Saints got Greg Romeus, good thing we got Malcolm Williams.

new orleans patriots

They draft romeus

I believe we did draft an OLB.

If you think my point is crap, then explain to me how a star OLB will improve our 14-2 record.

sorry, you misunderstood. I was sniping at the "want an OLB at all costs" brigade, not at you. I did go on to say that I thought your comment was spot on about our more detailed scouting. Just some sarcasm that didn't translate to the written word.

Malcolm Williams TCU. Looks like he caught the Pats eye while they were scouting Marcus Cannon. 5'10 204 lbs. But check out the athleticism - 40 inch vertical, 1.48 10 yard split, and a 10'6 broad jump.

I think we were also looking at Skrine but he got scooped right before the Cannon pick. So Malcolm Williams isn't a bad consolation prize for competition at that slot/nickel corner position.

The Pats don't subscribe to a national scouting service. They have their own grading system. This is why the Pats grades and those of other teams may differ significantly. Rest assured though that the Pats scouts gave these kids grades, BB and co. then looked at the film, and assigned final values before selecting even a 7th round pick. They probably have a ton of priority UDFAs rated as well that we have no idea about. In this labor situation, the UDFAs are in a bad situation though as far as catching on with an NFL club cos they can't be signed.

It was funny watching the Patriots representatives in NY go through Ourlads to get the correct spelling of Ras-I Dowling's name when they put it on the card to give to make their pick. They have their own system and keep everything close to the vest.

Feel free to list all those great pass rushing 3-4 OLBs and 3-4 DEs that are going to be available in free agency this year. I'm sure there will be thousands of them.

Mathias Kiwanunka, Ray Edwards, Manny Lawson, Jarvis Moss, Matt Roth, Bobby Carpenter, Antwan Barnes, Quentin Moses. There's a bunch of guys out there who can be brought in at OLB. Some are starting quality, while others can come in as a backup to help with pass rush. Heck there's even guys like Mike Vrabel and David Bowens out there who might be able to help for a year.

There I listed off some names, most of which have 3-4 experience. Now how about you list off some guys who would have the chance to come in and contribute from day one that were available at pick 73?

I love the people now defending the RB picks. When I was posting about team needs for the draft (OG,OLB,DE,WR,RB) I was told by many a person that I was crazy to have RB on the list, because the 4 lettered one was now the man and Woodhead was there to spell him. Beyond that, all that was needed was a veteran to take a few carries per game to keep the rotation fresh. Now, because the team took a pair of RBs, it's all about how much running back was a need.

At least you're all consistent with the willingness to throw away your integrity in order to defend everything the team does.

RB was obviously a position of need. A quick look at the roster shows three backs who are aging and may not be brought back in Taylor, Morris, and Faulk. So what are they supposed to do in a situation where they can't add depth through free agency? Oh yeah, draft two young backs to bring an infusion of new talent to the team and not have to scramble to fill holes when it does begin. Now they can focus their efforts on looking for depth or a key contributor at OLB, WR, DE, and OL in free agency.

We didn't get Jeff Maehl

This draft is an F- now.

No worries. Sarcasm is something that's easily missed on this board from time to time.

It shouldn't be hard to come up with some excuse as to why a guy still recovering from cancer isn't ready to play in the NFL.

And I would be surprised if Carter beats either Murrell or Moore or any free agent they sign, for a spot, unless the Pats decide they just want to keep the younger guy. Nothing about this guy shouts out NFL caliber player. Just my opinion.

See I look at Murrell and Moore as end of the roster players. Murrell is a STer who can also play OLB, but he wasn't very impressive. Moore, while showing some pass rushing moves, never did anything with STL and was signed from the USFL. So with that scenario, if Carter shows raw potential, then I'd definitely rather keep him at the end of the roster than one of the vets who may have already topped out. Especially when, going back to your earlier point, other teams have a tendency to grabbing up young players the Pats cut.

Damn, cry some more.

I wouldn't expect you to understand sarcasm, Maehl was projected to be a late round pick at best. This is the same level of intelligence that bashed anyone who wanted Maroney gone.

Kiwanuka: 23.5 sacks in 5 years
Lawson: 14.5 sacks in 5 years
Moss: 4.5 sacks in 4 years
Roth: 20 sacks in 6 years
Edwards: plays in a 4-3
Carpenter: 3.5 sacks in 5 years
Barnes: 9.5 sacks in 4 years
Moses: 3.5 sacks in 4 years

That list does not answer my question. Well, it does, but it answers it in a way that makes my point. There's not much out there if you're looking to pressure the QB with a 3-4 OLB. That is why you look to the draft. Even if you take a guy who needs a year to develop, you haven't lost anything because, based upon their career history, the alternatives weren't going to get the job done.

Keep spinning. It's fun to read.

I've checked several sites for the skinny on Malcomb Williams.

Does anyone some old milk cartons with his picture and info written on it?

Here is an amazing stat. More whine was produced in the last 3 days on this board than has been produced in Italy in the last 3 years.
