Here's why I think both of them are wrong.
Tom Brady is widely considered to be the 2nd best quarterback in the league behind Rodgers.
Plenty of NFL fans who aren't necessarily Patriot first fans, who value intangibles and the eye test over stats and the eye test, still believe that he is #1 (Skip Bayless and others fall into this category.)
Regardless of which of these camps is correct, when you consider how much money per year the Patriots are going to be paying him now, cutting him or trading him seems completely asinine and would make no sense. Tom Brady has already received the bulk of his career money from the Patriots. He's basically on a discount price for the rest of his days here. NFL teams do not get the #1 or #2 QB in the league for -what?- 8 million a year?
Isn't Andy Dalton getting paid more money than that?
Flacco is getting 20 million a year. Rodgers is getting 20 million a year. Peyton is getting 20 million a year.
To cut a top 2 QB in the NFL when you're paying him less than half of what hs market value is makes absolutely zero sense.
I know why people are saying it. They have completely INVENTED a fantasy in their head where JAG is an elite QB on a 1st year rookie contract. That dream world is the only thing that could possibly lead to anyone thinking Brady (at his well-below-market cost) is wasted cap in the eyes of our FO.
Sheer dream world.
A reporter asked Belichick if he was going to be evaluating the QB position after the Chiefs game, and Belichick laughed in his face because of how stupid it was.
What else do you need to know?
The conjecture for the sake of filling empty air waves is bogus and wrong and lazy.
