Waddle strikes me as a big somewhat athletic guy whose not enough of either to be a starter, but if he comes in fresh, when the rest of the defenses are a little banged up, he can play for a while at starting level. Fleming reminds me of the big fat kid who is too slow, but learns a few moves and is sneaky athletic enough to get by as a backup.

I don't trust Waddle now, but he might be the better player later on. It was a good idea to keep both until things shake out.

Yes, we should have 4 OT's at all times, especially since one (Fleming) is also used an extra lineman at times. Waddle is a #4 OT who has started (he might even be able to back up LG). That's not bad at all. What IS disappointing is that we used FOUR draft choices for Garcia and McDermott.

Also, with Solder and Vollmer, they had automatic LT backup by shifting someone into RT, even a G/T type. No more. Vollmer's gone.

I had been expecting that too (or maybe a trade), but the folks here talking about him as the only backup with LT properties have me spooked. Let's carry 11 OLs. ;)

Pats currently have 8 OL with no reserve at Center.. The Pats carry 9/10 usually with an additional 1-2 on the PS.

Eric Weems got cut - veteran PR who averaged over 11 yards last season - 6th in the NFL

So did Kerley. I don't expect either of them to be in Pats Uniforms. I think the addition of Dorsett ended them going outside the team unless they trade Dion Lewis. They have 5 WR currently. They have 6 CBs with the addition of Bademosi. It should be noted that Bademosi DID handle some punt return duties in college, mainly fair catches..

Bademosi was an excellent pickup. He is certainly an OK 5th CB, as well as being one of the top Ster's in the league.

Interesting Note:
Last year with the Lions, Bademosi started at CB against the Texans. He was assigned to cover DeAndre Hopkins with Safety help. Hopkins was held to 4 receptions for 44 yards that game.

Lombardi went out of his way to emphasize a few times that Bademosi will be in play as at least CB depth.
Since he is a top STer, he will always be active. So, sure, he'll be depth at corner.
Is he a better option than J Jones? We'll see.

Maybe they are preparing for needing him at LT sometime. Let's face it, Solder might not be long for the team, Vollmers gone. Who are they going to play at LT in case of injury?

I know its not pretty @LT. And its a problem throughout the league. And I love every Pat player for better or for worse. Waddle including. But its hard to understand why keep a guy who's not the answer (they used Fleming over him last year at LT, he hasn't seen a meaningful NFL snap since he came to NE and was inactive all year and had a rough preseason again this yr by most accounts) over a guy who was the only IOL backup answer last year (making Kline, Cooper etc. redundant) and was active all games and started one when he was called and played very solid (Karras)..

They did play Fleming last year @ARI at LT and it was fine. They did play Fleming in dress rehearsal game 2 weeks ago at LT and it was fine. Croston looked better in pass protection than Waddle in preseason games at LT IMO. Waddle is of course bigger, stronger, better in running game. But he is a painful liability in PP. Looks like he can't fully recover from his knee injury.

I can understand they are keeping him as additional safety net in regard to Solder and Garcia. I understand that it is impossible to keep a capable LT backup on PS in this league. Id just like to know why is it so important to keep him besides Fleming and Croston because I can't see a significant drop from Waddle to Croston. And if Waddle is so clearly ahead of Croston at LT then it would seem a bit steep to keep Croston over Karras (and I liked and rooted for Croston from the start). I know there is rationale also here since Croston is a T so probably even he would be claimed sooner than Karras.

We'll see how it plays out but if Karras is claimed by another team it will be disappointing to lose him in such way. The kid put a great effort and impressed everybody playing all IOL positions. He is tough and strong with just the right amount of nasty attitude combined with disciplined playing and behaviour (focus). Can't recall a single penalty call on him..

The thing i can't see and i was wondering about earlier in my outburst is if this means they don't see him as a clever enough player/leader to assume the serious/starting C job if needed (remember Stork..) . so they took the risk of losing him on waivers seeing a predominantly G backup in him and just emergency C (that indeed is a bit easier to find on the street).

It was a bit strange to me that he played so little at C in preseason games and they gave so many snaps to poor Ferentz. First I thought it was because they knew what they have in him at C so they wanted to have a better tryout in painfully undersized Ferentz (has to have a good C IQ besides pedigree to get so many oportunities w his size..) then when Ferentz was run over consistently and the line was breaking on Jimmy it became strange.

Then I remembered some beat guys guessing that Pats wanted to take Elflein at #72 and after he was taken at #70 they took the trade down offer. That certainly could be about Karras..

I dont know. Putting too much thought in this I know. But I love the kid and Im a bit worried how the OL story in unfolding at the moment..

Thought Foster would make it. Lots of solid RBs out there. Carr and Cody should have a solid chance as well. Im more worried about Karras, D.Jones..

It will be interesting to see if they bring a QB though..

I'm not worried at all about either of them. Not when you look at who has been cut/released around the league..

I think if you recognize that croston is not a T (BB has a history of using young players in many different positions in preseason to rule out where they can't play) and that he simply beat out karras it's more clear. Karras was a surprise keep last year who really did almost nothing all season. It's not like he cemented his role as a strong backup who couldn't be beaten out by another guy coming in a year later in the same boat.

Great news for him. Good depth at multiple positions for us.

Some will get their bubble burst soon about how amazing our cut players were when they see that they passed waivers and will be part of the PS. The reality is that every team has those 2-3 binkies that are loved (and overrated) by their fanbase and where there is no way that they make it through waiver unclaimed. It is the same procedure every year.
