OT: Good Luck To Everyone During the Storm

Just cleared the driveway for the second time shoveling with my son. The stuff's pretty light so it wasn't that bad, but I'm guessing by morning it will be a little tougher. It's definitely coming down pretty good. Just glad we still have power. I don't own a generator, so I'm just hopeful we make it through unscathed.

Needless to say best wishes to everyone overnight and stay safe :smow:

Ian, I hear Florida is nice this time of year. How's that potential move looking now? :D

Lol, my wife and daughter are still joking about it - but I've already been told a few times that this sort of thing "doesn't happen down there." ;)

PSNH and Unitil are reporting no outages in NH yet. It's doubtful that will hold.

I don't like your negativity Frezo ;)

Me either. I'm gonna cook pork chops before something bad happens. :hungry:

Ok, storm story time....

I looked outside and decided that it was time to crack out the new snowthrower for the first time this evening. It's only been used once before, so I run through the manual to make sure I remember how it works. I ran the checklist and tried starting it for about 10 minutes, but it wouldn't start. While I'm outside trying to get it started, about 6 branches fell down into my neighbor's driveway. I decided to give the machine a rest in order to avoid any flooding or other problems.

After about 5 minutes, I ran the checklist and tried it again, but it still wouldn't start. I decided to bring it into the garage, close the door and let the snowthrower warm up inside before trying again. Just at that moment, there was a crack and a thump. A large branch from a tree had fallen onto the exact spot where the snowthrower had been before I pulled it into the garage, about 6 inches from the house/garage.

So, I can't get the damned snowthrower to work yet, but at least it's still in one piece and I can try again. :thumb:

It sounds like it could have fallen on you??

I guess it could have. I wasn't thinking about that. I was just happy the snowthrower wasn't ruined.

You must have had a Gronk moment.

Snow has stayed of the heavy, sticks to the shovel, pain in the ass as well as to the back variety just west of Boston. Shoveling the dogs out onto the deck and patio periodically and was pissed that I'd finish and there was another quarter of an inch already. Those were the good old days. Last trip out after about 90 minutes...friggin snow was 6" over the sliding door step. One of those damn bands went through and dropped about 8" in an hour and a half...on top of the 6 inches I'd been keeping up with nicely. Almost lost the older dog on the pee trip. Cairns only stand about a foot tall... They keep promising the temp will drop 10 degrees like that and it will all be fluff thereafter. Too late!

That sticky stuff sucks. Nice, dry, and fluffy up here. I'm thinking about using my wife's blowdryer to clean the driveway in the morning.:D

just a little snow people...come on

I just measured in my back yard in Trumbull, CT. OVER 20 INCHES OF SNOW!!:twitch:

300,000 without power in MA.

most down in the cape area where the winds are higher and snow heavier..out here in worcester snow is fluffy

i wanted to go measure...but with the wind it's impossible. One area has 20.then next 8

SE NH is all fluff too. So far no reported outages except 191 in Epping. Hopefully we can skate through this. Eastern MA will need help restoring power.

I just had a light blink. :(

My lights have been flicker a few times every hour for past 3 hours..but nothing yet. I have a digital surge protector on my TV and every time the lights flicker it jumps to 123 volts
