Re: Undrafted Free Agent Signings

Fred from Dartmouth: If the reported signings of UDFA's so far are true, get ready to start another thread. We drafted Cannon and I was so happy to get the "big tub of goo from TCU" because Logan Mankins is our best O Lineman and what does Ngata do to him every time he plays him? Other teams are adding Suh, Fairley, Darius and we invite in a 303 lb. lineman, a WR/KR. This has got to get better. So far these guys look like with 3 or 4 years of experience they could be sub-jags.

I know people are going to say "well look what Bill's done over the past 10 years." It would be so much easier for me if I wasn't old enough to have seen all the great teams go in the toilet, and it almost always started from a draft standpoint. Green Bay Packers, 49ers, Steelers, and as good as Shula was he couldn't get the complementary pieces around Marino throughout his whole career.

I die a little inside every time BB or Tom Brady are interviewed and it starts off with "you guys are the best, you're geniuses," because after a period of time, being human, we start to believe it. I remember growing up and seeing parents tell their kids that they were losers. They'd take a perfectly good human being and destroy them, and unfortunately, the opposite is true.

I'm still holding out hope for tomorrow, but if we did take the 17th pick in the draft and spend it on a kid that's going to take a year to get ready, then he signed a 3 year contract, And if Ras-I Dowling gets hurt the run on single edge razor blades will be unbelievable. I was hoping that Bill would pick up some UDFA's with potential and first and second round draft picks that were starters. I hope I'm totally wrong about all of it but even mighty Rome fell.

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Signings

Undersized but an excellent athlete...was a top recruit who never reached his potential because of a series of mostly minor injuries.

Size also isn't everything coming out of college. Trent Cole was 6'2/236 in 2005 and is now 6-3/270 and a pass rushing demon.

He'll have time to grow on the PS.

So the Pats are losing their touch because, in the first night of UDFA agreements, before they can even sign anyone, they haven't reached an agremeent with an UDFA olineman who is big enough for your liking? Bearing in mind that they just drafted the very monster interior lineman that you're looking for earlier this offseason, plus a first-round tackle?

Why are people now quoting Fred From Dartmouth?

I think this graphic explains it perfectly:

Wes Bunting from National Football Post had Tarpinian ranked ahead of Herzlich as one of the 5 UDFA OLB to grab. Tarpinian was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Nebraska as a HS option QB. He runs a 4.56 and is a converted S. Suggests he has some coverage skills. Always seemed to be hurt. Made it back for Iowa's Bowl game to start at OLB.

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Signings

Any word on Blaine Sumner or Tim Barnes?

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Signings

Herzlich going to NY

Mark Herzlich

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Signings

Herzlich going to NY

I'd thought that's where he'd end up. Herzlich isn't a 3-4 OLB and the Giants like big 4-3 OLBs that plus the BC connection. I think the NYG is his best place to suceed so I'm glad they have him. If he ever gets his speed back he's a Pro Bowler.

Re: Undrafted Free Agent Signings

Jeff Maehl to the Texans. Bummer. I think he's going to have an NFL career.
