Looks like Mitchell won't be ready for Week 1

And Doug Gabriel. I still can't believe they cut him???????

Frigging Belichick, what a dumbass.

I would have liked to see Floyd back..but we are stacked at WR...the need is on the D side of the ball. With TB12 under center...it always is.

From Floyd's perspective it never made sense for him to re-sign with the Patriots once Cooks was in Foxboro. Why sign a non-guaranteed contract in a situation where your only chance of getting even one game check is dependent on another player being injured?

For a player in Floyd's situation it makes far more sense to sign with a team that you have a better chance at actually making the roster. The Pats may have done him a favor by not offering him a contract.

Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce...why were they so awful for high picks

Please NG not those names trying to eat don't want to hurl my food.

I'm not as sold on Mitchell as some. Dobson had more catches in his rookie year and he didn't turn out so well. Now we have an injury issue right off the bat with Mitchell this year.

I'd love to hear all the stories about Dobson's performances in the playoffs, specifically the Super Bowl.

I'll wait.

Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce...why were they so awful for high picks

Hey, Josh Boyce helped the Patriots win a Super Bowl.

He was the guy that torched Malcolm Butler on that Halo play in practice.

Also, Boyce was a 4th rounder. I don't consider that a high pick.

Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce...why were they so awful for high picks

I don't think that Dobson was "awful", just not good enough to compensate for his constant stream of injuries.

Boyce was picked at #102. Not particularly high. Highly athletic, certainly flashed some talent - just a low-effort guy. We saw him at camp practices as a rookie, and it was obvious to both of us that he was dogging it on nearly every rep. I was surprised that he even made the team in 2013. Wasn't surprising at all that he ultimately failed with the Pats.

So many if Belichick's worst picks of all time are those where he couldn't figure out that the player would be injured multiple times, and not become a starter after the injuries (e.g. Dobson and Crable). Shame on Bill!

Also, Bill is so bad the many of this 4th rounders don't end up being starters. Shame on Bill!

This sort of reminds me of the Tyms era or the Thompson era.

except that any moron can tell you that carr is neither tyms nor thompson.........unless one of those 2 came back in a disguise

sure.....and when mitchell and amendola are both banged up....which is a very distinct possibility, then what? carr stands to be more useful than foster.....talk about redundancy

I know ...... lets go grab a vet castoff that we already know won't work

I agree. Those players were more ready for the NFL than Carr is. I'd prefer Lucien to Carr. However, I expect both to make the PS.

Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce...why were they so awful for high picks

I don't know, why were Tom Brady and Julian Edelman so awesome for low picks?

The draft is still an imperfect science. If it wasn't, we'd be celebrating the latest Super Bowl appearance by JaMarcus Russell.

A lot of people are saying the Pat's won't miss Edelman because they're stacked at receiver and rightly so. I am more concerned about losing him because he's a horse for the offense. Now that he's out the other guys are going to be taking more reps, more hits and more of a beating. Come playoff time they'll be lucky to have the Dola, Mitchell, Cooks, Hogan rotation intact IMHO.

nfl ready is not the same as brady ready.......carr runs better routes than either of those 2

I agree.

We had 5 WR's and will play lots of 2 TE sets (with Gronk going out as a receiver), and lots of 2 RB sets (with a RB going out as a receiver). This offense was seriously stacked. We NEED 3 WR's. I certainly wouldn't have more than 3 active, given our TE's and RB's.

So, now we are down to 4 WR's. We can lose one more to injury and still have our normal offense (that is, no major changes). So, we don't need all four to healthy, only 3. More importantly, it is Gronk that is irreplacable.

My suspicion is that Lucien is better ready to play with Brady. Having over a year in the system is huge, especially for a marginal player.

But, you are correct. Carr is more likely than Lucien to be picked up by another team.

using a previous point you made, how many snaps has lucien taken with brady?

I think the biggest reason for every team's misses is the character of the player. I think the Patriots and some other teams investigate this as fully as possible but you never really know how a 22 year old wil respond once they have big checks in their bank account. Will they work their asses off, like Edelman, or will they take everything for granted and blow their career, like Manziel? And the other big factor is their toughness and approach to the game, which imo was Dobsob's biggest flaw, as he simply didn't have the toughness to compete in the field. The players who have a really strong work ethic and the toughness to really compete on every play are obviously much more likely to have productive careers , while those with a poor work ethic and are soft competitively are much more likely to fail. Figuring who will be who is a major challenge for every organization. Dobson imo lacked both the work ethic and the toughness necessary to have a successful career.

Perhaps you are the sort who believes something from a particular game is strong evidence of future performance. I'm not generally of that mind.

I'm confused by this.
Last year out of 962 snaps here are the WRs.

Hogan. 829
Edelman 874
Mitchell. 538
Amendola. 266
Floyd/slater. 118

Why wouldn't cooks be able to play 874? Hogan and Mitchell can clearly play their same numbers.
Amendola could surely play more.
Floyd was in for a handful at the end of the season when Dola was out. Skater played mop up.

How are we less deep than last year?

We LITERALLY replaced Edelman with cooks.

Also we probably will have FEWER WR sbaps this year because we have Gronk all season and multiple RBs who can contribute in the passing game.
