That reminds me of something that has always stood out to me watching Brady; his eyes.
Now I have never been in the position of rooting against him so I don't get to experience it from the other side, and there have been other great champions in other sports who may have had that trait, but it seems to me it has to be very intimidating watching him walk to the line as he surveys the field. His eyes are intense, intelligent, and controlled. There is no fear in them, and the size of the moment doesn't seem to faze him, he lives for these moments, and that has to be unnerving being on the other side.
I was very young so my memory may be faulty, but the only other athlete that I can remember having this kind of effect on the opposition was Bob Gibson of the St Louis Cardinals, certainly when it came to the Red Sox trying to win a world series against him.
That's @The Gr8est observation.
I remember Gibson but I don't remember his eyes. I've definitely noticed Brady's eyes though and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Gibson had that same look. It's a look that I imagine an animal has as it seeks to devour it's prey. Very cold as you described above. Like the way Quint described a shark's eyes in Jaws.
I think some people have a tendency to judge Brady the football player by his personal life and his looks. It's why they don't think of him as tough. But he is tough, both physically and mentally tough. And yes, we can see it in his eyes.
One other local QB he reminds me of, only on a much grander scale, is Flutie. He always seemed to be able to bring his team back even if he was struggling. Brady does it in the biggest games of them all.
