He has seen all kinds of PLAYOFF QUALITY D's before. The learning curve for him will be the playbook not the Defenses. He makes the team better....and you cant take the cap room with you......Would you rather see him, Lynch or Seau??? No contest!
Jeff Garcia is 38, he will be 39 next year.Obviously u didnt see Garcia's first game with tampa bay.If this guy was here, i am sure the mood all around would be jumpy, especially Moss.Moss knows that Garcia can get him the ball and knows his credentials. He sees Cassel and all he does is bite his tongue.
Seau over Garcia, hahaha, give me what u smoking.
You most certainly can take the cap room with you. Teams including this one have done that regularly for years now. Our cap this year was several million higher than the preset league cap because we selectively rolled unused cap forward into future seasons via LTBE incentives impossible to meet.
When did he ever see a playoff quality AFC D? He's spent his entire career in the CFL or NFC at a time when neither was all that competitive relative to the AFC.
What this team doesnt need is Matt Cassel "managing" the game.We will take the occasional TD and the 2 FG and hope that the defense can hold opponents under 20 points each time, yawn!!!
The number of posters with 2007 and 2008 join dates who are pissing and moaning is telling, I think.
Hey I have been one to suggest a DOB instead of "join date". I turned 42 yesterday(happy b day to me!)and I have to try and have conversations/arguements with people who arent as old as my underwear. Some of us old guys just get to internet websites a little later than others. Respect your elders!

When the 'elders' start acting with wisdom and patience rather than emotion and silliness, I'll begin respecting them. And, for the record, you're not that much older than I am.
Respect is something you should give to everyone and its theirs to lose! "Earning" respect is for children.
I dont post emotionally, and I am very balanced in my knowledge/expectations...alot more than some others. We can have patience with Cassel AND obtain Garcia...its not an either/or question.
Competition brings out the best in competitors, we should NOT be "acceptable"" with bad performances just because the guy hasnt played much.
He has cashed his checks for 4 years so its time to put out! We dont have to baby his psychi, he most likely wont be here next year either way! Not a perfect analogy but Favre/Pennington=Garcia/Cassel.
Garcia right now is a vet leader QB available for "relatively" cheap. His cap number wont interfere with the signing of anyone, he is the insurance we need to not waste a whole season without a proven backup QB(boy that sounds familiar--from about a month ago). As Garcia learns the playbook the fire is LIT under Cassel and its Cassel's job to lose. If he loses it, he likely wouldnt have done well in the playoffs anyways!! If he keeps Garcia on the bench, I would still gladly pay a 3rd rd pick for the insurance and motivation Garcia should bring to the team. We have alot of vets on this team that dont want to lose a year just because Brady goes down and would appreciate the FO going after a guy like this...and positive player aquisition always is important in the ultra competitive area of FA recruiting.
Me, I like Garcia but I would not piss away a pick on the has been. He's fragile. He's ancient. He can't beat out less than mediocre starters. He got tooled by the Giants.
This is football not fantasy baseball where money and trades are infinite. Guys cost a valuable draft pick, a pick tthat can effect a FOOTBALL franchise for years. There's a cap. I want to see big fat Wilfork extended or some other many years benefit purchased with cap dollars, not a fragile stopgap that won't get it done anyway in the long run.
Garcia may have problems for a few games. The question is whether the patriots have a better chance to get into the playoffs, get deep into the playoffs and win the SB with Garcia as QB instead of Cassel.

Where did you ever get this notion? Respect is always to be earned, and never to be just given.
My point is right here because you never say "I earned respect", its always "lost respect"...you can earn NEW-found respect, thats different.
Jeff, let's not get into the specifics of your posts. They aren't relevant to my point.
You ITEMIZE your points them tell me mine arent important??
Really? Should we boo 6 year old children when they strike out or fail in other sports? When a rookie is making his first start in a pro league, should his own fanbase ride him mercilessly the moment he makes any sort of mistake?
Why would YOU compare Cassel to a 6 yr old child?? He gets PAID TO PLAY A GAME, criticism comes with it!
What does any of this have to do with a bunch of bandwagon fans who've signed up here in the past 2 seasons?
