Just thought I'd throw some red meat out to the pack.
This thread should be entertaining.
I can understand Hobson and Jackson ( even though Jackson is a bust).....but Cassel? In this one instance, I can say that Belichick is not doing what is best for the team, because of the time invested in the player. Cassel is horrible, and should be cut to make room for someone who will do something for this team.
Like Webster or Wendell? I don't think either one of them is much more valuable.
Eckel maybe, but I think they let him go because they won't carry more than 5 RBs, and they wanted to give Kyle a chance to latch on with someone else.
Makes sense to have 3 QBs for Thursday night, after all, we don't need to cut a QB until after that game and before Saturday (3 QBs obviously not including TFB who I expect to not play), so no reason to cut any of the 3 until we let them play 1 more game.
Your right...... I just cannot fathom how they could keep Cassel ( even though you layed the answer out for me).
I think he is putrid.
Well someone needs to play against the Giants, can't afford to get Gutierrez hurt.
Plus he can use the snaps as an audition for the arena league teams .
They have one more shot at getting hurt so they can avoid being cut...joking of course!
It should be clear to all long time fans by this point that BB obviously doesn't know what he's doing.
Right. He needs to just cut himself. And that Pioli guy.
I don't think it's any surprise they've survived the first cuts. Cassels been here a while now, clearly the staff must think he has something about him so he's going to be a decision that requires a little more thought.
However, it wasn't much of a cut-down, numberswise. Did anyone here think the 3 cut were going to be on the opening day roster? They are just saving most people for Friday's game. I still say Cassel & Hobson are going. Jackson, I'm not so sure. He's received a lot of playing time in the preseason, and which of the other receivers (after Moss, Welker & Gaffney) has outplayed him? Especially if Welker is a little dinged, Jackson may stick.
How can they keep Cassel ?
Cassel will start on Thursday night and play most of the game.
He will leave the game late in the fourth quarter with the score
49 to 0 Giants. On Saturday BB will cut Gutierrez and keep Cassel
because Cassel has more experience.
Even if all three were to get cut, I never expected any of them being cut in the first cutdown. I still think two of the three should survive the second cutdown.
No doubt about it. We gotta get rid of Kraft and Belichick. I miss Orthwein and McPherson. Now THAT was an Owner-Coach combination that should satisfy all the folks complaining about BB keeping Cassel, Bryant, etc.
I miss Victor Kiam and Zeke Mowatt.
This post's brilliance is in it's simplicity, fact laden simplicity. Nice work.
Why would Matt Cassel be cut? Did anyone see the last meaningful game he played as a high school senior in 1999? Good stuff.
Oh hey... :horn:
It's honestly only a matter of time before Cassel gets cuts
Jimke,I think You are having a flashback from too many Schaeffer Beers in The 1970's ! :singing:
Too bad you can't IR players for incompetence. All three would be there right now.
Sure, Belichick and Pioli never make mistakes, so anyone criticizing any player on the roster has to be a jerk.
I'm just wondering do you folks still think Doug Gabriel, Donald Hayes, Monty Beisel, and Duane Starks are good or at least decent players? If you don't, when did you change your mind, the day Belichick cut them from the team?
Cut Cassell now he gets picked up by the jets and gives them the playbook , before they cut him next week. Cut him next week and they have to sign him to the roster.
Besides, if Gutierrez or O'Connel gets injured against the Giants, Cassel is the best option for 3rd QB.
Regarding Jackson - suppose the unthinkable happens. No, not brady, the *other* unthinkable - a serious injury to Moss. Who becomes the #1 receiver? Welker? We don't have a good slot receiver to replace him. Gaffney? OK, but then you need to backfill the 3rd receiver position with either Jackson, Washington, Jones, or Aiken. Maybe a Slater or Ventrone follout the #5 spot.
Face it - Jackson is going no where. We all may as well support him in not only his bid to make the team, but to leverage his athletic talent and lock down the the #4 or #5 receiver / KR role.
Furthermore, if he's even partially succesfull at his from our perspective (i.e. , what we can see when we watch the game), do not be surprised when he lines up to Brady's far left if Moss has to come out of the game.
if anyone honestly thinks Jackson is getting cut....
One of the biggest uphill battles Chad faces still is his inability to backup Moss... Someone else here suggested the number of reps he got in pre season was indicative of his having a place on the roster. Funny how that doesn't work for Cassel. Jackson hasn't shown up in practice or on the field by all accounts until the tail end of the last game against somebody elses's scrubs. (Not to mention not at all in the return game unless you count the night he did almost as good as Troy Brown on the worst night of his career....) Ditto for Gutierrez... Yet they are favored by many here to be roster locks...
Cassell could have been a mercy cut today ... I was hoping he would be.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
Haven't you noticed that
he always gets us into FG position during the first half?
