if belichick did this, espn would be up in arms, pulling their hair out and have a month long expose on how awful a person bb is and signal the demise of the pats franchise. it would last 'til the draft. with ryan, they try to sweep it under the rug. if they are forced to comment on it it's just rex being rex and now the jets have their swaggerlicious on.

In fairness to Sexy Rexy, I think that fine is BS. He was at a non-NFL event and was harrassed by Dolphin fans. It wasn't like he did it on the field during a game.

Being in the NFL is like being in the military. If you get in trouble, it not only reflects badly on yourself but also your organization.

It's all about public relations.

And, besides, how old is Rex? He should know better...but then again he's not exactly the model of self-restraint (see Rex's epic gut)

We are talking a $50k fine though. Players get away with worse crap like beating their wives or girlfriends if the charges are dropped.

If the charges are dropped. As in many cases of domestic abuse, there are no witnesses and no charges pressed. There for the supposed guilty party remains not guilty.

Rex's little obscene gesture was witnessed by a bunch of people and was caught on a cell phone camera.
