Love it when BB goes off on the empty suits.

“I’d say last week was a good example of some of the big proponents of ‘we want more touchbacks.’ We saw a pretty big concussed play with a touchback, so part of the touchback is, ‘we think it’s a touchback,’ so everybody’s not really playing at the same speed because we think it’s a touchback, it’s going to be a no-play. But as a coverage team, you don’t know for sure if the guy isn’t coming out or not, so you’re playing it at full speed. Some of the concussions, some of the injuries look to me like they come on touchbacks. “So, we want more touchbacks. Is that really solving the problem here as it’s been presented by the competition committee? I think you know how I feel about it. We’ll see how smart some of that has really been to address the problems that we think are being addressed. I don’t know. It seems like, football, we’ve got a pretty good game here. It’s been that way for a long time. It seems like the kicking game has been a great part of our game. I guess we have a lot of people that feel like the game needs to be changed, so I don’t know. We’ll have to see where all that turns out. I don’t know what all the numbers are. I couldn’t tell you for sure.”

Love it!!!

"I'm challenging the whole damn system!!"

This reminds me of his take on the old extra points. It was a non competitive play so guys would sometimes load up on one side to go after a particular player such as Gronk which would lead to injuries. He was right. The guy understands football at a level very few do. I also remember him talking about how fewer practices in pads would lead to more injuries and poor early season play. Again, he was right. It's a shame that most of the rest of the league would rather go after him on witch hunts rather than listen to one of the greatest minds their sport has ever known.

The extra point (the previous form) and now the kick off has become a pointless play. I think BB said in the past they might it as well take the kickoff out. And I agree

Sounds like a new Gate will be formed by the NFL for Belichick.
Something about his attire?
HoodyGate
Belichick wears a hoody so the light doesnt affect his vision

Like most of their other brain dead rules changes, they should have just left it as is. Eliminating it is an awful idea. It's one of the more exciting plays in the game.

Early in the year he was kicking high and short, forcing run backs that hardly made the 25. I liked that idea, but anyone have quick pats data of number of touch backs this year vs past?

I agree that it should just be the way it was, and that the kicking game is a big part of the game and its history. Teams used to punt before 4th down back in the old days. My point is though, if they want more touchbacks, why not just take it out. It's pointless to have it the way it is now

He should have waited till the end of the season, now here comes the scandal

If Belichick has a preference for the way the rules committee does things then he should have joined the committee and taken part in the discussions. Complaining about the rules doesn't help, especially when it comes from a HC who has chosen not to take part in any of the process in decades.

In my opinion there has been only one good rule change the last 15 years. That is making the final games division games so there are fewer meaningless week 17 games.

BB's best suggestion was lengthening the goal posts. So simple, effective and definitive. I've seen many field goals clank off the the uprights, and in the past it would be left to the refs to decide if it stayed within an invisible line. What's crazy is that the committee was initially against this proposal.

Replace the kickoff with a free kick allowing the kicking team 2 "options" a game to kick off after their score which would allow for an on-side kick.

A free kick is statistically a much safer play than the kickoff, so player safety would be improved while maintaining the excitement of the return.

Personally, I would do away with the extra point making the TD 7 points to save time and improve the flow of the game since all scoring plays are now reviewed. A team could obviously go for two.

Many like the longer extra points, but, from a competitive situation, place kickers have too much of a role in the outcome of games, so I do not like it. I'd rather increase the contribution of the other 45 active players to winning or losing games

What do you mean by a "free kick"? Kickoffs ARE "free kicks". A "free kick" simply means the defense has to line up 10yd off the ball and can't move towards the ball until it's been kicked.

I really think [no evidence] that those kicks messed with ghosts kicking motion.
