Martellus Bennett Says Goodbye

He was a good fit and glad we had him since Gronk got injured he played a key role at the beginning of the season and in the playoffs. He was a solid blocker. I hope Allen can replicate Bennetts success this year.

Alas poor Marty. Go get us that comp pick.

Really liked having him here and I'll always love that vid of him dancing with the cheerleaders. Totally fine with him leaving though, will keep rooting for em

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this mercenary pulls a Vinitraitor and signs with an AFC enemy.
Enjoy your one AND ONLY ring, B-Hole.

You say this like he owes it to the patriots to not sign with certain teams or something. The guy was here one year and helped us win a ring. He doesn't owe us anything. Also, I'm sure he will enjoy his one ring and mega deal that he is getting ready to sign.

Can we get a "sad" icon added? I don't disagree or dislike, just feel sad that this attitude would be brought here and exists in Patriot nation.

Unfortunately negativity and ingratitude are very real part of Patriot Nation, we see it all the time,

When Gronk went down his play saved this teams bacon.

If Gronk is healthy he won't be missed.

If Gronk is not he will.

Don't let fans let you believe Allen > Marty

I like the Allen trade, which puts the Pats in pretty good shape at TE #2.

Bennet was good, but the blabbermouth schtick was wearing pretty thin for me. So, a shrug for Marty and on to the next metaphorical Cleveland.

when you think of the respective cap hit of each player we've got a good replacement at a decent price.
As good as? probably not. But more than serviceable.

Well he played when he was Hurt, was a good solder accepted the roles given him by the coach. Getting his last BIG contract, grats Marty.

I NEVER get bothered when players cash in short carer, limited time to make the money and set their families up.
Don't understand fans who don't get this.

Plus he is gonna fetch us a 3rd or 4th rd pick.

Well, aren't you the precious fellow. I found your post a little negative, but I'll bear up.

I'm OK with Allen but you get what you pay for. He's been inconsistent and not durable.

With that said Marty at $9m a year is a bit much.

Agreed. He came here and signed a one year 'prove it' deal. He 'proved it'. Now he sees that there's a big market for his services and it's time for him to cash in, which has been the plan all along. If that wasn't the plan, he would have taken the Pats offer of an extension. That's just how the NFL works.

We all know BB doesn't like to set the market. The odds of him doing it for MB were pretty low, given how many years he's been in the league already.

On a personal level, it's a shame seeing him go, but on an intellectual level, it was totally expected.

Good luck Marty, thanks for the contribution and toughing it out through the injuries. Sucks we didn't get to see him and Gronk together for much.

A "shrug". That's mighty nice of you.

The guy played hard, played injured and made some big time catches. Give the guy the credit he deserves. If you don't like his "blabbering" don't buy his Jersey.

He gave the Pats what they needed which was an upper tier TE that blocked well.

Agreed. We are not SB LI champions without Bennett.

What's interesting is why anyone on patsfans.com could be remotely mad.

Between Long, Bennett, and Revis why would it be bad to set in motion....year after year.... the idea that vets come in for a year, at a discount, win a ring.....then move on to a huge payday?

With the Pats getting a 3rd round comp pick?

So next year, the same suspects are going to get mad at Ben Dover after #6?

What people have to remember is McCourty has already played over a season of playoff football. Going deep into the playoffs year after year requires a certain level of roster churn.

To echo @patsfanincleveland -
We should look at this as a positive thing. Embrace it.
It's like college basketball with the one and done players - UK and Duke embrace the 1 year player that wants the ESPN airtime and bolts to the NBA (student-athlete, please). Both parties benefit.
People like Marty and Revis give BB the opportunity to tell prospective free agents:
"come here and get paid pretty well, work hard for us and get your ring, and then have the opportunity to score a huge deal here or anywhere you want."

I agree with everything you say, THEN I shrug.
