There are some beasts at TE coming out in the draft

I'm too angry and upset at the Gronk situation so i will not say anymore, however i will say there are some almost can't miss guys at his position that we can add on top of Gronk for next season that would be spectacular to watch in our offense.

Amaro, Ebron, Sefarian-Jenkins are only the cream of the crop and any of them would be huge for Tom.

P.S. Aaron Hernandez is a piece of [expletive]

Thanks for posting this thread. I've been a fan for many years......loved Ben Coates....Graham...Watson .....

the loss of AH and Gronk is sickening when I think of the potential LOST

There would have been a DEFINITE championship win with those two and the receivers/offense unit we currently have.

I hope this thread lives on....and people chime in and we hopefully draft/sign some talent with Gronk when he heals.

Tom needs his targets.

Life is unfair and I hate the Mannings.

Amen brother, the football gods just haven't wanted us to win the way we have lost Gronk in the post season.

This kid's got another year to go, but I like him a lot. 6'7 & 260lbs.

sometimes hate, and the past makes your stronger, you can see the rage in his play.

Love Brian Volger, but not all 6'7 & 260lbs are made alike. Graham is good because he cant really ever beat his demons. Had a pretty bad life, but took the right way to express his anger, I think. Grahams probably is never going to be happy or satisfied with what he does, and thats what drives him. You could have a 6ft1 TE with the same life, and it would push him to be great, like sharp. Size doesnt always make the player.
Grahams going to kill himself to be great. The size and speed is just a plus.

Not that picking guys with messed up lifes is ethical, but I do try to look at the guys stories in the draft. As soon as I read Grahams I knew he would have what it takes to lose, and get better. He had no where else to go or an option to fail.
Brian Volgers life is pretty sweet, so hes 50/50.

Actually, I'd rather sign Dennis Pitta or Pettigrew than draft a TE

is that even likely?

I would also prefer to go the Vet FA route. I've always been a fan of Pettigrew, I thought he was a beast coming out of Oklahoma State. He was the best blocking TE I had seen in college football until Michael Williams came along. I really don't think the Detroit scheme suits him very well and a change of scenery could do him the world of good. Use him mainly as a blocker and on shorter/intermediate routes instead of the heavy vertical Detroit offense and I think he would do well.

I'm also hoping Mark Harrison makes the move to TE to fill the Hernandez role. If he can do that adequately, Pettigrew as the #2 TE and Gronk comes back healthy and I think its a solid group. I don't want to go back to having a heavy reliance on our TE's because there is too much downside if anything goes wrong. If we can have a good pass catching balance between WR, TE and our RB's I think we are poised to have an excellent offense yet again.

Another TE or two would be great. We also need some OL guys, and a DT.

People want Pitta to complement Gronk even though he's coming off a major injury and has had other injuries throughtout his career? Seems contradictory to me. Anyway, there's practically no chance Baltimore lets Pitta walk in FA. Not to mention, if he somehow did become available, some team other than the Pats will throw good money at him.

Guys like Scott Chandler would be the options in FA. Remember BB loves to sign guys that have hurt the Pats before and Chandler has played some great games against NE.

I must admit, the Mark Harrison conversion piqued my curiosity some time ago. His size and athleticism is something that is particularly attractive. Whether or not that can translate to an NFL field is the next question.

One way or another, the TE position will certainly be addressed.

There will be some options in free agency, the draft, and also even UDFA's who aren't selected.

As far as Gronk goes, I think we're looking at the exact same situation as this past summer. He will most likely need to miss training camp and then get into football shape over the first month or so of the regular season. I don't find this timetable unreasonable, as it would mean that he'd be about 7-8 months into his total recovery after surgery. I'm not personally seeing too many scenarios where he'd come back sooner--although anything's obviously possible.

We can't count on gronk to stay healthy so we need a Back up plan

No doubt the Pats need another TE (or two) but they're going to be using their top picks on D and O-linemen next draft. Their depth/talent level there needs to be addressed.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the case. I would expect a TE to be picked somehwere between Day 1 and Day 2 (depending on what underclassmen come out in the draft).

Ridley might conceivably (but probably wouldn't) fetch a second rounder in a trade. Definitely not a first, absolutely no chance. Third rounder is the highest we could reasonably expect.

How much did the colts give up for Trent Richardson? We should be able to get twice that for ridley

There are only so many suckers willing to give up a #1 for someone like Trent Richardson. Ridley is twice as good, but there may not be any GM even half as stupid.

Belichick has no problems using high picks for TE, he is on record as saying the first rund is where you get the supreme athletes and it takes one to be a great TE. Guys who are that big and athletic are hard to come by so i wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they took a guy like Amaro if he is still on the board. I am less sold on Sefarian-Jenkins and Ebron but will follow the draft process and it's possible my mind will change on them. Tuitt will most likely be gone if he declares but i thought the Seymour analogy was appropriate, that was the first thing I thought of when I read the analysis of him, i think he's a perfect fit for this team because he could play inside in eh 4-3 and the end in the 3-4. Overall i do think it is going to be TE or DL, with a possible nod to a Mankins like choice, a nasty talented college OT who would fit at OG.

some amaro and late pick for lyerla.... if hes still around late why not
