I am for this signing too as long as it is under 2M (which it sounds like it might be) assuming he is here to be our starting SS.

However, does he have any experience playing SS or are we just projecting how his physical abilities fit the roll?

I would be much more on board with this is I could know how many snaps he played at the SS position if any.

Why would he be relatively cheap? Just curious. And what was his suspension for? Peds? And next time it's a year or life?

He is in stage 3 substance abuse. It was suppose to be a calender year but he got it reduced to what will be 13 games. He was in a weird position failed drug test in 2006(pot). He missed drug test after when he was not in the NFL. Came back in 2011 was informed he was now in stage 3 cause of the missed tests when not in the league. Then last yr failed a drug test(again pot) and was suspended one year.

Yeah, I think Collins has a really bright future, and I'd love for it to come as more than a TE cover guy. If adding Browner does nothing more than free up Collins to blitz more, then I'm all for it.

Collins is an athletic freak and playmaker...I'm excited to see him this season and adding revis will only help him. Oh man! I can't sleep! Got revis, browner coming in..it's like a sweet, sweet patriots bliss

Honestly if we can make it happen I want to see two more moves in FA:

- 1. Sign Edelman to the deal we initially offered (doesn't seem like his market is huge)

- 2. Sign Browner as SS would give us a big enforcer type who can own man coverage situations (imagine that secondary of Revis, Dennard, Ryan, McCourty, Browner)

- Sign Blount

- Sign Woodyard and Allen if there is anything left, but these aren't priorities.

Address OG, TE, DLine in the draft.

If we can't get Wilfork's cap number down cut him, extend McCourty and Gost to create cap space, and have Connolly take a pay cut.

Don't let him leave without a contract!

blounts going to denver for vet min to be with talib. bank on it.

I'm guessing you missed YESTERDAY around here...it was a little different...

Does 2005 in his practice time with the Broncos count? Other than that, it's a projection based on his declining effectiveness in coverage on WRs last season, willingness to hit and tackle (just ask Welker), and of course size. He's more than likely not playing CB on a good team again. In terms of coverage at the RCB spot, the Seahawks improved when Browner got hurt.

I can't see it. Peyton would never put up with a power running game like that. He needs to be able to audible to a shotgun pass at any (and every) given time, and Blount doesn't give him that flexibility.

Well I guess we're lucky the Broncos game is in Foxboro then..... :singing:

he would be crazy to not come here on a one year deal to play next to Revis and then go get paid big money from some other team

I would very much have Browner here, even though I understand that he is somewhat limited. I don't expect him to be our other outside CB, but rather as a "wildcard". Someone on a week to week basis you can have take out a receiving target he matches up well on. He's excellent in press coverage against big WR's & TE[s but a liability against smaller quick ones. That's why I think he's a wildcard. One week he can play outside on a bigger slower WR. The next week against a TE in certain man coverages. And then not much if there isn't a favorable match up.

As one person said it, He'd allow us NOT to depend on Collins to cover TE's all the time, and thus be available to use his explosive speed as a rusher more often.

BB - He's not going to cost you $1MM this season. Make him another in the long line of problem children who have come to NE to regain their reps. Don't let him leave without and offer. Thank you.

However IF he does. Maybe ACromartie might want to reunite with his buddy for a year.

One thing to remind people of, don't get TOO excited, he's not a Patriot yet. There is a giant obstacle in our way:

Gus Bradley.

He's already started the Seattle to Jacksonville pipeline with Red Bryant, Chris Clemons is close to a deal and Walter Thurmond is or was in town. His players apparently love him and Jacksonville could very well be one of those other 2 unnamed teams he plans to meet with.

I am however encouraged that we are his first visit.

Just a question that occurred to me.

As I understand it, he's suspended for 4 games, and loses his paycheck for another 4. My question is, how does that work on the cap. Say the Pats sign him to a $1MM contract. Does he count $1MM against the cap, $750,00 against our cap or $500,000??? Miguel, any insights???

Obviously we can never know these things (unless they murder someone), but Browner seems to have a decent rep and is well liked by his teammates. I bet he is everything Belichick wants in a player, but he enjoys weed, just like Faulk.

The signing would be risky, but I believe that Browner can be worth way more than what he'll get signed for. I want New England to offer more than one year. Three years would be awesome. I really don't think $1,000,000 for one year will get things done.

The Seattle to Jacksonville pipeline? How dare you even mention this, sir. I am outraged! You seem to forget the illustrious New England to Jacksonville pipeline that has already been established for several years. Have you forgotten Terrance Wheatley? Taylor Price? Brandon Deaderick? Kyle Love? That's just a sampling of the fine talent from New England to find it's way to Jacksonville via this pipeline.

The Jacksonville pipeline................

Nothing against the cap for the first four games (no pay, no play, no cap hit)... next four he gets paid(against the cap) but the money is sent to NFL in form of fine.

The big advantage.... extra roster spot for 1st four games (Roster exemption)
