Jet Fan Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

It's amazing this thread is still here.

It's also amazing that the guy spends his entire offseason working his a** off trying to get back on the field in time for the season, and there are many who have already turned on him. He was viewed fairly heroically by most on this board, and then some idiot comes out with a rumor (just days after the season ends), and there's a high percentage of people in this thread who are already talking about the fact Welker's a bum and they should move him. He's always been a hard working guy and has never given fans a reason to think otherwise. He had a few drops this year, but the fact he performed as good considering the significance of his injury is still amazing all things considered.

Man...it's sad...just sad. Although this has always been a pattern...but it still doesn't mean I'll ever understand it. We haven't had too many free agent receivers come here and perform well in this system. We've actually got a pretty good one in Welker, so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him just yet. :explative
I find it so ironic that basically the same people that were sick and tired of the Jets lack of character, 'antics', trash talk and disrespect of the Patriots have now turn on the team and are trashing Belichick, Brady, Welker and whoever else they feel like.
I often wonder how representative of the fan base this board is, but this week, when the 'fans' who didnt get the SB win they feel they have an entitlement to, turn against the best of the best in the league just to help them get over thier own butt hurt, I feel embarrassed to be a part of it.

There is actually discussion on this board where people say they looked into Brady's eyes and knew he didn't care about the game.
I don't know why ot has to be this way.

Don't forget Moss and Mankins.

Personally, I wouldn't be heartbroken if Welker left, but it's nothing against the guy and it's not a new sentiment. I just wonder what he'll command on his next contract, I worry that when he loses 'it' it's going to go quickly, and I think that we have a decently adequate replacement already on the roster. I by no means want the guy gone, though.

I hear you Myles, but I'd rather have him play out his final year (which obviously he'd be playing for a new deal so you know he'd be at his best) than move him, unless they can get a 1st or 2nd for him. At that point (especially a 1st) you'd obviously have to entertain it. But otherwise I don't yet believe Edelman has the necessary self confidence to do what Welker does. Good possession receivers are tough to come by, and they still need a taller faster one on the outside that can run good routes. Basically what they need is what Branch was back when he was younger - but maybe a little taller this time. But if you lose Welker, that's an iffy group coming into next season, and then you'll have Brady trying to force every throw to Gronkowski and Hernandez if those other guys can't get open.

What are you implying?
Welker is judged as Welker, who also happens to be one of the hardest working, biggest effort guys in the league. If this were someone else they would be judge by who they are.
I'm not sure what you think is being overlooked. Other than a poor choice of comments, what do you think Welker has done wrong that is being 'overlooked'? And of course, the comments werent overlooked either because he was disciplined.

I think you're reading more into my statement than is there, because what I meant is pretty much exactly what you just said. Because he's a hard worker and a team player, fans give him the benefit of the doubt where they might not give other players the same. He's earned that, and he deserves it, and I definitely don't agree that fans are being overly hard on him right now. They're being far less hard on him than they would on other guys in the same situation, because we all respect him as much as we do.

I definitely agree that a WR corps - Welker without major upgrades is a recipe for disaster going into next season. Even with Welker, I think that a significant upgrade is necessary; we need another outside threat opposite Branch. If they were going to trade away Welker, which I don't believe that they will, they would have to use the cash that they were freeing up to improve outside, on the premise that the downgrade from Welker to Edelman is less severe than the downgrade from whoever they brought in to Tate.

Then again, I never would have guessed that they would trade Seymour without even trying to replace him, and that's pretty much what they did. So nothing would really surprise me, this offseason.

I've been considering a Welker-less offense basically since the end of the regular season. It's not that obscure of an idea to get rid of Welker while his value is high and to bring in a bigger, faster player who is still a good route runner. That's the kind of player that would've been helpful against the Jets, but what's funny is that I was thinking that before the Jets game.

How many people predicted the Seymour trade? Just sayin'

mark my words. there is ZERO chance welker is traded. this entire thread is a joke.

I vote to close this thread down. its based on total speculation from a certified moron. to even give thought to this makes me nauseous.

:yeahthat: And some of the responses. Really? I thought I'd seen everything on this board but apparently not. I swear it's the flouride in the water but maybe it's just the fantasy team mentality, I don't know but between Brady's eyes and his body language and the "let's trade him" threads it's going to be one LONG-*** offseason.

(I'm still trying to understand why we're still discussing this bogus rumor....)

I'm gonna bite my tongue lest a mod get mad at me... Because we can??

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

Trade Brady

If you get that started up again, Ian and the mods may put out a hit on you.

The past tense of tweet is twa t.

Re: Credible Twitter source: Pats to shop Welker

If they could somehow trade Welker and acquire someone like Larry Fitz, that would absolutely be worth it

Is there any credible source that says Larry Fitzgerald is going to be traded? Or that those sort of talks are imminent? I've seen nothing, and everyone on every sports thread seems to think Fitzgerald is coming to their city.

Brady was sick and looked like he did not sleep a wink.

Brady was sick and looked like he did not sleep a wink.

Actually, that's all hindsight. Brady doesn't reveal his emotions, he's a stoic.

Unfortunately, Rex was looking right into his feet and sensed there was a problem. No other coach would have been so attuned.

Wes Welker is a dogfaker.
