Dion Lewis Update

The writing was on the wall in 2007. Tremendously disappointing of course, but apart from Moss' singular talent (a big "apart from" to be sure), this team is offensively deeper, more talented and diverse. Not sure if it's close, actually.
I'd say the 2007 offensive line was better. Which is kind of bitter to say considering the meltdown of that offensive line in the last game of the season. But yes, if this offense is healthy and Lewis by the time the playoffs roll around is able to replicate what he did last year this offense can contend with the 2007 one for the best of all-time.

Yes this second half of the season is going to be 2015's first half of the season on steriods LETSSS FU*KING GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! But one question? WHO'S GONNA FEEL SO ALIVE WHEN WE GET NUMBER 5? OHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Health IS the deciding factor right now. Key pieces stay upright : I like this team vs anybody.

Not sure what your point is here, that the Pats offense that year was the same throughout the year? That's not true.

I'm saying that people overplay the early games and underplay the late games. That offense really only obliterated teams for a 5 week stretch in middle. It was still extraordinary for the whole year, but the crazy numbers only happened for a brief time. That the weather (i.e. Baltimore) and the lack of urgency (i.e 2nd half of Miami game) impacted the way the team played does not mean that defenses had figured them out.

Thank you. Dion Lewis is nasty. He possesses athleticism and playmaking abilities no other pats RB has,

This week, they play Seattle. Next week, they play San Francisco, with Navarro on IR.

I'm all for keeping him out until next week.

Are their players lighter and hit softer?

An underrated aspect of Lewis is how great he is at picking up the blitz. Yes he's scary good in the open field, but he's not a one trick pony. This part of his game made a difference last year too.
He's surprising good in short yardage situations and running between the tackles too. He is truly a complete back. With him, it's all about whether he can stay healthy. Hopefully the new strength and conditioning coach and a little bit o' luck will improve his durability.

I think everyone underrates the loss of Sammy Morris.

I don't.

Games 1-5 w/ healthy Morris= 155 rushing yards per game
Games 5-SB42 w/o healthy Morris or out= 101 rushing yards per game

While unspectacular, he most likely would have had a 1000 yard season and would have continued to add legitimacy to the play-action passing game. After one cut he would hit the hole hard and wasn't afraid of contact. His running style was perfect for this offense.

In the playoffs, while LoMo gave them what they needed vs JAX and SD, he totally turned tail vs the GMen. He did his typical dancing and didn't take that one cut and hit the hole.

I will contend to this day that if JMD decided to run a little more, Morris would have received 15-18 carries that game he would have been over 100 yards and the Pats would have won SB42

You may be right about the o-line, although as you say, it all comes down to execution on gameday.

But as for 2016 vs. 2007, look at it this way...put this year's offense, healthy, in that game....do they score more than 14 points? Hard to argue otherwise.

In hindsight, yes for sure. But going into that Super Bowl no one thought THAT offense would only score 14 either. Not even Brady, who is normally so humble (outwardly anyway), joked about Burress' prediction of a 21-17 Giants win, saying (paraphrase): "We're only gonna score 17 points? Is Plax gonna play defense?"

I think I agree that this offense is more diverse and and I would be shocked if they were limited that way in a big game. But I think it's a bit disingenuous to think that the offensive output in SB42 was anything but shocking as well.
