Pats interested in Saints WR Brandin Cooks

Except tbe Saints turned it down so we need to sweeten the pot.
In my opinion you give em a 1st and conditional third or fourth next season.

When was the last time you heard about a pats offer before it was done deal?

I seriously doubt the original story that any such offer was ever made. (See earlier post about wrs and 1st rnd)

at #32 ? your going to get a kick ass LB, DE, or DT instead of one of the best proven WRs in the NFL ? Look , I dont really want this trade anymore but seems like a steal to me, Im starting to think.
Always interested in your imput, but this isn't about how good or bad Cook is as a player. It's about the value of the POSITION. Cook would be a wonderful LUXURY for the Pats, who would certainly add to an offense that is going to be one of league's top 5 regardless. You know that. How many more wins will it provide?

That is the mantra that drives this team. On the other hand, I believe the impact of a quality DT, DE, LB or even CB prospect would have a greater long term impact on the team's success than ANY WR we brought in. It's just the nature of the offense and the fact the QB is Tom Brady.

Your team's offense has been effective regardless of who is catching the ball. That is the product of Peyton's offensive structure and Drew Brees' effectiveness. You should know better than most that your season might have been more impacted by another good defensive prospect last season than Cook if you had gone that way a few seasons ago. It's all about the wins and losses.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Pats offense would certainly be more exciting and explosive if Cooks were here, but would it result in more wins. OR would bringing in an explosive rookie on the defensive side of the ball have a greater long term impact.

Besides, while Cooks would be a relative bargain at 2 years for about $5MM/yr, there is no way BB is going to pay him whatever top WR's get ($13-15 I'm guessing) after that. So at best you have a 2 year rental as opposed to a defensive prospect at a position of much greater need that you control for 5 years. Granted there is a risk all draft picks bring, but a risk worth taking.

DISCLAIMER - It should be noted that I have always believed that WR's are the position that is the MOST easily replaceable, and their value and importance has always been over hyped by fans and the media. Winning the superbowl with the WR we won it with only proves the point. That's not to say our WR's sucked, but rather quality WR's who can help you win don't need to be first rounders. There are so many of them, they can be found all over the draft and beyond. So this belief obviously affects my thinking

Yeah this isn't real or can't be. Not BBs style

Sorry thats all All I thought itwas about is cooks, my fault

The thing about Cooks is that he is fully developed in his prime. IF you spend #32 on a rookie WR, yes you get more contract control, but often you have to wait 2-3 years before the guy blossoms.

Cooks has back to back 1,100+ yard receiving seasons now and is young at age 23/24.

Wonder if trading for Cooks means the Pats are pushing for repeat title, and want to give Brady that Moss-lite receiver in 2018?

This would be a fantastic move, make it happen BB. Cooks is a stud young WR with explosive ability who can play slot or go deep. Electrifying playmaker which would make our offense unstoppable.

I have to laugh at people who say this isn't a BB move. As if they know the way BB thinks. BB is the most unpredictable thinker in football, haven't you guys realized that? He makes moves that make us scratch our head all the time.

Let's get this trade finalized

Cooks
Gronk
Edelman
Mitchell
Hogan

Good Luck NFL

If this is true and Belichick was willing to part with 32, I trust him. Pats could do a tremendous job with the kid and as someone said, DA and Jules are getting older. Not saying Edelman is going anywhere but can't hurt to bring in the next guy.

It would also sort of suggest to me that the Patriots do intend to trade JG, which would give us a high first rounder to make up for one which could have been sent for Cooks.

People who are against this move have not done there research on Cooks. He is very young, a proven stud, and he can lineup anywhere on the field. He can also score from anywhere on the field. He is a future star who fits our system perfectly

I love Cooks, and ranked'm Top 10 the November before the Draft, when he was tracking 2nd/3rd Round, but this would be an incredibly stupid Move.

I don't blame y'all for believing it ~ instinctively trusting others speaks to your own Honesty ~ but the Debris who "reported" this out to be shot.

People who support this alleged move have not done their Research.

Turns out: There is this thing called The Salary Cap.

Turns out: 1st Round Picks are worth something.

Flushing 1st Rounders down the Toilet for Vets who're about to get paid $15 Million or so a Year is what Idiots do. Pay Cooks $15 Million a Year? Sure.

But dump a 1st Rounder in the Sewage to do so??

Stupid.

It's possible.

DA is old

Jules has 1-2 more years of solid production and is a FA next year I think.

It's Hogan and MM after that.

They may not need him now but in 2018 they sure as hell will.

BB is always a year early with this stuff.

Cooks reminds me of Troy Brown.

Not happening. There isn't a need for doing that at this position for the Pats.

BB is simply doing his good bud, Sean Payton, a solid by publicly offering a 1st rounder so that Sean can shoot it down and set the floor for future negotiations with other teams.

It's the NFL back scratcher network.

.

Disagree BB loves Cooks and just saw how Julio Jones almost single handedly won a superbowl
Cooks can be that kind of weapon with the ball in his hands almost Percy Harvin flexibility as far as catching screens going outs and hand offs reverses and tops.

The only times we've ever heard such things is when the other team leaked them. The Patriots run a tight ship, other franchises not so much. So either the Pats made an offer and the Saints leaked it or someone's spinning moonbeams.

Since we're talking about a good player here who might be worth what was reportedly offered, I think it's the former. The pats have no problem paying market price for the right player, and with an aging QB and nothing but a couple prospects behind him top end wideouts are a potential need. And once the deal broke down the Saints had no compunction about leaking the info in order to drive up the asking price for Cooks. It's a narrative that smells true because it makes pragmatic sense for all parties to act in this way.

Roosevolt Colvin Deon Branch trade to Seattle
Terry Glenn trade to Green Bay
Donte Stallworth trade
Revis signing
I can think of a few just off the top of my head

Drew Brees is a thing that exists. Garoppolo doesn't want to stay in NO behind Brees any more than he wants to stay in NE behind Brady. That deal isn't worth it for the Saints if they don't get Garoppolo to extend, and why the hell would Garoppolo sign an extension to a team where he'd have the same problem that he has right where he is? Hell, Brees is YOUNGER than Brady so his situation is even worse in NOLA

I think this is his last year there
