I do not know a safety that is better than Rodney Harrison in NFL. I have not watched NFL prior 1985 but I do not know a better safety than Rodney Harrison. Any comparisons or input is welcomed with open arms.

Ronnie Lott is the best all-time. Ed Reed is the best right now.

I love the Rodster - But his career will not even come close to Ronnie Lott a 10 time pro bowler.

Roy Williams and Ed Reed right now are the top safeties and John Lynch was pretty good too in his younger days and is still a tough hard hitting guy out there...Rodney would probably make the top 10 best ever in some opinions.

Kerry Rhodes Thank You, also I like guys like Dawkins, Wilson, Reed, Williams, Taylor, Sharper

As of right now my vote goes to Ronnie Lott with Ed Reed closing in. Nothing against #37, but he is about 4th or 5th.

Harrison isn't top 5 in the league right now. Brian Dawkins, Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Adrian Wilson, Sean Taylor, Bob Sanders and Roy Williams are all better right now. He's pushing to make the top 10 at this point.

The fact that Harrison isn't top 5 in the league right now at this point in his career doesn't mean he isn't one of the best ever. I'm not saying he is, just that at his age, with his recent injuries, of course these younger players will be better.

Emmitt Smith was middle of the road when he finally retired. Jerry Rice was very forgettable at the end of his career. Warren Moon finished up as the #3 in Seattle.

Again, I'm not saying Harrison is the best ever, just that he's winding down his career so obviously he's not going to be the top safety in the NFL.

Anybody remember Larry Wilson????

I think you need to give top honors to Ronnie Lott, but Rodney's right there near the top. Anybody who compares Rodney to Roy Williams and Sean Taylor either isn't actually watching these players play or is blinded by something. If you look at the safeties that have been to pro bowls instead of Rodney, it's comical. I agree that Ed Reed is better right now, but the comparison isn't all that accurate since they are such different players. Do you really believe that if the Patriots had a players-only meeting where they could trade Rodney for any safety in the league--think anyone in that room would vote to give him up? No frickin' chance. The thing about Rodney is that the guy finds his way into virtually every play, it's uncanny. Sometimes when watching old games I see how many plays in a row involve Rodney and it's ridiculous. Watching San Diego used to be the Rodney Harrison show--the announcers had no choice to drone on and on about him even if they didn't want to.

Nevermind his leadership--can you name a better leader? ever? I recall Brady talking about Rodney training while coming back from the ACL--he was like "we all think we are working hard and then we look over at Rodney."

The guy is a first ballot HOFer and has the statistics to back it up.

Enjoy him while you can!

Rodney could be one of the best ever. It depends on how you define "best ever". If you combine his play, his leadership, his drive to win, and his ability to make big plays at important times over a long carrer, then he has to be in the top 10. That would make him one of the best ever.

And he is not done yet. Barring another freak injury, I expect Rodney to have a very good year in 2007.

Roy Williams is not a top safety. He gets burnt more than an albino at the beach.

As a biased Pats fan that loves to watch #37 make guys like Marvin Harrison crap their pants and be non-factors, I with you thinking he should, but in the end, I don't think he will make it as a 1st time HOF.

Kerry friggn Rhodes

And the Seseme street photo is so gay.

So many posts and yet no one has mentioned Rodney is the only safety EVER with over 25 sacks (he has 28.5) and 30 interceptions (he has 32)? No one else is even close to this achievement, really.

Pro bowls don't mean anything, especially in Rodney's case where he was snubbed probably a half dozen times.

Hey buddy before you laugh how bout you do some research. 1) you need to stop hating on the sesame pic 2)If you check the stats Kerry Rhodes had the best stats out of every safety in the NFL, if you watch the gametape you will see he played top 5 caliber safety. I dont care if you agree b/c every analyst and football fan with any sense would agree Kerry Rhodes>Harrison and that Rhodes is a top ten safety. He was pro bowl quality but Lynch got picked over him b/c it was Rhodes only second year in the league and lynch had the track record. Lynch registered 0 sacks 0 int's and 0 FF. Outside of your little Pats world there actually are very good players

Kerrry Rhodes:99 tackles 4 IINT's 5 sacks 3 FF
Ed Reed: 60 tackles 5 INT's 0 sacks 1 FF
Troy Polamalu:77 tackles 3 INT's 1 sack 1 FF
Brian Dawkins:98 tackles 4 INT's 1 sacks 5 FF
Sean Taylor:114 tackles 1 INT 0 sacks 3 FF
Adrian Wilson: 85 tackles 4 INT's 5 sacks 4FF
I wont even bring up Harrison at this point in his career.

IMO Rodney is the best safety of the last 15 years. His career statistics, his nasty reputation, his playoff performances (6 INTs in 6 games) support my argument. He is a HOF player. IMO the reason the Pats did not win the SB last season was his injury vs. Tennessee. The reason I believe this is that Rodney (1) has the knack for the big play (2) is the best safety blitzer of all time (3) has elite run stuffing instincts (4) has elite ability to jam at the LOS (5) has an intimidation factor. The combination of these elements would have had a similar effect on the Pats D that Bob Sanders presence had for the Colts.

Is this manly enough for you? It wouldnt surprise me if he was dirty enough to use a wrench on the field.

I believe that the title of the thread is "best safety ever". Rhodes has done well for his 2 whole years in the NFL. I don't think that qualifies him as even getting a whisper as "best ever". I don't think it qualifies him to be mentioned in the same thread as Rodney.

You Jest fans have to look outside your, almost 40 years of never winning a SB since the merger of the AFL-NFL, team and not mention a 2nd year player as "best ever".

This one is more "manly".

Well I responded in this thread to someone who labeled him top ten right now. So I changed from all time to present day. (check the post right before mine). So as you saw I used last years stats to rank among modern day safeties hence why there is a least of stats from last year. Aqua responded in the same context as me. I obviously would not put Dawkins, Wilson, Reed, Williams, Taylor, Sharper in the top ten safeties all time.

*Pic changed for Manliness

Let's not forget that Harrison should have been able to add Super Bowl MVP to his resume as well, but was snubbed in favor of Branch.
