2017 Training Camp - Day 1 (7/27/17)

I can't agree more. I will be watching him and, for some reason, Van Noy the most in terms of second-year jumps (Van Noy second with this team). I like what they both showed for stretches of last season. Mitchell had a great SB and Van Noy made some plays and never really seemed out of place much, like McClellin (who has been a dud).

He had what..7 for 70 in the SB? Very excited

Didn't hear much on Gillislee today.

Not surprising. This was a pass catcher and pass coverage day. When the pads come on we will see. I expect lots of him in that Jags joint practice.

This excites me. There have been so many prognosticators saying he'll be cut. I just don't see why the Pats would do that unless he's injured. Even a somewhat less explosive Lewis last season (as he worked back into playing shape and all) was damn dangerous in the open field.

And the team is still undefeated when he plays. It may be meaningless but it's still true.

I'm just glad that play where he pulled up lame was nothing serious. And yeah, 2nd year is usually the sweet spot for ACL repairs.
Exactly! And yes, that final play SB play in regulation looked like something was really wrong with him. I'm glad it was just a tweak of the hamstring.

Honestly I am very disappointed to not see a single tweet about Gilmore. I know he was out there today. I was hoping he'd make a good impression and seeing as we spent 14M a year on him I was hoping to see the impact today. Not an unfair expectation for a guy you pay that much for.

Came here to say pretty much this. I remember in OTAs people were saying he looked like a smooth athlete, but made no mention of his actual play. That being said, defense is hard to gauge without contact.

Some nice bits from BSJ - Live coverage: Patriots open camp

  • Carr has been the star of day one, with several nice catches.
  • Gronkowski is his usual dominating self, and is having a grand old time between plays. He even acknowledged a young lady in the stands that brought a "Future Mrs. Gronkowski" sign.
  • Jimmy Garoppolo looks completely at ease with everything. He's being patient in his reads, and throwing the ball with great anticipation.
  • Jonathan Jones is getting a long look as the Patriots search for that third corner.
  • Rex Burkhead seems to be getting a long look as the two-minute RB. Probably trying to get him up to speed. James White and Dion Lewis know the drill.

Good post.

I might be paranoid but I think there is another shoe to drop in the CB unit.

Mark my words: Between 2-2:30 F/M I'll b pumping up Carr n questioning Amendola. Troll Central 98.5
You won't have to though. Felger and Mazz are likely already preparing their scripts for this very thing.

Ivan Fears said basically the same thing in Reiss's article this am.

Whomever is suggesting he might get cut is nuts.

Traded is a different story and even then that might be nuts.

Happy to see Kenny Moore doing things. He could make this team but he is a bit small at 5'9 180lbs. Unlike Butler he isn't thick. I am not sold on Cyrus being here. I am not afraid to cut bait with him if he can't get out of his head.

Paste-gate?

Won't know until the NFL* investigates.

In the meantime I expect the Pats to be docked two 1st rounds picks, provisionally, until they can be cleared.

Assumption should be guilty, naturally.

As an aside, it seems like this crop of DBs have impressed upon folks. I'm pumped about the offense, but the secondary may be lockdown potential.

So maybe the Pats have already found Butler's replacement if he doesn't re-sign?

BB isn't afraid to cut his losses either.

Cyrus is playing with fire.

" It was another strong showing for undrafted rookie cornerback Kenny Moore, who had an interception and four pass breakups. He was a standout during the spring, but this was his best practice so far in a Patriots uniform."

You could tell Butler was an NFL CB the first few days of camp. Hope this continues.

Moore binky hype train choo choo

picks are not working. player suspensions are not working.
i think banning BB is the next move

#1 CBs don't grow on trees. I think the team could survive moving on from Butler if Gilmore lives up to his contract and Rowe stays with one of the Jones guys or Moore stepping up if he is here next year. But you just can't replace Butler. If you could do it that easy having him with Gilmore next to him would not be the massive advantage it is.

Do people forget he is capable of doing this too?

I think its a combination of things that are clouding people's judgement.

Injury history
Not as explosive as 2015
Gillislee here
Burkhead here
James White love affair
DJ Foster binky-itis

As a player overall, a healthy, 2015 Dion Lewis has shown more than James White. Period. Case closed.
