To be honest, this years draft is driving me a little nuts. By now I would have settled on a couple of 1st round picks or advocate moving down. But right now I can seem to settle on "the guy" that we should take.

So I'm asking should the Patriots be bold this year and trade way up to #5 if Von Miller, Bowers or Darius are still there? It would take both 17,28 and 92. We would still have #33 to trade down and pick up another 2nd rounder or 3rd rounder and maybe a 7th.

Is this the year that BB make the bold move?

OK let me have it, I won't hold a grudge.

Assuming it wouldnt cost too much I'd be all for moving forward and grabbing Dareus.

Yes to trade up. No to top 5.

There's no Suh this year. There's no Sean Taylor, and there's no Julius Peppers. Yes, *they* (I don't play or coach for the Pats) should trade up, but there's no one this year worth going into the top five for. Move up a handful of spots for Watt, but that's it.

How much is too much?

If a rookie cap had been implemented, I'd be all for trading as high as possible. Since those specifics haven't been ironed out or taken place yet, I think it's just too much of a risk to give someone that kind of money (top 5-6). Even going into the top 10 is risky, especially from a salary standpoint.

I'd advocate going into the top 12-13 though, for sure!! It likely wouldn't even cost 'that' much, considering what they hold overall. I myself, just have a hunch that BB isn't even all that high on any of the prospects that will likely be at 17, but of course that is just a stupid hunch, and means nothing. I guess we'll see if he ends up taking a OL, RB, or trading down a few notches.

If that happens, I just hope that we do get either Wilkerson or Heyward, if that means trading up from 28 to 22-24 or so--then it's almost a need, IMO.

I'm certainly guilty of using the term 'we' all too much. Then again, 'we're' part of the fanbase, which keeps this whole thing running

I'm on this train. 10-12 range.

Yup.

Ditto.

Watt or Bust, baby.

I'm not big on Dareus at all. Bowers doesn't fit our scheme. And Fairley and Quinn are too risky both on and off the field. Julius Jones, IMO, has gotten too much credit for what he's done in shorts. He's a good WR prospect, but not worth trading up for. So who does that leave?

My target would be Miller at 6 => 17 & 28 would do it.

After that, maybe Green or Peterson in the 8-9 range. And Jordan or Watt at 11.

Rotoworld just reported that there are new reports that Elway is leaning towards trading away the #2 spot in the draft.

If they keep the spot its said that they will draft Von Miller

I don't think this draft is worthy of moving up that high unless the rookie pay scale changes

There is nothing "bold" about Trading Up, in my view.

And I consider that labeling it as "bold" is a transparent attempt to "sell" the idea, couched under the guise of an objective question.

It takes FAR more courage to Trade DOWN.

It takes even MORE courage to Trade BACK.

Coach Bill isn't merely Brilliant...he's incredibly BRAVE.

Of course, that was clear when he cut Terry Glenn.

I would say the move to send Milloy out of NE was more of a BRAVE move than Glenn was.

As you said before a wealth of picks is a wealth of assets. Every dynasty ever built has started with a wealth of draft picks. Continue trading down and continue the accumulation of these assets. The Patriots will exist long after Tom Brady is a member of the NFLPA. They must prepare for this transition through continued roster building and continued accumulation of picks. Brady is the best player at the most critical position but the game will eventually pass him by. The band must continue after he is gone. This is true with both players and coaches. The more I observe Belichick, the more I realize he isn't just a coach. He's building a program that will continue long after he is gone. It's not even close, BB is the greatest ever, and I haven't seen someone in any vocation so completely good at their job. That is insane to think about.

To cut off the tangent, program above all else, and the roster side of that is never giving up this advantage.

HARDLY.

When Coach Bill unfathomably cut Lawyer Milloy, he was already a Super Bowl Champion, his future secure.

When he cut GLENN lose, he only had FAILURE on his resume, and was struggling with a sketchy team who Glenn was allegedly a super vital PART of.

He placed his whole FUTURE on that move.

Comparing those two is RIDICULOUS, to be kind.

And "brave" is an UNCONSCIONABLE word to use to describe the cutting of Lawyer Milloy, who will ALWAYS be part of the heart and soul of this great Team. Again, I'm being KIND.

You're the Man, Brother Jay.

Well said.

It'd be the first time ever that the #2 spot was traded. Has to happen some time right?

Stupid irrelevant fun fact of the night

I don't see it happening.

As far as value, I just can't see Dareus or Bowers being worth 17 plus Heyward or Wilkerson. I presume that we could one of these for 33 plus 92.

With regard to MILLER, he could very well be worth the three picks. He is the OLB we've been seeking for years. Could he be the one top addition the defense needs? Perhaps, but I don't think that Belichick would take this sort of risk.
