Amendola is the ping to Edelman’s pong...

Amendola is coming on at just the right time. They really needed a quality 3rd WR and he's good enough to give them just that. He's also a guy who gets open quickly, which is also perfect for them if teams try to get a rush on Brady or try to take Edelman out of the game. I think he continues the hot streak this week against Indy, and he's earned it because they most likely would be out had he not converted that 3rd down with 5 minutes to go against Baltimore, the TD from Edelman gets a'll the press but that play was critical.

I'd say they have real homes wherever they grew up, and have a rental up here because currently they play for the Patriots.

And as the saying goes, nothing lasts forever in the NFL.

But that was a good article- thanks for the link, OP.

Wonder if Edelman was instrumental in bringing Amendola here, as far as giving BB his opinions or otherwise advocating for Amendola.

I doubt it, Edelman was a Free agent and almost didn't return, whereas Amendola appeared to be high on the Patriots free agent list and signed almost immediately. Good read though.

From your link: "Amendola, 25 at the time, was coming off a breakout season in which he led the NFL with 2,364 all-purpose yards."

So I disagree with your first statement - I really believe it has been a combination of bad luck (groin injury, then surgery) and the emergence of a redundant talent in JE, and that Amendola really can become a major cog in this offense.

I agree with you that he really hasn't been worth the $$$$, however.

So here's hoping that he proves me right and you wrong on this - bet you're hoping for it, too.

And yeah, he's a good dude, by all reports. I hope he renegotiates and sticks around.
I am going to be completely honest with you and the board, my gripes were not even about Amendola, they were just me being an ******* and wanting to win a beef because I was dealing with some personal **** and the Internet is not the real world so it was an escape from that. Now that those issues are resolved I have seen the error in my ways and am working to clean up my reputation on the board. I genuinely apologize if I came at you or anyone else, it was redundant and disruptive, totally unnecessary, he is Patriots player and I should have supported him.

That aside I don't love him as a player because he just isn't the type of player I love, I never loved Welker as a player either, I am more inclined to love defensive players. I love Jamie Collins, Chandler Jones, Donta Hightower, etc. I love Brady and Gronkowski obviously, and I love the evolution of Edelman, I'm not sure if not for him growing up before my eyes if I would love him because he like Amendola are more players I like but aren't pumped to watch on Sunday's.

Holy **** dude. Takes a big man to make a post like that, my jaw just hit the floor while reading it. Congrats on getting through a tough time and kudos for being able to admit youre wrong. That's a trademark of sucessful people. Its much easier to just live in denial.

As for Amendola, he needs to show more consistancy, but this is the time of year we would all like to see him play well. Obviously I've been hard on him as well. Called him the white Chad Johnson to many a friend. Eating crow the last few games, hope to eat more. Side note, that third and 6 with about 7 minutes to go in that game was one of the keys plays in the whole game. Looked to be short but broke the tackle and moved the chains. Go get em Danny.

I'm glad you're through your personal **** and I hope it was resolved in a successful manner, it's good of you to admit that, we'll look forward to dealing with the "new" you.

Unfortunately for everyone on this board, the same cannot be said for me. Im officially picking up the slack. The white Chad Johnson better ball out tommorow! No Im only kidding, I understand his role. No negative plays and some tough catches/returns and I'll be satisfied.

His problem has never been a failure to understand the playbook.

I've been there. I usually manage to push myself away from the keyboard when I get too caught up in my own foolishness.

Also, I totally separate the business from the players. Once the deal is made, it's made. You could be making ten cents or 10 million, you still need to catch that pass and you're still an option if you keep focused and in shape despite injuries, problems etc.

Some of the greatest playoff plays have been made by scrubs, or guys who turned around a bad situation and made one opportunity work.

Finally, each season is it's own entity. I'd love to package the intensity of last year with the healthy talent of this year, but we can only play a game at a time. Amendola, because of his issues, might be the most motivated and focused player they have, I don't know. Next year, he might play slot somewhere else and we get a less duplicative of Edelman receiver.

But this is this year, he's playing with energy and a chip on his shoulder and BB will find ways to use him.

I agree, like I said, been down on him almost all year but much of that is because his contract is unjustafiably high for his current role, we all understand that his lack of production stems from being redundant and both Edelman and LaFell are just better, it has nothing to do with Danny being an awful player.

I DO want him to stay on this team, but the contract needs fixing.

I fully agree that his play/value hasn't justified his contract or cap hit.

That said, there have been some interesting discussions here on the forum about how ironic it would be if Amendola make that "one big catch" at some point in the playoffs this year, so I was thinking of that last week when he had 2 touchdowns.

As NE Pride brings up, that 3rd and 6 catch late in the game when he initially appeared short but ended up breaking the tackle to sniff out the first down may have been one of the most important plays of the entire game.

On a side note--Miguel has proposed a solution where Amendola takes a pay cut from 4m to 2m and it actually saves the team more money than cutting him would, so I think we all hope that happens, rather than seeing him move on. At least that's what I'm personally hoping for.

I think Amendola is an elite KR, who can make at least 10 big plays a season in the kicking game. I also think he provides a trustable #3 WR who understands the offense, and he also allows them to flex Edelman out. I would actually like to see him back in 2015, I just would like them to rework his deal, which I think is absolutely possible.

If we keep Edelman, LaFell, and Amendola all in place along with Gronkowski it will be huge for Brady, and if Wright emerges as a legitimate flex TE we will be able to toggle in and out of 2 TE and 3 WR sets. Then add a deep threat in the draft or hope Dobson returns in year 3 and gives us something, this offense would be the best we had since 2007.

I agree, at this point as RayClay said the money is paid the hit against the cap is taken, so the contract is null until the offseason. He is playing well, gives us a real threat in the kicking game, has made some key plays on offense, all that matters is the next 1-2 games, his contract can be discussed after the season is over. His performance in the next few weeks could significantly impact his market value.. If he does what he did last week in the Arizona we could be talking about the Super Bowl MVP, **** he might get a raise...[emoji1]

Speaking of that, what's the deal with Tim Wright? I know that every game is different and the Pats scheme for x, y, or z, but man, he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth lately.

I still think the Pats are one receiver and one TE short of where I'd like them to be on the skill positions on offense. Dobson? Tyms? Boyce? And Wright as the TE? I think their draft goes OL, maybe DL (if Branch isn't retained), but I'd really feel better if Dobson had stepped up.

I do not know what happen with Wright, it seemed as though he was catching on after the Lions game but since then we have seen very little of him. I never expected a whole lot from him in 2014-15, I think he was acquired for next season and beyond.

As far as the draft goes, I think that OL needs to be a priority. I am not sure how it will come together and what Belichick’s plan is. I cannot believe that he would resign Cannon to that contract for a backup role, and I cannot envision him cutting Vollmer.

Edelman really does seem like the guy that everyone on the team wants to be friends with.

I can imagine Gronk rubs a guy the wrong way sometimes, Brady might be too competitive, Slater too quiet, but for whatever reason Edelman is apparently best friends with every guy on the team.

I've been in the anti-Amendola camp for a little bit now too (hell, even as early as the 1st q of the BAL game before he cut off his sleeves!), but that will all be erased if he continues helping us win playoff games. I don't care what we're paying him.

Good insight on Edelman, but I'm not so sure about Slater being quiet, he is one of the team's leaders that spans both sides of the ball. I love watching and hearing him speak and would love to see him go into local politics. He's one of my favorite Patriots.

OK. Well, he looks quiet.
