Brady, in the MVP race?

Saw something interesting on the NFL Network just now. Instead of posting a thread about it, I figured I'd resurrect this one. Anyway, I guess Manning is completely out of the MVP race as of right now. This is how NFL Network has them lined up (in no particular order)...

1. Clay Matthews
2. Tom ******' Brady
3. Matt Ryan
4. Dog Killer
5. Philip Rivers
6. Aaron Rodgers

The plot thickens. Rod Woodson still likes Philip Rivers and thinks that the Chargers will win the West. Says he's getting it done without his All-Pro TE and Vincent Jackson. Jamie Dukes mentions Brady by name as who he thinks should win it first, but then goes off explaining why Matt Ryan should legitimately be considered. Dukes says his home record as a starter is a big deal.

Woodson fires back saying that Ryan has struggled on the road while the other guys have all played well on the road. Manning isn't even mentioned once. I guess that's something that happens when you throw 7 picks in your last two outings.

I'd like to see Rivers numbers from when they started winning as opposed to early when they were losing and he was flinging it up late against prevent defenses to try and catch up in games. My strong impression is that his yardage numbers have returned to Earth since the team improved, which is something you need to take into account and makes yardage numbers a poor criterion.

This shouldn't be a race. It should be Brady's to keep or to lose.

If the Patriots go 14-2 or 13-3 and win the East, how could Brady not be the MVP. All year they talked about how our Defense stinks blah blah blah, and how our Offense was going to fall apart without Moss Blah Blah Blah, IT DIDN't - BOOM.
-According to the "experts", Brady has nothing around him (I disagree), but if they are going to take that stance then Brady has to be the MVP if the team keeps winning.

To be fair, Rivers' splits suggest that his performance hasn't tailed off in wins. He still belongs in the MVP discussion. That said, Brady is the MVP right now as far as I'm concerned.

It's true, Rivers was forced to throw more to catch up, but he's still 9th in the league in attempts. No team that beat the Chargers had a strong enough lead to go into prevent.

I just find it very funny. Last season Drew Brees and Philip Rivers tore up the league, were significantly better than Manning statistically, and their teams won only one less game than the Colts...and Peyton won MVP!

This season, Brady leads the league in passer rating, touchdowns and his team has the best record in the NFL. All that with the 31st ranked defense. If it were Manning in this situation, people wouldn't even be dreaming about considering other player for the award.

considering last few mvps havent won the SB , i wouldnt mind if brady doesnt win it frankly.

Interesting factoid from WEEI. The Patriots are #1 in scoring, despite being last in the league in possessions per game.

So that either goes against the media's idea that this is a "dink and dunk" offense that can't get a quick strike.

It also shows a little bit that our defense doesn't get off the field quickly enough. Hopefully that is corrected against the Jets.

After Vick's game last night, Tom Brady (105.8) is now the highest rated QB in the NFL this season.

Brady haters still saying Manning is better..

Tom Brady dumping the ball off 3 yards while having all day to pass and a reliable running game with a bunch of fast agile guys that would excel so strongly in a short-receiving game vs a more all-out passing offense like the Colts sure is "hard".

It's a fact that fast agile guys like Welker and Branch excel in primarily short passing games rather than as deep threats, which they were wrongly used for on other teams. You can NOT deny that they aren't dominant playing those types of roles, not typical WR roles. The entire Patriots offense is built around the very short passing game, and all Brady has to do is dump it off.

Plus, you absolutely cannot argue that Brady's line is not infinitely better than Peyton's and that there is actually a threat of a run game, like it or not.

Greatest QB of all time has 4 League MVPs, and that guy is Peyton Manning. How many MVPs does Brady have that don't truly belong to Randy Moss?

-Brady's OL is better than Peyton's
-Brady's run game is more reliable than Peyton's
-Patriots offense relies primarily on the short passing game
-Welker and Branch are cut out for roles in the short passing game
-Belichick and Payton know how to fit players into their schemes properly
-Belichick is a better coach than Caldwell by FAR

Brady has moved way ahead of everyone in the MVP stakes after opponent performances this week. He'd have to play like an invalid for the final 5 games to rule himself out of accepting number 2.

Manning will be the MVP or Rivers.Brady wont be in the mold unfortunatly.

Manning is making god-awful decisions and has noticeably lost some zip on his throws. That's the third straight game he ruins for the Colts.

When Brady had ridiculous weapons in 06 he still fared better.

Brady haters still saying Manning is better..

I love how they are complaining about the weapons around Manning when they discounted the Brady supporters saying the same thing when Reche Caldwell was his best WR and Manning had Clark, Wayne, and Harrison and Edgerrine James running the ball.

So, if Manning is great when he has receivers who grasp the system, and not so great when he has receivers who don't, is he a .... system quarterback?

with what happened to the chargers today, the mvp race is over

brady won

a dog killer won't get votes

Matt Cassel is quietly entering the picture as an MVP candidate, while Manning and Rivers struggled today.

How.....

Chiefs are leading their division (8-4) while the Chargers and Colts are even at 6-6.

23.... number of TDs by both Tom Brady and Matt Cassel; Drew Brees leads with 25 TDs, but has 14 INTs.

4..... number of INTs thrown by both Tom Brady and Matt Cassel.

Granted...

This is just the tip of the iceberg for Cassel who, by the pure definition, is a darkhorse candidate for MVP.

Also...

Keep an eye on Arian Foster who IS the offense for the Texans this season, who are right behind the Jags for first in their division.

As well as...

Peyton Hillis is put the Browns on his back and carried them to victories over teams that they had no business contending with.

You've grown on me the past 2 weeks Pessimistic Pete. Who would have thought.
