That's a concern I have as well. It is really unfair if a team has a truly injured young player who needs to go on IR, but you need to keep him on the final 53 before he can go to IR, and as a result you lose the players you were hoping to take their place on the roster.

You only have to keep him on the final 53 if you want to bring him back from IR. Otherwise, no waivers if you wait for cut day.

DH & Solder returning : music to my ears. DH practicing w the DL - though not unexpected, it is still intriguing. Are we gonna get a pass rusher extraordinaire at a MLB price ?

Their will be more moves on the d line
Yep almost 1200 players are going to be avail in 11 days. Plus there are guys floating around. Plus Pats have picks they can trade. All is not lost.

We need Miguel to clarify the rules with regard to IR for veterans and for non-veterans.

Wait a minute. You disagree with me and don't even know the rules? Come on man! That's weak!

And I asked Miguel about this 3 years ago with regards to Tyler Gaffney. What I said is how it normally works. Wait until cut downs and send him to IR. Doesn't need to be on the 53 and then IR'ed.

Great to see those guys back. High is still the heart and soul of that defense.
I don't know how much we'll see of him lining up as a pure de tho. Most of his passrushes have come from inside. (Of course, the biggest sack of his career and and in Patriots history, was from outside).
He's not your typical fast- twitch type edgerusher. What he is is a great all- around defender who can do many things well. I saw a stat last year that had him as the #1 interior passrusher in the NFL. Think about that. Obviously, team is light on edgerusher now and we have several guys who rush well from inside. So I'm as curious as everyone else to see what BB and MattyP have in store for us.
The great news is for me is how strong Rowe has looked. Butler and Gilmore were givens, but Rowe has a lot of raw ability. If he continues ascending, that secondary will really help out the passrushers. Think we might see an uptick in opponents ol holding calls.

Don't think there is difference. Only players put on IR from 53 can return.

The big difference is at cutting. Vested vets* do not go through waivers (until mid season trade deadline). That enables some tactical decisions on the cutting day (wrote about Bolden possible case here: The Brandon Bolden bubble case + Poll)

*Any player with at least four accrued seasons is considered a "vested veteran" and is not subjected to the waiver process. The NFL defines an accrued season as one in which a player appeared on the active 53-man roster for at least six games.

And recent Miguel tweet for some insurance..

Assuming Rivers's ACL is torn, matter of time before he goes to IR?

If he did go to IR, it would open up a roster spot.

Assume BB would want to do that sooner than latter?

Part of me wonders if there is some shotty reporting on the nature of his injury and its not a out-for-the-year type?

it was indeed reported Rivers would go through further tests/second opinion
ending of season not yet confirmed hence no IR at the moment

I disagree because we've had that discussion in a dozen or posts, and they disagree with your position.

I don't simply state my personal opinion based on memory of a situation a few years ago. I know that IR rules changed last year and this. I don't KNOW the current situation.

Yea after thinking it through they might be waiting until after the swelling or surgery to put him on IR

Thanks for posting.

And here I thought we had that already cleared up a few days ago when I posted just that. Why are the IR/vested veteran rules so complicated to understand for some ? Just because the two cut days were put into one the rules still stayed the same. What is the confusion about ?

oh I think we are going to see a lot of HT on the edge in passing situations.
And I think he will be as productive as any "34 OLB" in the league.

Rivers is under contract, he would not go through waivers if put on IR. Teams like to cut players and then put them on IR to save money. Contract is contract
