When measuring the Patriots footballs Clete Blackman consistently came up with PSI readings .4 less than Dyrol Prioleau but when Clete Blackman measured the Colts balls they came in much higher than Dyrol Prioleau

When I read that I was thinking in my head, "wow, that poster should be a lawyer". Then I saw who it was.

I don't understand why it's odd that Brady would text Jastremski on January 19th after the allegations. Naturally he'd go to the ball handler. I do find it a little odd that they say they weren't talking about the balls specifically, and that's one of the few head scratchers for me on this one.

Brady does not know who the heck McNally is. He seems to talk to McNally through Jastremski. He was likely trying to see if they did something stupid to incriminate him.

The next day, October 24, 2014, Jastremski and McNally exchanged the following messages:

Jastremski: I have a big needle for u this week

McNally: Better be surrounded by cash and newkicks....or its a rugby sunday

McNally: **** tom

Jastremski: Maybe u will have some nice size 11s in ur locker Tom must really be working your balls hard this week

It's obvious from these texts Tom was giving McNally things in exchange for lowering the pressure.

If he did know something, I will 'slightly' feel lied to about the whole thing. I know how great he is without a doubt, but it's just troubling that he would've lied about this.

I have a hard time caring about a QB violating a rule that's clearly not properly enforced, was put in only because of KICKERS, and then modified without sufficient thought, and has nothing more than "good enough" as its underlying logic.

There is precedent for "lack of institutional control" penalties ... Most notably ones handed to Sean Payton in '11 and Rich McKay this year

IMO this holds no water. While I don't think Payton should have been disciplined, the Bounty Program was PROVEN and was much more serious of an allegation. Similarly, the crowd noise deal with Atlanta was PROVEN and was much more serious, and it was not a coach or GM who was disciplined but rather a guy on the competition committee... In this case Belichick was not only cleared as not knowing anything by Wells, but Wells did NOT EVEN PROVE SOMETHING HAPPENED.

Payton was warned by the league on more than one occasion during the season about bounties.

Some thoughts:

1. Almost all of the texts I find not at all damning, and I find the Wells interpretation of them so absurd that it makes me question his judgement. However, I cannot explain the deflator and needle references.
2. The balls are just barely below what the science expects them to be. What sense does it make to deflate a ball by a trivial amount?
3. I am surprised by the boldness of the claims by their scientific consultants given the tremendous amount of uncertainty. I wonder if they had to go outside of academia to find someone who would be willing to give them what they wanted. What happened to Columbia? I still think the scientific evidence is on our side.
4. That said, I'm not sure what to think of the whole thing anymore.
5. If the two ball guys were doing anything wrong, I would've thought they would've admitted to it and said Brady had nothing to do with it. The fact that they didn't tells me they likely didn't. Yet I still can't explain #1.

I totally agree. I was not trying to imply the Pats are guilty. The Colts could have kept their balls warmer, or inflated them at a lower temp. The Refs measurements could have been systematically off, or the Colts could be full of B.S. about their starting pressure. It just seems very unlikely that this is just totally random variation.
