Some light reading as we get ready to watch our beloved Pats play the clowns in green. It was October 2021 when my son and I at the last minute decided to catch a flight north to watch the Pats play the butt fumblers. Things were looking good; we had this rookie quarterback that was possibly going to the be the future of the franchise for the next decade (we all know how that turned out) and the Pats had already handed it to the jersey jets earlier in the season. The flight, the weather the ride down to Foxboro from Logan International was all perfect. As we checked into the Hilton at the stadium, I told my son this is going to be a great weekend. It’s just one of those things you can feel.
We decided to stroll around Friday evening and at the Pro Shop we noticed a crew was setting up chairs for some event. I asked a guy what was going on and he told me that tomorrow Richard Seymour was being inducted in the Pats Hall of Fame. How did I fail to know this was going on? But again, it’s a great weekend. Saturday rolls around and I throw on my Bruschi jersey and we head to the pro shop. My son decides he wants to buy a throwback Bruschi jersey instead of a Mac Jones jersey (another great decision). As the crowds build players are getting bombarded by fans wanting photos and signed memorabilia. My son tries several times to get to Bruschi with his new jersey but can never get to him to autograph it, I could tell he was disappointed. So the ceremony is starting and we get a spot along the red carpet the players are walking out to the stage, and I get so many high fives from former players, makes you appreciate the size of some of these guys. The weekend keeps rolling in the right direction.
The induction ceremony was awesome and a little sad as Tracy Sormanti who had passed was the first female inducted into the hall of fame. There were more than 100 former cheerleaders that came to the ceremony for her, and they were dressed to the 9s. It was then that my son informed me he was moving to Boston
After the ceremony was over some players hung by the stage. As Bruschi was heading off the stage some fans were trying to get his autograph, but he seemed in a hurry and didn’t linger as I was telling my son to run over there and see if he could get that jersey signed. It looked like another miss chance as I thought he was going to head into the pro shop where other former players went which was closed to the public. But he didn’t go in he kept walking past the door and started to walk around the corner by himself. I told my son go!!!! And he said sheepishly “Na, I don’t want to bother him”. I said rather loudly $%@& that! These guys made a living off our money. I grabbed his marker and jersey and took off running. I caught up to Bruschi and said excuse me, but could you please sign my son’s jersey. He looked at me and seemed slightly irritated then saw the big “54” on my chest and said, “walk with me.” I got the signed jersey for my kid! This weekend is on fire!
Later that night my son calls his mom and tell her of my heroic deed and that no Christmas gift could top this, that is a one-of-a-kind item. He still reminds her of it to this day….icing on the cake
Sunday rolls around the weather is perfect and the Pats unload a 54 burger on the Jestering fools! Total domination from start to finish. The perfect ending to a perfect weekend. I will always remember this game as my favorite! Every time the Pats play the green slime the jersey is mentioned I smile and my wife smirks…simply perfect! Go Pats!!!!
The son did manage to walk behind and snag this photo.
