WR Malcolm Mitchell on Injured Reserve

Because he had a decent to good preseason. Made a highlight reel TD catch and was a fun guy to watch. His pro day stats weren't as bad as you seem to think they were. I'm not saying he could have replicated Edelman's production but he could have helped the team imo.

Carr

Edelman
Could have helped the team more than Phillip Dorsett?

BB thinks Dorsett is better than Carr and has better upside which is why he cut Carr and traded for Dorsett

You don't trust in BB?

We got to the AFC championship game in the 2013 season with

Thompkins
Amendola
Collie
Edelman
Dobson

And NO Gronk

And once again...Tom Brady.

It doesn't help that MM will miss half the year but it'll be great if he can come back as an addition later on. By then the new guys (Cooks, Dorsett et al.) will have a half season of chemistry.

Lol at people saying carr has no explosiveness. Landry had no explosiveness and he has turned into one of the best slot wrs in the league. We will see if he ever plays a game. I think the pats felt Dorsett was a better option no doubt.

Victor Cruz's still out there. The salsa man

Did the Chiefs conspire for O'Shaughnessy to be traded to the Pats, solely to injure Malcolm Mitchell, get cut & have Mitchell IR'd the same day we play the Chiefs???????
See what happens when you let Goodell in the house. :'(

Keshawn Martin, Kenbrell Thompkins, Aaron Dobson, and Josh Boyce are all available and all know the system!

Although Dobson had an injury settlement so he might not be fully healthy.....

1. Mitchell had to be on the initial 53 if they want him back this season.
2. They probably waited till now to keep Mitchell part of KC gameplanning.
3. Giving Mitchell more time to heal and having another weapon coming in fresh for the second part of the season doesn't sound so bad.

Having the top IOL backup (and the only C backup) on the roster is not bad either..
That's a whole lot of rationality to dump on folks who were using this for game thread warmup.

So I suppose Dorsett may have been more of a Mitchell replacement than Edelman.

I still think James White will essentially be our 'Edelman replacement'.

Martin is the only one I could see us bringing back. No thanks to the rest of them (and I was a big Dobson fan coming out of college; what a sad bust).

That scenario is actually more plausible than the Steeler conspiracy theory about Blount that Pittsburgh fans still bring up to this day.

I still feel Dorsett will surprise a lot and be a player here. We will see.

Apparently there was a grievance between Martin and the team last year over his initial injury designation. Belichick has shown to be willing to move past such things, but we don't know how Martin feels.

My post was mostly in jest; I agree that Martin is the only one I personally would have liked to see back.

Martin is a JAG no thanks

Austin Carr should be on the team! As soon as Edelman went down, WR depth should have been a priority.
It is. That's why Dorsett was traded for instead of keeping carr

Doubt Martin's phone is ringing off the hook. Can't see him passing on an NFL game day pay check at this point of his career. There's a good chance he never makes a 53 man roster again

I'd be VERY surprised if they didn't suspect Mitchell would break down at some point. He's fragile: just the way he's made. They may well even have suspected he wouldn't make it to the regular season. Some of their moves hint at this.

I'd figure Mitchell might be of use sporadically through his career, for however long it runs. I wouldn't count on him for more than that.

Should've kept Austin Carr, that was a big gamble. Now you go from a guy who knew the offense to a guy who has been on the team 6 days. This is horrendous news. WR went from a strength depthwise to scary thin.
Couldn't agree more Scott ....although Mitchell is different style of receiver than Carr....thought he brought a lot to the field when he got his chances....would have been happy to see him here....

Good post....Carr will be good player in this league.....Brees will get a lot from the kid
