honestly though

cheap shots are ok and forgiven as long as you apologize after the game...just ask marcus cannon....he's one smart dude

I bagged on Cannon the other night too, so I'm not sure what drunken point you think you're making there.

Calling for players to try and injure other players is disgusting, period, and he can trot out any stupid rationale he wants but it won't change that.

Targeting a weakness and an illegal hit are 2 different things.

I never said anything about a blatant foul, but there's nothing wrong with taking the time to emphasize a soft spot ... Anyone who's ever been in the scrum or in the bottom of a pile will understand

I'd think after seeing him get taken out of the game by other teams when he was here, we'd know how to do it ourselves.

Also why is LaQuan Williams still on the tweeter feed?

I wish we hit Marshall even harder he's the only guy I hate on the NFL network. He still can't get over the fact that we beat them in '01. Also he has the biggest ego i have ever seen. On his podcast earlier this year he referred to Reggie Bush as Marshall 'esque

I agree. The big question is if Talib is good to go because you can't do this without him on Thomas and I'd feel a lot better if Dennard was on Decker. Decker vs Arrington is a really bad matchup for the Pats. I think they would be better off putting Ryan on him and kicking Arrington inisde. Julius Thomas is also a bad matchup for any type of man coverage for the Pats.
I think you will see a lot of zone.

I'm sure BB knows exactly how to shut down Wes Welker. Having the personnel to do it, and having them execute in any one particular game are the bigger factors here.

Not only does he know what to do but he has done it. The last time he was faced with the problem he said that since he couldn't stop him he signed him, and it worked for 6 years. Now he will have to find another way to get it done.

I'm a bit worried about stopping Welker. We have no Mayo and we can't put the safety near the box because they need to support the CBs with Thomas and Decker or worry about Thomas. BB will have to play a lot of nickel and with no denard, Welker could eat up our man coverage. I expect Payton to come out early with quick WR screens to Decker and Thomas to force the safeties to be on the outside. It's a very tough matchup with our banged up defense.

I agree, Manning took apart the Chef's when they tried to go man on him.
He didn't take them apart. It was the worst game of the season for him and the offense.

The thing is that if we play a great game we are going to give up 18 catches for 200 yards to those 4. They average 22 for 290.

Its not about this virtual handwringing of 'how do you stop them' because its the NFL in 2013 and no defense stops any teams passing game.

The real difference is coming up with plays that disrupt drives. We will not cover everyone well on every play. Maybe not an ANY play because thats the way it works in the NFL now, its unrealistic to have that expectation.

The reality is that defense is about finding a play or 2 that kills a drive as often as you can. The best measure of the success of a defense is the number of negative plays they deal to an offense (negative meaning incomplete passes, short runs, in addition to lost yardage, turnovers etc). Its about making it difficult for them to score not shutting them down.

We need to limit the run in this game, to the extent that it doesn't create down and distance situations that put extra pressure on the defense. We need to take away the easy plays they live off of, the short passes that are easy to complete, and result in YAC. We need to make them earn the yardage by taking it in big chunks. Make Manning sit in the pocket long enough to have to throw it 30 yards downfield and give the rush a chance to get to him. If he can consistently make that throw and the receviers can get open in that part of the field, we lose. But there is a much better chance of winning that way than to let him throw 3 yard passes to receivers off of picks who will run for 8-10 more almost every time.

I agree, but since we lost Wilfork and Kelly we are in the bottom ten of yards before contact. Hopefully we can tackle well and get some turnovers. In addition the WRs need step up and hopefully we can with this shootout.

That's not saying much, they put up 27 and were in control the whole way from what i could tell. They need to disrupt them at the line as much as possible but those corners are going to need help over the top, Welker can move the chains but Thomas, Thomas, and Decker have been killing teams with big plays and that's what they have to shut down. Limit the drives and big plays, get turnovers, and force the Bronco's to earn every inch. This is a big challenge but i love the fact that they played one of the best defenses in football last week and face the best offense this week, nothing could help them get ready for the post season better than these kinds of games do.

What i would really love to see is the Patriots just dominate TOP and keep Manning on the sidelines watching. People can rip on Ridley all they want but I would like nothing more than to watch the Patriots just chew up clock with him running the ball 30 times and Amendola and Vereen playing big roles in long time consuming drives. there's no better way to contain QB's like Brady and Manning than by limiting their drive opportunities, and I think that's once again the Patriots best chance to beat the Bronco's with Manning at QB.

I think they need to be willing to give up traditional 'big plays' ie long passes, and take away the short stuff that they have been living on.

I find the 'keep them on the sidelines' concept very overrated. All you are doing by eating clock is reducing the possessions BOTH teams have. If you play a dangerous offense that scores on half their drives, you have to keep up with them whether is 7 drives or 14 each. The key is not eating clock, its putting points on the board. No matter how long you hold the ball if you don't score, you are in the same boat, just as if you do, its the same whether it takes 30 seconds or 6 minutes, unless you are in a situation where you defense has worn down.

He didn't take them apart. It was the worst game of the season for him and the offense.

It's very telling when that is considered the worst game of the season for you and your offense due to the fact that you hand it off for 2 short yardage scores instead of throwing it for TD's; yet you still put up numbers like these, have another RB rush for 80 yards, and almost 2 more WR's who have 100 yard days apiece :

Manning--323 yards 60% completion 1 TD (O INT/0 sacks)

Red Zone effeciency 3/4 27 total offensive points

TD's in the first 3 quarters while it was still a game. Ran out the clock with running game and a FG in the 4th quarter.

Considering the fact it was the KC Chiefs and their #1 defense, I'd have to say that he "took them apart" pretty nicely. The only thing missing was basically another TD pass from Manning, which he could have had on either of the 2 short run TD drives.

How about we legally hit Manning in the ankles?
