Patriots + Gronkowski = Divided

According to Adam Schefter he is making the decision based on the opponent and the Pats' record. Schefter could be wrong.

If I wasn't posting on an iPhone, I would provide a link to the story

Gronkowski's inner circle would like to ensure that Gronkowsi is fully recovered from his five surgeries in the past year -- four on his forearm, one on his back in June -- before the tight end plays again, according to sources. Their belief is that the Patriots are 3-0 without him, they're playing a non-conference game Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons, and there's no need to rush Gronkowski back until the doctors are fully convinced it's OK for him to return.

Per @AdamSchefter, Gronk & Amendola did not make the trip to Atlanta for tomorrow's game against the Falcons.

They'll be Inactive

To the rooks out there, that's vet talk for "they will NOT play"

1) Because Brady hasn't had 5 surgeries in the past 7 months.

2) The new WR's need to develop chemistry with Brady

3) Obviously, YOU put alot of confidence into Dr. Gill. As has been provided in this thread, many others - - including players, their doctors and the players union - - have a far different opinion of Dr. Gill and the Patriots medical staff. At some point, one's track record in life becomes paramount - - it's time to pull the plug on this Dr. Gill.

4) Gronkowski, who is no softy, doesn't feel like he is ready.

I'm sorry, but the GLORY of winning this week 4 game against a non-conference team is not worth the risks of playing Gronkowski if he doesn't feel mentally or physically ready.

I never said anything about trusting the team doctors. The doctor that should medically clear gronk should more than likely be the one that performed the surgery, the team doctor should come 2nd. If gronk is medically cleared, he should at least try a few snaps. It's like shooting a bow and sometimes a string snaps or malfunctions on a bow. It will scare you and make you not want to shoot, because of the fear of something malfunctions again. You just have to conquer that fear and show yourself nothing will happen. Gronk is probably afraid of getting re injured in the injured area. I Don't blame him. But right now we have to wait and see if these reports are true and if he travels.

FWIW, IF and that's a huge IF, we win without Gronk and Amendola, I think it says something big about this team.

:)

You will lose a lot of money if you bet against Schefter's reports.

Right, because Schefter is clearly one of Gronk's closest buddies, and hangs out with him at the local strip club, so he must know Gronk well enough to enlighten us on how he thinks.

All i want is to see this guy on the field at this point

Thanks. And this was also posted in the report (not on the iPhone anymore):

Gronkowski has gone through the past two weeks of practice running around, catching touchdown passes and practicing like he would play, even taking hits and getting tackled during practice, according to sources. Those who have watched him the past two weeks insist Gronkowski looks like he's absolutely ready to play -- and are baffled why he has not yet appeared in a game this season. Patriots players have been waiting and wondering what the holdup is.

But it goes beyond the Patriots' decision and to Gronkowski's circle of family, friends and advisers, who have not been as anxious as the rest of New England to have the tight end back on the field, even though he caught about 15 passes in practice as recently as Thursday, according to sources. It sets up a mystery for which only Gronkowski's inner circle would appear to have the answer.

I believe Hernandez was also rushed back.

What weight is Gronk lifting now, that is what I would like to know ?

Oct 20 against the Jets is when both he and Danny need to be ready by.

Family unity. At least we can rejoice in that the Gronkowskis are not poles apart here

Schefter isn't 100% his reports, but he is probably closer to that number than almost any other reporter. There are few people as plugged in as him. He could be wrong this time, but I would never bet against one of his reports.

Well, the rookies will have to step up......

BTW, my 90% sure that Gronk would play this game was just a tiny bit off. Good thing I am not a professional gambler.

I wouldn't bet against schefter, he usually has his stuff together. It seems like the rookies will have a huge test, it will be a miracle if the pats win tomorrow.

The rookies have a big test tomorrow, but I wouldn't say it would be a miracle if the Pats win tomorrow. This is arguably the worst defense the Pats will have faced thus far this year and at least one of the rookies will draw a rookie CB (and the other starting CB is banged up in Asante Samuel).

Maybe if the Falcons were at full strength, it would be a miracle for the Pats to win. But the Falcons are just as banged up as the Pats are. Their starting LT may be out and they are moving their RT to LT to cover for him. Roddy White is so injured that he isn't much more than a decoy. They don't have Stephen Jackson. They will be missing several key players on defense.

I still give the Pats a decent shot of winning. But obviously not as much without Gronk. I wouldn't bet on the Pats winning and it is going to be tough to win, but I think they can leave Atlanta with a W.

Now you got some optimism in me but man idk. I think without 3 key red zone targets (amendola, gronk and vereen) it might be hard to add Tds instead of FG's. I think that's the one thing holding this offense back, red zone success.

Yeah, even without Gronk and Danny, these two are evenly matched at the moment. The Pats would be favored if it were up here, so it would be hardly miraculous if NE takes them down tomorrow night.

With the weaken d-line and LBing corp of the Falcons, the Pats might run more in the red zone. I think people are too quick to blame McDaniels for the offensive woes, but one gripe the McDaniels haters have that is legitimate is the lack of running plays in the red zone thus far this year. I think if they run Ridley more in x and goal situations, the Pats would be more successful.
