Rappaport: Welker still waiting for the Pats' first offer

This shows you don't know what you are talking about. Welker was making things happen with significantly lesser QBs in Miami. Claiming that his success is solely the result of being on the Patriots is about as ignorant a statement as there can be.

Do yourself a favor and get a clue. Wes hasn't said ANYTHING to the media. It's all been "sources". Most of which are "anti-Patriots" (Breer, Rapoport,Borges). They don't need actual FACTS. They regurgitate someone else's reports, but change key things to make it sound like they have something no one else has. This was show yesterday with Rapoport essentially copying Karen Guregian's 2 hour old tweet.

700 yards equal making something happen? What does that make Lloyd who had 1400 yards with a horrendous quarterback ? Acting like he was some stud before this system is a joke and even if he was that doesn't mean anything when he got here it was entirely different from Miami.

What do you call Hernandez who has had plenty of important drops?

Oh, wait. I keep forgetting. You've gone to whining about everything ever since they got rid of Moss..

I actually wanted them to get rid of moss? Sorry that your lumping me in with others. Not whining about everything actually just the same thing. I said I'd like him for 7 million not more he isn't worth it

Sorry, but Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman are not in the same league as Wes Welker. I love how some fans are starting to drink the value Kool Aid that the Patriots like to trot out there.

This team is on the cusp of going back to the Superbowl. Losing a guy who catches 115 balls a year + can stay on the field unlike Gronkowski, Hernandez, Amendola + Edelman is not a net positive.

Welker had a lot of interest during the tampering period. Teams are waiting to see how things break. Again, it's just like the Moss situation was in '08.

Again, if that were the case, there would have been rumors (there were rumors preceding Moss in '08). There's pretty much none up to now, so while he may have gotten a great deal of attention according to @mikegiardi, teams are simply not biting. They might be nibbling, but they're just not biting.

I think he's gotten attention and other teams are offering pretty close to the ballpark the Patriots offer is in. And Welker is disappointed and wants to squeeze out some more money to save face. Bill has him right where he wants him.

+1000

Welker's proven and terminator like durability is insignificant to some poeple.

Would Swope be a good Z replacement? Then keep Lloyd, draft or sign an undrafted free agent X developmental player or Andre Holmes, then beef up the defensive backfield.

It was the case, and it's been reported. It was also the case that the report said that teams didn't believe that Welker would leave the Patriots, so they were waiting to see how it all shook out. I'd link it, but it was a radio report.

I hope you are right, but I just don't see this working out anymore. I think the market for him is soft, but not quite as soft as you're stating.

Belichick isn't going to budge. That much is more than obvious. Welker is pissed about that fact and could end up taking similar money from someone else.

Or we could see another team pony up a bit more to secure his services, which is what I think will happen.

It's possible that the market isn't quite as soft as you'd think and that Welker was still waiting to see if Belichick would up his offer any. Now that he realizes it won't happen we could very well see him depart.

I don't see how Welker stays and saves face at the same time, and pride can certainly play into this, not to mention feelings of betrayal.

Given the number of different rumors that have surrounded these negotiations, I don't see how you—or me or anyone else, for that matter—can honestly state anything about BB's or WW's negotiating positions, motivations, feelings of betrayal, etc.

The only thing we can say for sure is that, as of yet, Welker has not received an offer from the Patriots that he deems acceptable.

Why would you put that as your sig....
Normally I'd have you PM me about something off topic, but since its got Welker in it, I suppose it has some relevance being this thread's about him.

To me, the Patriots have been beating themselves. The Welker drop in XLVI wasn't the only one. In that same game, Hernandez was hit in the numbers and though it was a littler trickier to catch Branch was hit in the hands. The WR corps played terribly that night, and they've been playing badly. It doesn't take a lot to admit the offense needs improving. So, from my perspective, maybe losing Welker is a step forward. Especially if he's asking for a lot.

The lyric is just from an old song I like, but seems at least slightly relevant.

I think swope would be a great fit for the Z ...... with an added dimension as a viable deep threat.

let em all walk and, get robert woods in round 2 and swope in round 3.

We can also safely say that any counter-proposals Team Welker have submitted to the Patriots have been rejected.

Welker hasn't received an offer from the Patriots in 2 yrs that he deems acceptable, and Welker's agent specifically stated last summer that the 2/16 extension deal had been lowered. To me, that hints of some lowballing offers, or at least offers that Belichick feels are appropriate for his services.

I agree with you that we shouldn't take anything that we're hearing as gospel truth of course, but it would certainly appear to me as though Belichick isn't budging at all, nor is he going to. You may see it differently.

If that's the case and they are lowballing him, he very well could end up taking some of these feelings into account, hence his "leap of faith" comment from last summer when he signed the tag. I would agree with you that my opinion is based sheerly on speculation.

Yep. He gave back to improve the team and although it is still really really early right now they are sitting on their hands.

Silver's killing the Patriots, and they probably deserve it. Unless this is all some bizarre Kabuki play where both sides are in on the real and agreed upon deal, this is inexcusable.

Or they are in negotiations with free agents and don't go running to the nearest media member and tell them who they are talking to and request that the player and his agent do the same.

Unless we know what Welker's expectations are, can we say this definitively?

How do you know they're "sitting on their hands"? Maybe they're working on a ton of things at once, including Welker, but nothing yet has materialized.
