Amendola vs Hawkins for the final WR spot.

Mike Reiss recently reported that Amendola & Hawkins will probably battle it out for the final WR Spot.

I have mixed emotions on this battle. Amendola has been clutch in big games, but he is also hurt a lot & not overly productive in the regular season.

Hawkins is a speedy slot receiver who may bring better special teams value.

I have to admit, I am glad Belichick is the one making the final decision.

Except it is not a decision at all. Unless Amendola gets injured it is his job. Hawkins has only a realistic shot if a WR or Slater gets injured.

I doubt that he will have this sudden breakout in camp where he outplays most other WRs on the team. At this point of his career he is what he is..

Amendola slot receiver?

Remember when Welker left & they over paid Amendola to be our next slot receiver.

Except he failed in the slot & Edelman ended up in the slot. Now the backup to Edelman in the slot is Hogan.

Learn what positions your binky plays before you start bragging about him.

Amendola can play every WR role they use. You don't actually watch the Patriots do you? Without his contributions they are still at 3 Lombardi's.

What leads you to believe JAG makes us better than any of those mediocre franchises?
How do you jettison a guy who is capable of winning the SB has won 2 of 3 and maybe 3 of 4 and is playing at his peak because you are afraid you can't survive without an unproven player?
You give yourself the chance to keep winning championships at the expense of whether this unproven guy turns out to be better than the next unproven guy.

Would you have done it 3 years ago? 2?1?

Where is the sense in getting rid of the best QB in the NFL because maybe his backup might be good when there is every chance the guy who you find to replace him in 2020 will be as good or better than JAG anyway?
Why are you trying to turn a thread about wide receivers into a Brady/JG thread when there's four thousand of those already?

I like turtles

He has taken 3 straight pay cuts because he was not worth what they were paying him.

17 touchdowns over 8 years = JAG

This is my last post on this subject - need to go..... only time will tell who Belichick keeps.

I am just glad the Patsfans forum isn't making the roster decisions.

I love how you call DA a JAG for only having 17 TDs in 8 years but Hawkins has only 9 TD in 6 years.

So, once again you are wrong. Maybe you should actually watch football before coming on here and bashing Patriot players and insulting posters here and hyping up some new player. You have looked like a complete idiot in this thread.

We are absolutely glad this forum isnt making roster decisions for the pats. Look how stupid you are.

If you think Amendola is a great return guy ..... you are out to lunch.

I trust Belichick over the Koolaid kids like yourself to make the right roster decision.

If he keeps Amendola, I am fine with it, but if I was going to place a bet, I would go with Hawkins.

Could you name me the last veteran that took a pay-cut to stay with the Patriots that BB jettisoned?

Amendola was never paid to be the Pats next slot receiver. He was paid to be a receiver on the Pats. As many people pointed out, Amendola was actually better suited outside than the slot. And Amendola didn't "fail" there.

Edelman also doesn't just play the slot. Edelman lines up everywhere. Since when is Hogan the back-up to Edelman in the slot? or is that your SWAG?

I find it funny you're telling others to learn the positions of their binkies, but then don't even understand the positions the players you named actually play..

Hawkins can return kicks & make tackles. When was the last time Amendola played on kickoff & punt coverage.

Belichick loves guys like Hawkins who can do more than one thing.

Hawkins is 5'7 3/8" tall and is 182 lbs..
Hawkins has 22 special teams tackles over his 6 year career. Pretty sure that Slater, King and Ebner get 3/4 of that in a single season. And Slater, King, and Johnathan Jones is who Hawkins would be up against on Special Teams. Not Amendola.

You claim that Hawkins can return kicks, yet I can't find a single kick return during his NFL career. And I checked on NFL.com and ProFootballReference.com. If you can show us otherwise, please do so. The only kick returns that Hawkins has was during his CFL days back in 2009 and 2010. He had a TOTAL 15 returns in 2 years for a 19.3 YPR avg.

Amendola had 5 kick returns last season averaging 25.8 YPR. Only DJ Foster had a better YPR on the team at 30. But Foster only had 1 return.

Amendola also had 18 punt returns. Only 6.7YPR, though.

Your "support" for Hawkins being better value is the single video showing an open field tackle in the CFL .

Danny Amendola
Andrew Hawkins

9 TD on 209 receptions < 17 TDs During the Regular Season and another 4 Play-off TDs on 396 Receptions.

As for Hawkins on special teams, you're overlooking UDFAs like Jason Thompson and David Jones.. Both of whom were exceptional STs players in college, are 8-10 years younger than Hawkins, and are nearly as fast.

You use to be a Bruins fan?
So your a bandwagon bozo ?

Insults like that show you've lost the argument and can't actually keep pace with what's being said.. So you try and change the argument to look smaht..

DA is a proven player in New England and Tom Brady trusts him. This puts him ahead of Hawkins and any UDFA. Unless any of these guys gain Brady's trust AND outperform DA, he stays on the roster.

Hawkins is really fast - a close second to Cooks. The combo could force most teams into zone for Brady to pick apart.

This Hawkins move might actually be about Edelman, not Amendola. Edelman is going to want a hefty contract next year and so maybe this is Belichick looking a year or two ahead as always.

So now Hogan is a JAG? SMH.. You just jumped the shark..

Hogan is a total JAG !
Just like 17 touchdowns in 8 years -
Amendola.

Surprised you didn't respond to my anti Bruins posts.

You must agree.... they suck as an organization... owner, coach & GM.

You should stick with hockey.
You obviously know nothing about football.

Amendola was signed to replace Welker & failed.

Patriots sign Amendola to replace Welker

He failed at replacing Welker !

Because WRs in their early 30s tend to get such enormous contracts. . . .

Seriously, I think if the Patriots make a reasonable offer, he'll stick around.

Could you name me the last veteran that took a pay-cut to stay with the Patriots that BB jettisoned?

Tom Brady took a pay cut for the good of the team.

Amendola took a pay cut because he was not worth his current contract & he would have been cut if he did not take a huge pay cut.

Amendola's most recent pay cut was huge, but nobody would have given him that money, so he had no choice.

Edelman plays so hard that he's always at risk of injury. Already a lot of mileage on those treads even though he's about the same age as Hawkins. So I still think that Belichick might view Hawkins also as an Edelman understudy rather than as simply competition for Amendola.

Let's say you're onto something. Who would you project as the cut then, seeing as how Cooks, Hogan, Edelman, and Mitchell are locks?

Personally, I think he's here for injury insurance. As long as the competition is this good, I'm happy as a fan.
