DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION The NFL Draft, Day 1, Round 1, thread

I would have wanted Lee or at least Amaro. We need true weapons and all of our receivers seem good but not great. Not sure how we should feel but it's fun to watch the forum blow up in despair. He could be a stud. Could be a defensive Gronk w/all the injuries.

I still think Lee was the right pick and we passed because we seem to never have faith in drafting top receiving prospects. Small wonder we've never had a home grown stud at WR.

The thing is that most WR prospects take a couple of years to get up to speed, unless you find a gem like Keenan Allen. Brady clearly doesn't have that sort of window. So it makes sense to load up on defense and reduce the pressure on the offense to win games in big situations.

Just my $.02.

I think they had to Easley here if they liked him that much because the Seahawks would have been all over him.

Just reading through some of this thread. If you don't like the pick, fine. But for the "we could have gotten him in the 2nd round" crowd, have you watched this draft? Marcus Smith in the 1st? Bortles at #3 and no other QB for 19 picks? What about this draft so far gives you certainty that ANY player will last?

I think his more of a DE I would have liked Scott Crichton, Dominique Easley is way to slow to the QB but lets hope the kid can add some good dept as a rookie and then turn into a good football player

He's a linebacker.

I've been as scared of Easley's knees as anyone, but that's from a distance. The Patriots worked him out thoroughly and checked him out medically. It reminds me of Rob Gronkowski's broken back (which despite his other injuries, has been fine). That scared me off Gronk as a draft pick, but they had all the info and I didn't.

Easley's first step is electric. He has DT/DE flexibility, and should utterly transform the interior pass rush.

What's there to judge? He's already popped them.

I meant how well they will hold up and how he plays .I know he already popped them.

What is update on his knees? BB know something we don't.

2 Years ago when healthy and with a good QB. Would be the best WR on our team right now talent wise

He also has no hands and body catches. That's why he is falling.

Thank god we didn't take that bust.

I'm warming up to the Easley pick a bit.

I can hear Borges pounding the keys on this pick. Foaming at the mouth with disgust.

Excellent player if his knees hold up. Risky though!

Can we let the kid play before judging his knees and all that.? Iam sure pats did their research ,more than we do.

Nah! Let's just go with the only research he did on Easley's knees is he asked Urban Meyer if the thought Easley could come back from a seconf ACL tear and Meyer said "He came back really fast after the first one." And that was enough research for Belichick.

I trust the combo of Belichick and Caserio. Overall, they have been pretty successful at drafting the last three or four years.

Short of getting Donald I thought Easley was the best inside pass rusher in this draft. It is definitely a need the Pats have lacked and he does spell some relief for Big Vince and Kelly. I love the pick.

The reports I read were kind to Easley. The only concerns are his knees. If they hold up, the Patriots have drafted a player who can be a disruptive force on the DL. It's one of those risk versus reward picks.

I think we can afford to take the risk @ 29. For EXACTLY what the defense needs. Maybe I'm in the minority. Draft position not ideal per se, but not a huge reach considering he was mocked and talked about heavily with the hypothetical trade back pick in the 2nd.

what are your thoughts on easely?

Is there a player the Pats could have picked, or a trade that they could have made that he would be?

I meant how well they will hold up and how he plays .I know he already popped them.

He's got two popped ACLs, so we already know how they held up. They didn't. Now we have to hope that a pair of surgically repaired ACLs don't go boing in the night. This was a needless risk to take in the first round.
