Forte is a beast but I'd rather use all those resources and get Jared Allen.

Either player will cost us a fortune. I just don't see BB doing it, but i'd smile alot if he signed either/both

Exactly my point.

It seems to me that since NBC has its name all over the PFT 'brand' now, that the site is way more about simply compiling information that is relevant to NFL football. As you said, most of it has already been reported from other outlets first, and that's fine in my opinion. The majority of news outlets do the exact same thing.

What PFT does is take all of their sources and combine their stories and facts, (sometimes there is still speculation about where a guy may end up etc) so that the viewer can see what guys like Adam Schefter, Rappoport, Peter King etc already broke first.

I don't see too many times where they go too far off the beaten path, and that's really all that Incarcerated Bob ever seems to do.

Its was funny watching the PFT twitter feed during the first few days of free agency. You would see a beat writer throw out an idea with no real factual basis, just giving an opinion. Then 10min later PFT would run with it and create a story out of it. Just look at the the Danny Amendola situation. Zo tweeted that he saw him in a bar in Boston, then PFT runs with it and says he is meeting with the Pats. They seem to report anything from any source without checking it out for themselves.

Does Allen fit in a 3-4?

Yes, he's one of the most athletic DEs in the league. He could probably play OLB better than 95% of OLBs now. And even if he couldn't just switch to a permanent 4-3, Allen is the type of player you build a defense around.

Yeah, but I think the hype, as crazy as it is, is a product of what people want.

Who would say that a Twitter rumor from a guy with less than a 30% success rate would result in a thread of almost 10 pages after just 2 hours.

IMO, it won't pan out, it's hard to believe we'll just throw away a 2nd and a 3rd round pick just one year after drafting them. Plus, I think if we make an effort like this, it should be on the defensive side.

But I have to admit that I'd like to see Forte with a New England jersey, he's one of my favorite players and he has carried their offense almost since he was drafted (and playing with one of the worst OL out there). We could have a RB for years since... I don't know, Curtis Martin?

As I said, I don't view PFT as any kind of NFL journalism bible; but I don't see as many instances where they tend to run with things anymore than the average reporting authority. Since they are in cahoots with just about any and every reporting authority out there such as Peter King, Schefter, Lomabardi, etc they have a lot more sources available to them now.

The first few days of FA was not anything different than I ever remember it. They reported about teams that may be interested, and guys that may be available--after all, it was the most exciting time of the off-season. I did not personally see any instances of blatently making things up, like IB and many others seem to do.

As far as the Amendola story goes, you are not remembering the facts correctly.

It was Tom Curran who broke the story. As many of us said, all PFT seems to do is report what was already reported. They may tell us that "Curran's thinking might have some merit," as Florio put it, but that's about as far as they seem to go.

The only time that I saw any kind of major speculation was during the labor negotiations, when Florio would give his lawyer's take on what could happen down the road.

When people talking about a rumor "burning up" it usually implies that LOTS of people are talking about it. And most people would actually post several of the links to the actual Tweets themselves.

Yet, the reality is that this RUMOR isn't burning up anything.... There is no smoke. There isn't even a flicker from a wet match..

To be honest pherein, I would definitely assume that it's nothing but BS, at least at this point. We don't have the slightest shred of evidence that really points to the contrary.

Now if the rumor catches some fire tomorrow, and an actual reputable source talks about it (Like DaBruinz said, Peter King, Adam Schefter, Mike Lombardi, etc) as if there's a possibility, then we can start to actually wonder.

As of now, it's just some goofball who hasn't earned anyone's respect. As of last week or the week before, his latest comments were about how NE was one of 2 major players for Mike Wallace.

At this point we have past patterns to go on, the fact that Belichick doesn't seem to overpay at the position and runs a RBBC system here. We have the fact that there were 2 high picks in the draft spent last year, and they really haven't even had a chance to prove themselves yet. And we have the fact that as long as Brady's here, the primary attack will be via the passing game; meaning common sense would point to not choosing a guy like Matt Forte, simply due to the fact that he probably wouldn't be utilized enough to warrant that kind of compensation + a super high contract.

Anything's possible, and this is all just my humble opinion of course, but I am not buying into it until we at least hear differently. Incarcerated Bob just doesn't have enough credibility. On top of that common sense would point to the deal not even being considered.

Others may feel differently of course.
