Gronk: arm injury

Easily could shave weeks off. I broke my wrist as a teenager and 4-6 week prognosis healed in 2 weeks.

Good comedy. Thanks for that.

If there's a legitimate question to be asked here, it's why Gronk is on the PAT unit in the first place, but even then I don't think it's crazily irresponsible like some people probably will. Belichick puts the best players out there, and that's all there is to it. If injury risk is increased as a result, then so be it. He doesn't coach from a position of fear, and the positives of that outweight the negatives by a pretty wide margin.

well, the response to THAT would be, why would you want a lesser blocker on the PAT team???...you'd have to have THAT player picked out from the roster during preseason and practice him all year for THAT specific job...look, the question is ridiculous...suppose Gronk is pulled early in the 4th quarter from the starting lineup...he STILL plays the PAT squad...what part of this escapes even the most ignorant of football fans??????????????

I just knew this would bring out the kneejerk cry babies who can't live without some kind of hysterical drama to launch into...it's FOOTBALL....Gronk could have just as easily got hurt in the 1st quarter...or the first half...when they took the lead..."we got the lead??? PULL GRONK NOW!!!!!"...just totally, ridiculously moronic...

You're the idiot. I know when he was injured. I saw the replay.
And that somehow changes this discussion???
Why was an injured all year Gronk on the field for ANY reason with 3 mins left in a blowout?? Why was bad ankle Welker back to receive a punt in the 4th qtr?? Was was Brady in at all. Why was I seeing Vince bouncing around when the Patriots had 40 + on the board??? This has been an issue many folks have had with Belichick for years. He exposes his key players to injury by leaving them in games far too long. Was only a matter of time before it bit him in the arse. He owns it.
Unless you provide an example, I'm going to assume that no player has gotten hurt on a PAT attempt in recent history. Given that, why not use Gronkowski on a play where there has historically been no chance of injury?

BB does use more guys from his starting O and D on ST's than most do. Why do you think Pats ST look so much better than most of the teams they face? Did you really think the 42nd guy on our roster was that much better than the 42nd guy on another roster?

That said, I wonder if surgically repaired means they have to insert pins and screws and the like. If so, that would sound like a pretty severe break, maybe something like a spiral fracture.

Obviously we have no idea how long he'll be out. I read 4-6 weeks. Let's say 6 weeks. We are currently in week 11. That would take him all the way through the end of the regular season. He'd return in time for the playoffs. The good thing is that a broken forearm is not like an elbow or shoulder or ankle. He can run freely with a broken forearm (I've broken my radius three times) and stay in shape. He should be pretty fresh for the playoffs anyway, and be a monster when he returns.

Stinks for now, but I think they'll get by with what they have.

Belichick better keep Brady in an incubator until Thursday. If Brady gets the flu before Thursday's game, it's on Belichick. Belichick will OWN IT!

Good comedy? Ok...

I guess what I learned while studying for Orthopedic Sports Medicine before changing to Cellular Biology was wrong... Guess I better go inform my professors.

heh...some guy is on the post game show going ballistic about Gronk being in the game...Fred and Steve are torturing him...DeOssie calls him Roberta...and both former NFL PLAYERS are calmly explaining why this question is sub mongoloidal

Sub mongoloid is an apt description of Fred and Steve.

Rapsheet.....

Good.

Get the surgery ASAP and let the thing heal.

I don't hold out hope that he can't play against the Texans. We still haven't heard an official word. If its a fracture and a pin can set it.....it might heal in 2 weeks.

Either way, Hernandez will be back this week.

Anyone who can't handle having players from their favorite team injured should find another sport to follow.

Question, "in which of the major team sports are fans most likely to ask about injuries as soon as the game is over?"

I heard that the Pats euthanized Gronk as of 10:00pm tonight. They had to put him down, but they saved his collar and his bowl. :nooo:

Then they hit the button on their machine below Gilette Stadium and another model of Gronk walked off the production line ready to go.

Or you could realize that healing rates for children are significantly faster than for adults, but that Gronk would be an adult in this case.

Just a thought.

Agree.

Its football, injuries happen. He could have broke it while screwing around in the locker room during the post game celebration......he just happened to hurt himself during a PAT.

There are times when it's a legitimate question to ask why a player is in the game. A PAT isn't really one of them, IMO.

BB plays his starters on special teams.

Tom Brady does not come out of blowouts.

Nothing new here.

A little off topic but it is amazing how the pro game chews guys up. Remember when Gronk came into the league and looked indestructible? Kept takin' monster hit after monster hit and kept coming back for more. Eventually it catches up to all of them though and the more your are exposed to the big hits, the more you get eaten up. Although it might just be his hip, the Gronk of today does not at all look like the Gronk of just a couple seasons ago.

It is part of the reason why we love the guy but you almost wonder if BB has to find a way to protect Gronk from himself a bit if he is going to continue to be such an integral part of the Pats offense.

Were you playing in an NFL football game 2 weeks later?

I was referring more to games when everything is sewn up, but Brady does come out of blowouts, and so do other players.

We were actually having this debate earlier in a different thread for a different reason, but the answer is the same. It's because special teams are a third of the game.
