Okay I'll put it out there: Mankins for Haynesworth

It's probably been said a million times in the thread but he doesn't want any part of a 34 defence. Still, London Fletchers comments about Haynesworth are less than flattering and paints a picture that is very much the opposite of what Belichick and NE tend to look for.

exactly...i would rather have London Fletcher for Mankins than that usless POS Fat Albert Haynesworth.

Yeah, let's trade for a guy that doesn't want to play in a 3-4. Seriously, why do these ideas keep coming up? And no, the Pats aren't switching to a 3-4 or else the drafting of Spikes would be pointless.

Please stop the insanity.

The main reason I don't want Haynesworth isn't because he doesn't fit the Patriots scheme its because I just can't be a fan of a guy like that. The other "malcontents" we've brought on to this team were unhappy because their teams were terrible and they wanted to win. This guy is sitting on a team that is looking pretty good on paper going into the season but is just refusing to play because he "doesn't like the 34 system". Sounds like an excuse to me. He got paid and doesn't seem to be interested in football anymore.

This team's front office has apparently fallen so far that it can't even handle good guys like Mankins. Haynesworth would burn Gillette to the ground and urinate on the ashes.

Geez, Deus, that is a needless shot at management, the kind we are getting to the point of expecting from you....change your sig as you haven't had a sip for a long time now.

Should they pay Mankins the 8MM with the kind of up front money that would make him a "good guy" again?

I sure do agree that Haynesworth would crash and burn everything around here.

Nothing "needless" about it, since it's the use of a comparison. If the team couldn't handle Mankins, how's it supposed to handle Haynesworth? Would you feel better if I threw Thomas in there?

Sheesh!

The last thing the Patriots need is a fat, lazy, malcontent who gets more money than god. I wouldn't trade the jets 1st round pick for him.

Sheesh!

Comparing the handling of Mankins to the possible handling of Haynesworth doesn't work for me........Mankins is talented but evidently a very dumb cowboy as I just don't see how this will work out for him in the long run. I do not see how the Patriots could deal with a dumb cowboy and a dumber agent.

Haynesworth at least got paid......but certainly would never fit here.

And what are you basing your claim of "very dumb cowboy" on? He scored a 25 on the Wonderlic, so that's not the basis for your claim. Please tell me it's not based upon the recent events. That would mean that you're evaluating him solely on the basis of your emotional response to an issue that you have no opposing data on.

That would make you, not Mankins, the "very dumb cowboy".

I guess we won't know until things play and pay out - however, it just seems to me that the chances for Mankins to come out ahead in all of this is slim.

How does he end up in the long run making up for the 7MM deal he did not take? Does he sit out until week 10 so he can be free and then play for 800M and then possibly face no pay in 2011 if there is a lockout?

But, even if you wont go along with anything I wrote, you have to agree that it was really stupid to insult the owner of the franchise??

Please tell me how he can possibly get out of the corner that either he or his agent painted him into?

1.) Why would I agree that it's stupid for him to insult the owner? If the owner did what is alleged, Mankins might have taken a kinder approach than he should have.

2.) Contract with another team = problem solved.
UFA after this season = problem solved.

People are acting as if Mankins is screwed. That's simply not the case. Having passed on the 'high' tender, he's now in the driver's seat.

We'll see Deus - I think he screwed the pooch.

It is never good business to bite the hand that feeds......

His next contract is going to have to be large enough to make up for his losses playing this year at 1.54.....good luck.

I really think passing on the 35MM bird in the hand, given all of the uncertainty of possible injury, possible lockout, possibly not getting the deal he thinks he can get was dumb.

Goodnight......nice talking as always!

Time will tell.

I don't want that guy within 150 feet of a Patriot contract. Wouldn't trade Zac Robinson for him.

And I don't even know if the Redskins need more OL.

The 33MM bird in the hand, as you call it, is just rumor and speculation, and it's useless speculation without both verification and the contractual details.

Fixed that for you. You apparently don't get superior logic. If Kraft did what Mankins claimed he did, broke a promise to offer him a long term deal this season, he deserved to have his character impuned. Of course we do know at the very least that wasn't the case thanks to his agent, but whatever... We don't know the specific terms of the he was offered because two local papers merely got their information on the existence of an offer and it's parameters from league sources, and you know how DI feels about anonymous sources - unless they are close to Brady in which case speculation based on whatever they reportedly claimed is perfectly legitimate. Get with the program, buddy.

Ahhh your right -- DOINK -- what was I thinking, debating with D/I makes one dizzy!!

As he said, Logan is in the drivers seat now, and not the other way around. Logan is in control here, unless of course he gets injured, or there is a lockout, or other teams do not end up paying him enough to make up for what he will cost himself this year by not taking the deal NE offered him or even the tender he did not sign.
