OK, Time To Move On - Many CB's and Safeties Still On The Market

Troy Brown says the players will move on, so I guess we'll have to as well.

Many good to solid CB's still on the market, including Talib, but other interesting players as well like Grimes, Cason, Jammer, Winfield, Smith and Lewis. And the word is the market is low, not hot at all, so maybe we could get 2 of these guys?

Safeties also have plenty of good players unsigned: Reed, Phillips, Rhodes (cut today), Wilson, Delmas, Huff, even Woodson. There are several more potential diamond in the rough types further down the list, and supposedly the safety market is even more depressed than for CB. A number of guys from both groups will end up signing for some shockingly low money.

Check out the espn FA tracker, easiest and most up to date one to use. You'll be surprised how many players, good players, remain in search for a team.

With all the cap $$ the Pats still have we can only hope BB has a few of these players in mind.

Market seems to be nice for CB's too. DRC was one of the big names aside from the Sean Smith's and he got $5M. Which hopefully means guys like Asomoghu/Winfield can be had in the $3M range, which I would do.

I'd imagine safeties like Pollard, Woodson, Rhodes, and Wilson could be had for even less than $3M

I agree on the first two. That should solidify the defense.

Ideally we could use the remaining money to pickup a 'boundary' WR who can also return Punts and Kickoffs. Perhaps they will need to pick up two guys to fill those holes.

The CB market has worked in the Patriots' favor. Hopefully that will make it easier to retain their #1 CB target this offseason - Aqib Talib.

As it stand, the Patriots have Alfonzo Dennard, Ras-I Dowling, Malcolm Williams, and potentially Devin McCourty at Cornerback. Ideally, the team would like for McCourty to settle in at FS. Alfonzo Dennard can't be assumed to be available for the season at this point in time, Ras-I is fragile and Williams is a JAG Special Teamer.

In short, Patriots have essentially nobody at CB. If Talib is lost, I will be seriously worried about the defense.

I can't believe that they're not aware of the meager resources currently at CB. I'm sure there's a plan A, plan B and plan C in place. My only hope is that none of those plans involve primarily the draft because A) I want them to go in another direction in the draft and B) the exceptional value of the DB market in this free agency.

I would like to see Talib + another CB and S, I would prefer that the S be a SS, that would leave us with McCourty and the new guy (Pollard?) as the starters at S with Gregory, Wilson and Ebner as backups. At CB Talib + New guy as starters with Dennard in the slot and Arrington and Dowling as the reserves.

could do here with a full off-season & TC; evaluate Glas-IR (for the last time, likely); supplement

Seriously? Putting the trans tag on Talib would have cost over $9M. In this market, he's not going to get much more than that over two years. Franchising him would have cost something like double what he was worth for a year.

You used to be the guy who used 20/20 hindsight to say what Belichick should have done better. Now you're the guy that has the advantage of hindsight and is still completely wrong.

There are still a lot of CBs left on the market and we will get at least one of them. If you don't consider any of these guys difference makers then who that has already signed would you consider a difference maker? None of the guys already signed are elite talents and I don't think any of them are significantly better than who is still available.

Even I think the list is dwindling but get real the best corner on the market (talent wise) is still available and oh he played on this team last year so they have the inside track to get him.

People are losing their freaking MINDS on here. Chris Houston is a #2 masquerading as a #1. DRC is soft as charmin. Sean Smith is a good cover corner, but has stone hands so those big difference making plays aint coming from him. McKelvin signed during the tampering period... as in we couldn't sign him if we wanted.
