Edelman out and the quick passes not there the o-line is getting exposed. Solder in particular is having a very rough year so far. We've also faced 3 very good D's so it should get better.

There's definitely an element of what you're saying at play, but I'm not sure it's fair to compare 2007 to 2008, because you went from Brady (maybe the best there is at getting the ball out quick and moving inside the pocket), to a QB who hadn't started a game since High School. Cassel had a surprisingly good year that year, but you'd have to think one of the hardest parts of the pro game is processing information and making the right reads quickly. If we had gone from Brady to a QB with average NFL experience and see that kind of jump, I think your case would be stronger.

I have zero faith in this line to get a push for a 4th and 1 for anyone other than a Brady QB sneak.

Don't be so harsh on Marcus Cannon he's battling ankle problems. That turn-style
Nate Solder needs to be replaced he's looked horrible every game.

Yes, good point, there is a massive jump from Brady to Cassell, but my point still stands that Brady has covered for this line for years. The jump went from 21 to 48 sacks given up from 2007 to 2008. That's 27 more sacks! Even if you had an average veteran QB instead of Cassell there'd still be a pretty big differential, not 27 of course, but it still stands that Brady's quick release and putting the O in the right play/alignment helps the o-line immensely.

On pace for 52 sacks isn't the only worry. On pace for getting hit 1,000 times is another story.
