Disturbing stats for Brady

I'd say that one of the reasons TFB isn't his best is the O line. Losing Kopen has hurt Brady. Having a rookie and Mankins not their best has also hurt him. Only the two TEs and Welker are able to get open often. Branch has his good moments. Ocho is just taking up space on the field. Get get rid of Connelly, Ocho, and Edelman. Get some deep threat WRs in there and get a few big O line guys and Brady will probably get better.

Not having Koppen under center has definitely thrown him off for some reason.

But think about that line of thought PP - Brady had 4 INTs last year; the RBs had little to no fumbles that I can recall. Did Brady hurt the team more than the RBs last year? God, no. His 4 INTs was an unprecedented event.

I concur that Brady has not been himself of late, but to say he's the reason we have 3 losses instead of 1 or 2? No, I would rather put it that he's the reason we have 5 wins instead of 3. This defense started off historically god-awful and is just now getting out of the dreadful category as it makes strides; so any disappointment on its current record needs to be directed to that side of the ball.

Just look at all the teams with comparable defenses - they're all flat out terrible. Colts have 0 wins; Dolphins have 1, Rams have 2, Broncos have 2, Panthers have 2, Vikings have 2, Cardinals have 2. These teams all have very similarly performing defenses - yet, in a similar class, the Chargers are 4-5 and the Pats are 5-3 - why? They have good QBs.

Whether or not he is the reason behind our losses is not going to be easily settled because there are many other factors including the play of our defense and the decision behind the plays called. However, the turnovers that are coming from him, whether his fault or of the receivers, are one too many, and is injurious to us, especially considering the narrow margin by which we have lost so far this year.

I have to put a lot of blame on B. B. for those stats. Picking up Ocho Stinco was a huge mistake. His stats are abysmal. At this point I would rather try T.O. or even Moss than have Stinco on the roster. Somebody... anybody. In the 2012 draft, WR should be the first thing addressed.

It'd help a ton if Brady could hit Ocho when he actually gets open...

Brady sucks. We didn't have this problem when Bledsoe or Cassel were here

Maybe we can hoodwink the Rats into trading for "Twilight" Brady in an even swap for "Ceiling Unlimited!!!!" Sanchez....

They wouldn't take two first round picks for Sanchez, theres even a thread about it. You think they'd trade for the lowly Brady!?

.......It then behooves the coaching staff to take the ball out of his hands more and give it to one or more of the five RBs we have on this team, none of who (ironically) have turned the ball over once, this season.

Been yelling about this for awhile. Agree completely. Last year's Jet playoff game was a prime example. The run was there all game long yet the Pats kept forcing the pass game. Ever since Tom Brady became Peyton Brady the Patriots have developed a "we're going to impose our will on you" mentality with the offense. That's fine....ON CERTAIN DAYS. The key is to know when that mentality ain't gonna fly against that particular opponent and glady take what the D will give you. The Jets have really good to great DB's. The Jets D line is not one of the best in the NFL. Exploit their weaknesses on D with the run/screen game. Bet once the Patriots commit to doing those types of things the short to intermediate pass game will open up. The Patriots O has become far too predictable and good D's are feasting on that predictability.

This team will go just as far as Danny Woodhead takes them

Patriots' Record by Called-pass pct. (2009-2011, including playoffs)

Called Passes --- W-L

Over 60 pct. ..... 11-11
Under 60 pct ..... 18-2

This stat, ironically comes from the Jets ESPN blog.

Wow!! Thanks for the stats.
The media discussion lately has been about whether the coaches on this team are strong enough/secure enough to stand up to BB and challenge him. I've wondered about that dynamic with the Bill O'Brien/Tom Brady relationship for awhile now.

I've wondered about that too.

I have to conclude that a big part of it is Brady being stubborn, not that I can blame him- he is a fierce competitor, but the amount of times that he has audibled out of run plays at the goal line has to be disconcerting, and is probably a clue to why so little run plays get called sometimes.

The JETS coaches are begging us to run the ball... I guess they don't know what Psycho and Co. know... :bricks:

If Brady was audiblizing out of run plays for any reason other than putting his teamates in a better position to make a play, like say because he's stubborn and egotistical as we clearly know from past history..., Bill would bench him. If there is one thing this OL is struggling more with that pass blocking effectively at the moment it is run blocking.

Lots of things dictate whether we run the ball. We are a pass to run team for a reason...that is how we are built and why we run by committee. Brady makes adjustments at the line based on looks and matchups and coverages. He doesn't get to decide who is on the field with him in a myriad of personnel packages. Which is why we have seen headscratching situations like Woodhead and even Edleman stuffed in short yardage situations this season... What unfolds after every snap this season has a lot more to do with whether all 11 guys on the field are executing than which play was called. Execution has been an issue all season, on both sides of the ball and in all 3 phases of the game. Must be Brady's stubborness at work...

In addition to to more than 40% runs the Pats are 18-2, BJGE seems like he plays his best when he gets 20+ carries.

I don't know the stats, but he hasn't been given 20+ carries that many times in his career, but it seems like when he does he averages 5+ypc.

I don't understand the 12 carries per game for him.

I am only going to ask this one simple question- when Brady has passed on more than 60% of the offensive snaps in any given game since 2009, his team has been 11-11. Doesn't that simple fact register with you?

What registers with me is that like many stats it is overly simplistic and over reliance on it is fools play. And that has already been pointed out to you to no avail.

I fully support running the ball more, but can you find a further breakdown showing WHEN those runs were called? Was the game won because of offensive balance or did the Patriots build a lead and run the ball late to kill the clock?

I'm sure you could find similar statistics for most teams, once you have a lead in the 4th, most teams go into clock killing mode.

Not over that long a period.

If it were just four or five games, then it would be foolhardy to try to simplify things or to isolate what the phenomenon is, but this is a period of over two years, in which one fact has been pretty consistent. When you have a sample size that large, it is often safe to presume that the issue very often is simple and fundamental.

Those blind Kool Aid drunks saying Brady is playing better this year than last year are out of their minds.

I don't care how many more yards Brady is passing for this year. If we used yards as a barometer than Cam Newton is better than Tom Brady according to these people.

Yes, but there's a middle ground between the obvious stupidity of "Brady's playing better than last season!" and the obvious stupidity of "Brady's cost the team two games!". Last season was one of the greatest seasons any QB has ever had. It's natural that Brady would suffer a dropoff in play. He's still putting up the second best numbers of any QB in the league, and he's still put the team in position to be 7-1.
