Wow I didn't realize he was like that! I'm a Penn State season ticket holder and he was such a force there. Always in the backfield and always creating havoc. He didn't have dreads then either. It's crazy how people can change in such a short amount of time.

Oh, well. Chris Long was apparently a big, flaming lefty too but he worked out fine.

One thing worth noting is that he will not count as CFA (Compensatory Free Agent) - if I understand correctly - which would be typical BB business focusing on castoffs and trades to maximise the number and quality of comp picks - one of the key ingredients to this unlikely long-term success along with not overpaying players..

In order to qualify for the comp equation, a player must have been a true Unrestricted Free Agent whose contract had expired or was voided after the previous season (i.e., he cannot have been released by his old team); he must sign during the UFA signing period (which ended July 27 last year); if he signs after June 1[*], he must have been tendered a June 1 qualifying offer by his old team; his compensatory value or contract value must be above a specific minimum amount; and he cannot have been permanently released by his new team before a certain point in the season (which seems to be after Week 10) or, possibly, before getting a certain amount of playing time, unless he was claimed off waivers by another team.

These players that qualify are known as Compensatory Free Agents (CFAs), and this is perhaps the provision that trips up most people who unfamiliar with the process. Players who are cut are the most common example of free agents not becoming CFAs, but other methods of disqualification, such as a Restricted Free Agent not given a tender, also exist. In its most general sense, players only become Compensatory Free Agents if they are able to leave their old team against that team’s will. (However, one notable exception are team options that void a contract; see Special Cases below.)

I'd much rather them find a way to keep Branch if it becomes a one or the other scenario.

I think he'll come back. Don't think he'll ask for that much. Especially since there are so many veteran DTs out there. The FA market will play itself out accordingly, and Pats will offer what they believe is a fair deal.

"He spends his time off in Canada, which he says he prefers because America is a “gun culture” that was “built on the backs of slaves.”"

Oh brother!

It's just weird to hear "big tough" football players spouting the same fruity liberal rhetoric my crazy old moonbat aunt spouts at Thanksgiving dinner.

Maybe the truth (or his truth) hurts some people? Idk.

I hear you. He played at an All-Pro level and was NE's most consistent player on D (also Chung) last season. I hope he does stay.

Nothing says "Patriots type of player" like a guy who tanks after making his money, becomes a nutter off the field, and shows that he's got a bunch of things besides football going on in his life.

I liked him when he played for Miami - tough, versatile player who always seemed to give us trouble. Haven't really followed him since he left the division, though. If he's still in the ballpark of where he was two years ago I wouldn't mind seeing him here at all.

Like the move if it happens. I would be bored playing in jacksonville. Hard to give full effort in a dump like that.

That would be a pretty exciting signing.

Well we know one thing...he's happy to be out of football purgatory aka Jacksonville.

LOL I went back and forth with Miko Grimes on his Instagram for that pic until she blocked me. What an achievement.

I'd like it as long as not much guaranteed money is handed out. Good player when right.

Its not they are different players. Odrick bulks his way up to 300, Branch trims down to 350.

I think this is a cheap depth signing.
More like an interior pass rush rotation guy.
