NFL Free Agency Thread

The Ravens and Steelers have improved since last season. I don't know why fans here are writing them off.

Longer deals in the NYJFL are meaningless. It's what's up front that counts.

People knock Danny boy too much.

Free agency is very similar to black friday. If you just wait until the mad rush is over you can still get the good deals.

The Ravens and Steelers have both become worse so far in the FA period.

The Ravens just lost one of the top 5 guards in the game, which is a bigger loss than Eric Weddle is a gain. The Steelers lost Martavis Bryant for the year, and as of now their LT is a free agent and nobody knows if he'll re-sign.

I would've liked to see Weddle in New England, but no thanks for the money that he got. He may well be worth it, but I don't the Pats can afford that if their primary goal is keeping their own young talent.

If the choice is seeing Harmon/Richards playing opposite McCourty and using money to extend Hightower and Collins then I wouldn't consider signing Weddle. The sum of all parts > the singular.

the afc is basically a lock if our " competition " are the steelers/ravens. lol

more mentions of forte and boldin. no idea why people are so interested in old skill position players. unless we have a time machine, then it's pointless.

Won't talk about Forte because that milk is spilled. but yeah, i wouldn't mind a couple of veterans getting signed - Boldin, Long, Laurenitis...someone like that. Typically, the best deals can be guys who have already made their money and are looking for a ring, or who want to go out a winner.

You're not going to sign a Boldin to a deal like Weddle just got and there's a big difference between tying up money for one year with an option as opposed to four years. Dead money is to be avoided!

The Patriots have a very solid roster right now, with a couple of fixable exceptions. Give me "prove it" deals or "get a ring" deals, you bet.

Miguel's page said $17 million when I posted that...and still does.

I agree - but his site was last updated on Thursday. He keeps his Twitter number up to date though, that's where the 12.15m comes from.

No one knows if Beachum is healthy enough to sign right now.. It may be June or July before he's healthy enough to sign..

Good call but Beachum is shopping his wares right now. He insists he is ready for 2016. The Steelers want him back. Oziie wants a shot as do the Jags. Here is your Volmer replacement who has played at a high level and very athletic to repel quicker DEs. Even if he has to take fewer snaps until he is full throttle he is better than anyone on our roster and quire frankly anyone at Draft pick #60 or better.

I just had 2 people post on twitter..."I am blocking the Patriots until they actually spend and stop being so cheap". They would rather not follow their favorite team because they "didn't spend aka over spend so far...1 week into FA"

If you don't have twitter the best time to have one as a pats fan is this exact moment. When Pats don't land a big name..."lucky if this team wins 10" "cheap" "Why can't we be like the other teams" I get so many laughs a day and we all know how good laughing is for your health. Been a healthy week for me!

No need to spend that on a position we are pretty deep in and have 2 VERY good guys back there in Chung and McCourty. Save that $$ for those big extensions we will need to dish out.

BTW next offseason i feel will be very stressful with all these big names up and if they have more monster years i will be a bit worried going into next offseason

Everyone....follow me!!!!!

And yet, the Patriots spent more than any team in the AFC and 28 other teams in the NFL.

$32 million carried over by Jacksonville, good lord! No wonder they went on a spending spree this FA period. And how about Seattle only carrying over $11k? Talk about spending it all...

Those same critics of the Patriots being cheap are probably slobbering over how "smart" the Jaguars are

Makes me think that BB is quiet in free agency this year because he's already thinking about next offseason - carrying money over for next year's free agent class and/or extending jones, hightower and collins.

So all the Pats have to do is not spend any money next year and lose a ton of players, then carry over all that space the year after and overpay for a bunch of average to above-average talents? Is that how you win Super Bowels?

I'm sure that factors into it, although IIRC the team only has somewhere around $90 million in cap commitments for next season currently, so they'll have something like $70-80 million in cap space... Obviously, a good chunk of that will go to extensions for guys like Hightower, Collins or Butler, but otherwise I'm not sure who else needs paying for that isn't currently being accounted for. I think I'll look at it tomorrow.

While watching Path to the Draft on the NYJFL Network, I read that Sealver Siliga has signed with Seattle for 1 year, $1.5M, I forgot how much guaranteed (between $100-400K IIRC).
