NFL Week 2 Games Thread: Thursday Night, Bears at Packers

Don't rule out Detroit. With AP back to his All Day status, the Vikings could create a headache or two in the NFC North. That division could be an interesting battle of attrition.

Yes, yes it could.

To be honest, neither Green Bay, nor Chicago's offenses scare me. Both looked pretty poor tonight.

As to who will beat who, I usually don't make such predictions until after week 6 or 7 when things tend to shake out a bit. Until then, most of the teams are dancing around, trying to determine their identity, and see where everyone else is headed.

Neither is very scary right now. Rodgers and his receivers don't look like they're on the same page all the time and I still see a lot of drop-itis on the part of these vaunted Packer receivers. Cutler? LOL.

We'll see what the Packer Off looks like come mid-season, but right now in the NFC, SF looks head and shoulders above everyone else.

There is always an excuse for cutler .From JMcD trading him after he threw tantrums and refused to even speak to the owner to him not having any receivers to mike martz throwing too much . They acquire marshall and suddenly everyone calls them an offensive juggernaut.

It's fun watching Cutler fail so hard. I can't think of a bigger douche in the league.

he was , is and will remain

a pile of ****

I've been saying it since last season during all the "can the Packers go undefeated talk." They're an over hyped, over rated football team.
The Bears lost that game, the much vaunted Packer offense certainly didn't win it. FG, Fake FG, FG, FG. Rodgers didnt get a TD until after an interception is what was the verge of being garbage time. 4 INTs? Really Cutler?

I seriously don't see how the Packers could have lost that game, and they played pretty terrible. Put them up against a team that didn't play to self destruct tonight and titletown would be 0-2.

Any of the AFC division winners from last year would dominate the Packers decisively.

They're not going anywhere near the Superbowl.

the packers, even before this game and before last year, drop ALOT of passes

and their oline still sucks

and they've never had what anyone would call a good running game in recent years

Mike Martz is not with the Bears this year. Mike Tice is the O.C. for the Bears now.

Cmon...

the same Mike tice that began the implosion of the Vikings? The Mike Tice that got nailed for scalping SB tix? This seems akin to hiring Valentine as GM. Not quite as bad given he is simply the OC...how desperate were they? Why not just print out an entire madden playbook and get some darts out...

Surely this would be more succesful than seven step drop, lock on marshall,, the hell with the double team, check down to Jeffrey, also double teamed, if you avoid the sack, use that laser rocket arm to try and force one into coverage. After all, you are Jay *****ing Cutler, d best respect:bricks:

Down two scores, eight minutes (give or take) left, hand it to Mike Bush Good call coach.

Big disappointment. I was really looking forward to seeing a Thursday night game on NFL after Cablevision/Comcast finally came to terms with the network and I could access NFL. Bears v Packers at Lambeau - what a feast. But no! This was a real turkey, uncooked, ungarnished, unprepared.

Then I felt so disgusted at my own masochism for staying to watch the whole game that I went to bed before reading the game thread on this board.

I don't think the Bears could have been worse. Admittedly the refs were giving all the favors to the packers, and losing Forte was a crippling blow, but damn that was one poor OL, one sad sack of WRs and I can add nothing to what has already been said about Scuttler, he more than anyone sank USS Da-Bears. Marshall looked old, couldn't get separation, no burst and no hands. The Oline cant blame their QB entirely for holding onto the ball so long, as they often collapsed and lost the pocket at first rush.

The Packers D were made to look good, especially with no run game (why did Chicago give up so early on Bush), Mathews looked Olympian, and his stats will forever be bloated this season because of it. I think there was a good chance the refs might have reversed the call on a couple of interceptions if they weren't at Lambeau, but then again Scuttler deserved to be picked on all but one (when Bennett did deer in the headlights instead of coming back to help his QB).

While Da Bears missed Forte, the Pack, and particularly Rogers, missed Jennings. But the fact that made me realize how poorly their offense played was their average field position at the start of their drives (34 yard line average over 13 possessions). Yikes!!! it included starting three times in Chicago territory and a couple close to half way. And yet they needed a fake field goal to get their first TD and an interception at the Chicago 26 to serve Rogers' single TD on a plate.

Rogers is still victim to believing the media hype that no-one has played the position better. He made several bad throws and could have been intercepted once or possibly twice more. Yet it was never his fault and mirrored Scuttler in blaming others and calling out the offending players. When he did advance the ball it was not his exceptional talents so much as good schemes and execution, most of his completions were to wide open targets. His stats didn't suffer too much overall, but when you have that field position advantage you should be able to do more.

I should have turned it off when Rogers made that cheap call for the 12 men on the field penalty, which he would have ignored if he hadn't thrown an incompletion (since it wasn't shown again I cant remember if it was a poor pass, poor catch or both). Given the closeness of the call, the guy was crossing the line at the time of the snap, and I have to believe that Rogers was focused on getting the ball from his center rather than looking to the sideline. Consequently he must have been guessing the player's position and gambled with his team's challenges and timeouts. Or he could, of course, just be massaging his stats (1 less attempt and incompletion).

As many have said the Lombardi is not going through either of these teams this year. I hope the Giants v Panthers game next week is more entertaining.

It's because Cutler looks like a big manchild. Any time you see him without his helmet, he looks like a pudgy 10 year old who someone just stole his candy. I think it is the mothering instinct of the media showing through and protecting the little kid.

They don't really give style points in football. The Pack won a hard-fought game against a fierce division rival, and it wasn't really that close. It was a good win, their D played much better than the previous week, and they have an all-world QB.

They most certainly could get near the Superbowl.

Is it just me, or are the vast majority of the Thursday Night Football games absolute snoozefests?

Sleep would have been preferable, that one gave me indigestion.

So, the Packers get overhyped at the end of last season when it was becoming pretty obvious that their defense sucked and now they get written off after 2 games? They're certainly not the class of the league but they're still good, and by the time the second half of the season rolls around I can see them being a lot better.

Despite your pretty lop-sided analysis, it's obvious that the Packer defense has a lot more talented players this year than last year. Yeah, Cutler was miserable and the Packers wouldn't enjoy that kind of success against many other teams, but as compared to last year, their defensive secondary and pass rush are looking much improved. By the end of the season I'll wager the Packers will be the #2 or #3 team in the NFC behind SF.

I try not to be lop-sided and am not for or against either team. I thought I was equally if not more critical of the Bears, as they deserved much censure. What I saw was a dreadful team meeting a better (not great) team, and then the better team not doing more with the opportunities afforded them. In my book that does not make them a good team, just better than dreadful.

It is always difficult to determine whether a team has improved, especially when their opponent is encountering dysfunction on both sides of the ball. I will say it often that Cutler was the best player on the Pack D last night. As far as more talented players this year than last, it seemed to me that it was the same talented players making the plays - ie Mathews, Raji, Woodson, Williams - who were the new ones the Pack added that stood out?

A recent CHFF article pointed out that Rogers has the 2nd lowest rating for comeback victories in the 4th Quarter (in NFL history) - suggesting that he plays well with a lead, but not so well in adversity. Last night he struggled to get any lead other than the ones gifted by the Bears or his special teams. That stat and yesterday's underachieving Packer offensive performance provides little support for your projection of them being the #2 or #3 in the NFC.

Cant believe this is the same GB team which had Matt Flynn throw 6 tds over 500yds and 0 ints

I have never seen a challenge on an uncalled foul. You could call Holding on every pay by someone, yet no one challenges and it is never done.

Since when can you challenge an uncalled foul by the refs?

Referring to 12 men on the field? That one is challengeable because it's so black and white.
