Will Cyrus Jones make this team

There are so many young guys showing off in practice and in the games that makes it difficult to argue to save a spot for a guy who isn't doing anything...

He might be a good PS candidate though (I believe he's still eligible)

Let's not forget how bad Jones was especially in the Baltimore game last season in coverage as well. The kid just blows. He probably has next to nothing left in the confidence department at this point. Once that happens to a player it's just about over. He talked about considering quitting at the end of last season. The Patriots should not waste a roster spot on him unless he somehow has a massive turnaround.

Mccourty was a pro bowl cb droy candidate with speed, hands and tackling ability who moved to safety.

Jones has none of those things. He's horrible at cb, so move him to safety because someone who is great at cb is now a good safety. What? Using that logic, i'd make a great safety too. After all, i'm terrible at cb, so i got that covered.

As you say, McCourty has excellent speed, hands and tackling ability. He also had the toughness and football recognition and intelligence to make the transition to safety.

In college at least, Jones had great hands for a CB (he was originally a receiver), great toughness and very good tackling ability. He is actually bigger than McCourty, although a bit shorter. So, a conversion to safety is not completely stupid IMHO. However, as you say, he isn't nearly as fast as McCourty (Jones 40 time was 4.49, McCourty's was quite a bit faster). Perhaps most importantly, it remains to be seen if Jones has the football recognition and intelligence to make the conversion to safety, I've been quite surprised that he has had as much trouble as he has so far.

Rich Hill says that Cyrus Jones should be CB #5 because he has ST's Teams upside??? I ask what upside???SMH.

Maybe he's talking about the upside the football has after it sails through his hands on a kickoff return?

Kontra you just made just me blurted out laughing at work.

Jones was also beat badly on the long PI call in the 2nd half last night, the guy was his man. The safety (Thompson) I thought made a good play timing his chop in the receivers arm well, He held his hand up and delayed bringing his arm down until he saw the ball.

Right Now assuming we keep 10 DB I would go:
CB: Butler, Gilmore, Rowe, J Jones, Coleman/K Moore

S: McCourty, Chung, Harmon, Ebner, B King/Thompson/d Jones

I can easily see neither C Jones or J Richards making this roster.

It's hard to believe that Cyrus Jones was a standout in the SEC and was coached by Nick Saban. More surprisingly than his lack of football skills is his lack of confidence and maturity.

Time to move on.

Unless he shows dramatic improvement, it would be a travesty if he made the roster.

Think of it this way and assume that our final cuts show up on the Jete roster.

Would the sight of Cyrus Jones in coverage for the Jete scare you at all? No. I'd much rather see that than see Carr or Hollister running passing routes for the Jete. That might be a threat. Cyrus would be an opportunity.

Looking at Wilson's and Butler's career I don't think you know what the word bust means.

The Pats don't get credit for these players not sucking with other teams. They were busts.

If you can't even look like a mediocre player on this team, with this coaching staff, then you're probably even less qualified to be playing the game of football than the majority of people on this forum.

To take it out of the specifics of last night, it seems obvious that the first four CBs are set (Butler/Gilmore/Rowe/J. Jones). The team needs to find a fifth CB, and I'm not sure that player is on the current roster.

Last season, the Pats carried 12 "DB" ...
-- 6 "safeties" (including Richards , Ebner & King).
-- 6 "CBs" (including Cy Jones and Jon Jones).

Jon Jones, Ebner & King were very high-value special teamers and Richards wasn't far behind them.

Thanks more evidence that 6 WR's in 2017 is not far fetched.

Cyrus Jones reminds me so much of 97 draft pick Chris Canty

If he makes the final cut it will qualify as the second best comeback of 2017.

What did our scouts see in Jordan Richards, Tavon Wilson, Ras-I Dowling, Darius Butler, Terrence Wheatley............. They were all 2nd round picks same as Cyrus, all within last 10 years.

You realize most of our 2nds are almost high thirds.

He looks terrible. I doubt he makes the team
