I just watched him trash Pioli and KC for taking Jackson over Curry.

I think it just goes to show how little Diaper Jr. knows about the Patriots way.

He is completely out of touch with the concept of drafting the BPA for your scheme as opposed to drafting the BPA.

He's forgetting how the Pats built their dynasty. If your going to pay someone it may as well be a DL who you can build your team around. Jackson's a perfect fit there next to Dorsey

Mel needs to talk about prospects and quit rating team picks, he is the absolute worst at understanding teams schemes.

It was really great watching Key come damn near to smacking him. What a ***.

Can I rip him for taking Jackson over Raji? I don't get that one.

What's your beef? I think it has something to do with them playing together for a couple years, and they might use Dorsey at the nose.

Curry excelled at the college level. Jackson....... didn't. Arguing that Kiper's blown it here is just silly. His job is to evaluate the players as best he can. It's not as if he was wrong in his analysis. Pioli obviously thinks Jackson will be better at the pro level than at the college level, while Kiper and many, many others, aren't sold on that notion.

Curry ias clearly a 4-3 OLB and even Keyhorn could see it.

It doesn't matter that Curry is the best player on Diaper's board. He is not a 3-4 defender.

It's like when the Pats drafted Ken Sims. He was clearly a 4-3 DT and not suited to plat D line in a 3-4.
Bad fits = bad results.

Jackson is clearly the only 3-4 DE available in this draft and that is what made him so valuable to 3-4 teams.

The fact that Diaper Jr. could not see that shows how out of touch he is with understanding how players fit in schemes.

Well, Dorsey's more suited for DE....but really, which is harder to find, a dominant nose tackle or a very good defensive end. There's about 1 of the former and 3 of the latter in each draft.

There were many, many people who thought Curry would be fine in the 3-4. Hell, coaches were open about it.

But are you surprised that Pioli took Tyson Jackson over Raji?

When I look back, the Pats took Seymour in 2001 over a few guys that could had made for good/great nosetackles (i.e. Casey Hampton, Shaun Rodgers or Marcus Stroud). Then in 2003, they drafted Ty Warren and addressed nosetackle with Ethan Kelly. Fortunately the Bears wanted to move Ted Washington prior to the season and the Pats took him to the bank.

Maybe I'm alone (but I'm willing to learn) in thinking that NT isn't a very skillful position. Not to say that anyone can play it, but the minimum requirements aren't as rare as a 6'4" - 6'6", 280-295 with long arms and the versatility to take on a tackle and engage both the run and pass effectively.

I love having Wilfork because he does his job by holding two O-linemen at bay and also being able to make a big play on occasion. Could he be replaced? Probably easier to replace him than a Richard Seymour, no?

I don't think so. In order to be a two-gap NT, you have to have remarkable strength and a good amount of athleticism. I think Wilfork would be much harder to replace.

I think Pioli did a great job. Though i'm not sold on Jackson being the next Sey, they now have a pretty good D-Line, with the addition of Magee and Jackson to complement Dorsey.

Are you kidding? What a tool he is. They now have two top 5 DL, drafted another DE in the 3rd, and got a starting QB. Their whole DL should be set (if Dorsey can play NT). :ugh: God Kiper is an idiot.
