I hope the Voller lovers see that as much as i like Voller his play NO WAY near Solder's when it comes on to playing Tackle. Solder is one of the better BB picks in recent years. Solder reminds me of Jonathan Hogden that Great Tackle the Ravens had for years a guy who really Dominates. Solder coud extend Brady's playing time for another 5 years.

When healthy, Vollmer is a better tackle than Solder.

That said, I expect Solder to benefit mightily from an offseason of strength & conditioning and blossom into one of the top 5 tackles in the league.

Vollmer was a 2nd team all-pro when healthy, if I'm not mistaken.

Vollmer has proven a lot more, and has been just as versatile. (Note: I am NOT discrediting Solder, but you are greatly discrediting Vollmer.)

With Vollmer, Mankins, Cannon, and Solder, the Pats have the workings of their O-line for the next 5 years.. And it should be a very good one.. If they add Ben Jones or Peter Konz to that, OMG..

No question Solder is an absolute beast and has been very very good this year. Vollmer though is also a beast and as others point out he is more proven. Personally I like when they are both out there in the 3TE set or goal line. Of course Dante Scarnecchia deserves a lot of credit for getting these guys ready to play and protect our franchise, especially given the injuries we've had and the guys we've needed to step up.

We should let Solder develop before we get his HOF jacket ready. Right now, he's the team's #3 OT, and that's for a good reason. When all are healthy, both Light and Vollmer are better players. One of the main reasons the Patriots running game has stalled relatively speaking, for example, is because Solder is such a significant downgrade to Vollmer in the running game at this point in his career.

Never heard of any of these guys

That means Tom would be able to play until he's 40 like he wants to

While I agree about letting Solder develop before we get his HOF jacket ready (btw, only you referenced the HOF), I have to disagree that he's one of the main reason's the Pats running game has "stalled". In fact, I would say that the injuries at CENTER are a bigger reason since, until this year, Koppen was the one calling out the protections. Calls that are now having to be made by Brady.

I disagree that Solder is a "significant downgrade" from Vollmer in the running game. A downgrade, yes. Significant, no..

Jonathan Hogden and Voller, eh?

I'd put Solder on the very short list of people who weigh 320+ lbs and are skinny.

Solder has played a crucial role for the Pats this season. And to think there were so many 'experts' here freaking out about the pick on draft day...

Vollmer doesn't sport much of an OL belly either. OTOH, looking at Solder next to GRONK, it's hard to believe that Solder weighs 50 pounds more.

Heck, Marcus Cannon has never looked like he's 340+.

We're blessed with two fine young OTs. I'm not obsessed with who's better. That said, word up is that Vollmer is better at following orders.

Not a chance Jack. Solder/Vollmer is no contest on the right side, yes even if Vollmer is healthy. Solder is the better tackle period. He's proved it. I actually cringed when I heard Vollmer came back to practice this week, I am hoping beyond hope that BB doesn't replace Solder with Vollmer against those Denver edge rushers. Please BB don't do it.

I am not discrediting Vollmer, he's solid, but Solder is better especially in protection.

Dumervil and Von Miller are small quick speed rushers and we need Solder's athletism to counter that speed, not the slower Vollmer. Please BB, please stick with the better tackle in Nate Solder.

ON the flip side, Solder is the much better pass protector, hands down, especially against speed guys like Dumervil/Miller. Nate's quickness, foot work and agility are what this team needs over there. Against those guys in Denver, he had a tremendous game, please BB don't change that up.

In our passing based offense, I take the protection on the right side vs the occasional hole for a 5 yard gain any day.

Really hoping Solder keeps that starting RT job through the playoffs.

BB has been rebuilding this team on the fly... some bytch, but it starts in the trenches..

With his footwork Solder's future is at LT when Light retires. He has the tools to negate the elite speed rushers that always gave Light problems. Now we just need to draft the C of the future and get him to Scarnecchia U to develop.
